A crime expert has dismissed investigations into searching for Madeleine McCann as a waste of time and money, claiming the missing child was never abducted.
Investigative criminal profiler and author of Profile of the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann Pat Brown told news.com.au that she believes Scotland Yard botched the investigation and they’ll never be able to find her alive.
“Madeleine is dead,” Ms Brown said.
“There’s no point spending all of this money as nothing they do is going to make that child alive.”
Her theory, developed during her profiling of the case, is that Madeleine suffered an accidental death that was “covered up”.
“When I analysed [Madeleine’s] case, it led me to believe evidence does not support an abduction.
“An abduction was extremely unlikely based on the amount of time, evidence at the scene, and every other shred of evidence there has ever been.”
“The evidence supports the theory of an accident occurring through neglect and possible medication,” she said.
“It’s my belief the body was moved to a desolate location and will never be found.”
Last week, British police were granted GBP 85,000 ($136,935) to extend their search for Madeleine by an extra six months – which takes the total amount over the last 10 years to GBP 11.1 million ($17.9 million).
Ms Brown criticised the amount spent on this specific case.
“There are other children missing in the UK who aren’t getting this attention that the money should have been spent on,” she said.
This new theory on Madeleine’s disappearance is one of many that have emerged over the years.
One such speculation is that Madeleine was abducted and sold into a child sex ring, but Ms Brown brands this theory as “extremely unlikely”.
“They’re not going to steal a British tourist from a holiday resort because they know that will prompt a major investigation into them.”
Last month, Kate and Gerry McCann lost their appeal in Portugal’s Supreme Court over former detective Goncalo Amaral’s controversial book which makes the same claims as Ms Brown.
The pair has lodged a complaint against the ruling and may be taking the case to European Court of Human Rights.
The heartbreaking 10th anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance is the 3rd of May this year.
