The Prince and Princess of Wales had no idea their decision not to move into the Royal Lodge would spark an all-out fraternal war that makes William and Harry’s look like a tea party!

With King Charles desperately trying to oust a stubborn Prince Andrew from the 30-room mansion, insiders confirm their younger brother Edward has put his hat in the ring to take command of the estate.

ROYAL LODGE BATTLE

“It’s a complete disaster that appears to be getting more complicated the longer it’s dragged out,” says a palace insider.

“Andrew wants it for Beatrice and Eugenie while Edward and Sophie make a compelling financial case in terms of the work that needs to be done.

“But more serious is the matter of the King’s wishes, and he wants it for Camilla. Charles is deeply worried about the Queen being cast aside in the event of his death. And as sad as it is, the entire palace has been preparing for that, even before his diagnosis. So it’s become a huge priority.”

The King’s first reported attempts at evicting Andrew was shortly before ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York, revealed her cancer diagnosis in August 2023. No doubt prioritising her wellbeing, Charles agreed to allow the Yorks to remain at the Lodge while she recovered.

However, since then, Charles has had his own shock diagnosis to face. And his priorities have completely changed. “William will inherit control of everything. And even though their relationship is much stronger these days, Charles still worries about Camilla’s future when he’s gone,” adds the insider.

“He wants her to be comfortably set up for life in Windsor.”

ANDREW MUST GO!

Edward and Sophie look sad over Royal Lodge battle, perhaps?
Prince Edward “wants it to stay in his family until the lease is up”. (Image: Getty)

However, Prince Andrew is not going down without a fight. “He still has a 75-year lease he signed with the Queen and argues that ever since Bertie and Elizabeth in the ’30s, it’s been the family home of the York duchy,” says an insider.

“He wants it to stay in his family until that lease is up in 2078. One problem though, he’s not exactly been a good tenant, has he? He’s got absolutely no way of finding the money to pay for the extremely urgent repairs that had he taken care of, he wouldn’t be facing eviction.”

Royal commentator Hugo Vickers is also in support of Andrew downgrading. “I’m sorry the Queen died before she sorted him out, which she could have done,” he tells The Sun

“She could have bought him a house somewhere where he would be safe and out of the way and this sort of issue would not be coming up.”

Unlike Andrew, Prince Edward and Sophie have been extremely frugal with their fortune, which is why they’ve reportedly stepped forward as the new caretakers of the historic estate.

“Sophie and Edward are serious contenders to take this project on and do an excellent job,” adds the insider.

“They’ve completely thrown a spanner into an already difficult situation, which is why Charles has had to come clean on his somewhat unpopular plan to house Camilla.

“Needless to say, all hell’s broken loose. And if it’s not sorted out soon, there is a push for William to step in and take back the Lodge, just to settle what’s becoming a very uncomfortable fraternal war.”

Kylie Minogue confirms her Australian tour! Here’s everything you need to know https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/kylie-minogue-australian-tour/ Wed, 17 Jul 2024 06:10:32 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=1252750 Shivers and butterflies.

The post Kylie Minogue confirms her Australian tour! Here’s everything you need to know appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Rumours of an Australian tour have been circulating since Kylie Minogue was announced as the headline act for the (cancelled) Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay.

Now Kylie has not only addressed the rumour, she’s confirmed that an Australian tour is a go! Albeit, somewhat accidentally.

“I’m on cloud nine,” Kylie told the audience in Hyde Park. (Image: Getty)

On The Fox’s Melbourne breakfast show on Monday, the Aussie pop star was asked about touring in Australia. Host Brendan Fevola asked, “Are you gonna tour in Australia?”

Hesitating for a moment, Kylie responded, “I wanna say yes. Yes, the answer is yes! We’re just locking down details.

“Maybe I wasn’t meant to say that, but yes,” she added.

While she revealed that it is in the works, the singer did not reveal any further details about the upcoming tour.

THE YEAR OF KYLIE MINOGUE

The interview came off the back of Kylie’s knock-out headline performance at the British Summer Time festival in London’s Hyde Park.

Dubbed, “a glorious celebration of pop perfection”, Kylie delivered a mesmerising performance in a red vinyl jumpsuit to a hyped-up crowd.

Things have been going so well for Kylie lately. Earlier this year, she was named one of TIME magazine’s most influential people. And she took home a global icon award at the BRITs.

The Can’t Get You Out Of My Head singer hasn’t toured her home country since her 2019 Golden tour. But she has released two studio albums and completed a Las Vegas residency.

Kylie was honoured with her first Grammy in 20 years for ‘Best Pop Dance Recording’ award for her hit song Padam Padam. (Image: Getty)

In particular, Kylie’s recent release of her album Tension has been met with great acclaim. The album’s hit single Padam Padam earned the Australian icon her first Grammy in 20 years for ‘Best Pop Dance Recording’.

And seemingly, the star who never sleeps, Kylie also reportedly signed a huge deal with streaming giant Netflix to release a documentary about her long-standing career.

The 56-year-old will allegedly film the documentary in late 2024, and it will be an exclusive fly-on-the-wall account of her incredible life story.

There’s so much Kylie to look forward to! Head to Ticketek now and sign up for the Kylie Minogue Australian tour waitlist. Doing so will ensure you won’t miss out on securing your coveted ticket!

I’ll be honest, I love double denim but have always found it such a tricky trend to navigate. Mainly because it can make me feel a little masculine and always manages to give me Justine Timberlake in the early 2000s vibes, but not in a good way!

But whether we like it or not, this dynamic duo pairing is back in a big way in 2024, and we’ve uncovered some celebrity-inspired looks that will have your doubling down on your denim looks right away.

Blazer sharp

Cate Blanchett always manages to tweak a trend to suit her style, and this blazer and wide leg jeans combo is no exception.

The white shirt and sneakers tie the pairing together while breaking up the denim on denim effect.

King Charles spotted wearing a new accessory with a heart-warming nod to Princess Charlotte https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/royals/king-charles-proud-grandfather/ Wed, 17 Jul 2024 04:55:08 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=1252701 Also, the King might be a ‘Swiftie’.

The post King Charles spotted wearing a new accessory with a heart-warming nod to Princess Charlotte appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
King Charles stepped into the role he’d been preparing for his entire life in 2022 after the tragic passing of his mother Queen Elizabeth.

Known for his environmental advocacy, charitable endeavours and dedication to public service, King Charles has proven himself a capable and compassionate leader, not even letting a cancer diagnosis slow him down.

However, beyond his royal duties, there’s another side to Charles that the public rarely sees – his role as devoted grandfather.

King Charles is a proud grandfather to five young royals: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. His affection for them runs deep and is expressed in the way he speaks about them and the moments they share together.

And in this case, it’s even evident in the way the King accessorises himself. On his trip to Guernsey along with Queen Camilla, the monarch was spotted wearing a yellow-and-red string friendship bracelet.

Princess Charlotte recently attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour with her dad and brother George where friendship bracelets are truly KING! (Image: Getty)

It’s very similar to the one his grandaughter and ‘Swiftie”-in-training Princess Charlotte was wearing at Wimbledon

Charles often talks about the joy his grandchildren bring into his life. He delights in their milestones from their first steps to their budding personalities. And despite the demands of his position, he prioritises spending quality time with them.

He’s also great with Camilla’s five grandkids. “My grandchildren absolutely adore him,” she has revealed. “He reads Harry Potter and he can do all the different voices – I think children really appreciate that.”

Here we look at some of the King’s most heart-warming “Grandpa” moments.

(Image: Getty)

01

The birth of Prince Louis 2018

The then-Prince embraced the joyous news of Louis’ birth, showing off a softer side.

In a statement made on Tuesday, April 24 2018, King Charles spoke on behalf of himself and his wife Camilla, saying: “We are both so pleased at the news.

“It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them,” he jested.

(Image: Getty)

02

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022

After two hours of watching a pageant pass by in the street below the stands where he was sitting with his family, young Prince Louis, only just four, couldn’t sit still a moment longer. He wriggled in his seat, pulled faces and didn’t mind his mum Catherine, Princess of Wales when she tried to get him to behave.

When Louis spotted his grandfather, the then Prince Charles, that was it. The little royal popped himself up on Grandpa’s knee. And Charles immediately sprung into action, bouncing him up and down and rocking him from side-to-side to the music from the parade. The monarch also pointed to what was happening, keeping young Louis occupied and happy.

03

The birth of Prince George 2013

Charles and Camilla were in Yorkshire on an official visit when daughter-in-law Kate gave birth to George on 22 July 2013. They flew by helicopter to London, where a full police escort rushed them to St Mary’s Hospital to meet the new heir to the throne.

They stayed for only 10 minutes before returning to Yorkshire to continue their engagements. The next day, Charles admitted to members of the public he met that he had cracked open the bubbly the night before and was “thrilled and overjoyed” about becoming a grandfather for the first time.

Of Prince George’s birth, Camilla said, “It’s a wonderfully uplifting moment for the country. ” She then added that Charles would make a “wonderful grandfather. He’s very good with children.”

04

The birth of Princess Charlotte 2015

Following Charlotte’s birth in 2015, Charles was again beaming with happiness. He vowed to “spoil her, absolutely”.

William admitted his father was “positively obsessed” with the new princess. “As the father of sons, it was something he was missing.”

The proud grandpa told members of the public on one engagement that “Charlotte is simply gorgeous, a beautiful child.” He added that, “She already sleeps through the night and is much easier on Mum than George.”

05

Meeting Lilibet 2022

With Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex living in the US with their children, it’s often difficult for King Charles to see them in person.

However, it was revealed that when the Sussexes and their two children Archie who was three at the time and Lilibet who was only one, jetted over to the UK for the Queen’s 2022 Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Charles was “very emotional” when he met his youngest grandchild for the first time.

Speaking at the briefing of Clarence House’s annual review, a senior royal source said: “It was fantastic to see them. It was wonderful to have them back in Britain. The Prince and the Duchess were absolutely thrilled to see them.

“[He] hasn’t seen his grandson Archie for a bit of time and so it was very, very, very special to have some time with him.

“He hadn’t met Lili, his granddaughter, and so to meet her was very emotional, a very, very wonderful thing.”

Australia’s Barb and Laurie Smith talk life as an Olympic volunteer https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/olympic-volunteer/ Tue, 16 Jul 2024 12:04:37 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=1252607 They've attended every Olympics since 1968!

The post Australia’s Barb and Laurie Smith talk life as an Olympic volunteer appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
It’s a safe assumption to say that Port Macquarie, NSW, couple Barb and Laurie Smith are Olympic volunteer fanatics, with the pair attending every Games for decades bar one.

“We are passionate about the Games as it’s something that can bring the world’s people together,” says Barb.

The couple’s life-long love affair with all sports began in their youth with Laurie a keen swimmer, football, soccer and rugby player. Meanwhile Barb’s passion for athletics and netball provided a common interest for the pair, who have been together for 40 years.

Barb and Laurie have volunteered in the Olympic Village at every Games, except Tokyo since 2000. (Image: Supplied)

REMEMBERING SYDNEY 2000

“I went to the Mexico City Olympics in ’68 as a spectator and I was a young and impressionable 20-year-old who was passionate about sport and seeing the world’s best athletes,” says Laurie.

They met in the early ’80s and, explains Laurie, it didn’t take much to convince his new wife to honeymoon at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.

They attended every Olympics as spectators until Sydney 2000, when they decided to volunteer in the lead-up to and during the Games. Since then Barb and Laurie have volunteered in the Olympic Village at every Games, except for Tokyo in 2021 in the aftermath of the pandemic.

LIFE AS AN OLYMPIC VOLUNTEER

While they’ve loved every Olympics, Sydney 2000 was their favourite. (Image: Supplied)

Olympic volunteers are the lifeblood of the Games and no job is a problem. “It could be as small as getting clean towels for an athlete,” explains Barb, 68.

The Olympics can also be centrestage for protests or participants making life-changing decisions. “They might say they want to defect, but that’s our worst nightmare!” she laughs.

Laurie, 76, witnessed the massacre that killed 12 competitors from Israel and Germany at Munich in 1972 and still remembers the horrors clearly. “It still emotionally affects me because I’m probably one of the few people who’s still alive in the world today who was in the stadium for that ceremony,” says the former professional swimming coach.

But most of their memories are happy ones. Over the years, Barb and Laurie have also gathered a large collection of memorabilia, much of which they’ve given away to schools and groups.

There are perks to being a volunteer – like meeting the Prince and Princess of Wales! (Image: Supplied)

And while they’ve loved every Olympics, they agree Sydney 2000 was hands-down the best they’ve attended. And despite not getting paid for volunteering, the pair say there are definitely perks, like meeting the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, in London in 2012.

“The icing on the cake was that experience,” recalls Barb. “Kate talked to me about their upcoming trip to Australia and how much she was looking forward to it.”

With tasteful interiors and a big beautiful deck overlooking the water, it secures $1200 a night on Airbnb. Sam, 47, has completely refreshed the interior and redid the home’s previous nautical theme, enhancing its charm and style. Perfect for a getaway with friends or the whole family, three bedrooms on the property make for a spacious retreat, sleeping six total.

She has also snapped up a property near her home in Bowral. The $1.3 million 1960s home with three bedrooms has a timber-style kitchen and a “gloriously overgrown garden” and is a 12-minute drive from the home she shares with her husband Richard Lavender.

When Sam has recovered from her recent surgery, she’ll surely be back into the renovations!

Recently renovated, the 1940s cottage is a beautiful bungalow of charm and old-school flair with a record player and built-in speakers throughout the house. With four bedrooms, it’s perfect for families and sleeps up to six people.

You can enjoy treetop views and a short walk to Vincent Street, famously known for Mill Markets and Lake Daylesford. Why not holiday like a supermodel in the countryside of Victoria!

She’s TV’s reigning reno queen having already transformed an amazing 1890s farmhouse in the Greater Blue Mountains and now Edwina, 41, is bravely converting a tired, crumbling 177-year-old building in Carcoar, Central NSW, into a stunning boutique hotel.

Sitting on 100 acres of pristine land in Glen Alice, her first project Warramba is a three-bedroom property surrounded by wildlife and full of warmth and style. Renovated in 2017, the Airbnb’s country charm remains with added modern furnishings and picturesque backdrops of the Blue Mountains. There’s even a mineral pool out back for cooling down in the summer or heating up in the winter.

Meanwhile, Eddy’s hubby Neil Varcoe is masterminding the build of their second property, Saltash Farm, and is living on site until it’s complete, with plans to open in March 2025. With their flair for interiors and love of heritage buildings, we can’t wait!

Karl Stefanovic regularly escapes the grind of breakfast TV with trips up to the Sunshine Coast, and it’s easy to see why Karl and wife Jasmine love it! No doubt Jasmine – who hosted her milestone 40th birthday up there – had a hand in the styling of their holiday home.

The five-bedroom, five-bathroom villa, available to book on Airbnb, sits on top of a cliff overlooking Noosa’s Sunshine Beach. Lovingly called Villa Isabelle, it’s “architecturally designed” and comfortably sleeps 12, making it the perfect beach pad for large groups looking for a luxe seaside location dripping in style and modern interiors.

The inside of the home is spread over three huge levels, designed for entertaining, with views of the golden sands, an open plan kitchen, a large dining and living area and sliding doors allowing for access to the pool and outdoor entertaining areas. We can see Karl, 49, cracking open a case of VB right there!

It’s not over. Not for my part at least,” Gert van der Graaf, ABBA singer Agnetha Faltskog’s boyfriend-turned-stalker declared in 2023 documentary Take A Chance

And in what’s bound to be chilling news for the 74-year-old star, the Dutch warehouse worker has been spotted back in Sweden after he was convicted of harassing her, served with a restraining order in 2000 and again in 2003 and deported back to his native Holland.

“Agnetha must be scared,” commented one fan.

COMING HOME?

According to reports, 58-year-old Gert was recently seen holidaying in the Swedish city of Nykoping and is considering relocating permanently to the country when he retires. “It feels like I’ve come home. I want her [Agnetha] to live her life and feel free. I want to move on with my life too.”

But just last year, Gert revealed of Agnetha, “I miss her. It keeps spinning around in my head. It comes back, again and again. It might be something I can never give up, not until my last breath.

“She said she was glad that I never stopped looking for her. Then I never stop.”

But Agnetha clearly wants him to. She wrote Gert a stern letter in 1999 asking him to no longer contact her and when he didn’t take it well, she became concerned for her safety.

“We’re sitting here holding hands and in love. You can tell,” Gert says. (Image: Supplied)

And she had reason to be worried. On Christmas Eve, 1999, Gert showed up at the singer’s house. “I entered her property with all the security equipment. I know it wasn’t right. But I really wanted to see her. Then the police arrested me saying she feared for her life. I would never want to hurt her,” he says.

But the singer claimed in a statement to the court during Gert’s 2000 trial that her life became “considerably restricted” and she didn’t “dare go outside without being accompanied by a neighbour”.

She also told the trial Gert wrote her over 300 letters from 1997 to 1999, he called one to three times a day and followed her everywhere.

Friends say the ordeal is a big reason the star has largely lived as a recluse in recent years.

STAYING SILENT

“She must be terrified,” said one fan. (Image: Getty)

She’s also remained resolutely tight-lipped about the ordeal. “I don’t know if I can talk about that. I don’t think I will,” says the grandmother-of-four.

Gert has been diagnosed with erotomania, a rare psychotic condition which invokes a belief that someone – usually of a superior standing – is in love with you.

Gert claims he met Agnetha after he wrote a letter to her while he was in hospital after an accident and then she came to visit him.

The forklift driver says Agnetha was the first woman he slept with and describes their relationship as a “fairytale”.

While his story was doubted initially, Agnetha has admitted to dating him. “It was a very intense attention from him and after a while I felt I could not resist any more. I wanted to know him,” she said of her decision to start dating Gert in 1997.

They were together for two years before she called it quits in a decision that Gert allegedly still hasn’t accepted. “I got angry,” he now admits. “I love her very much.”

Clint Eastwood’s daughters are firing shots on social media – and he’s caught in the middle https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/clint-eastwood-family-feud/ Tue, 16 Jul 2024 05:42:47 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=1252553 Eastwood family feud explodes.

Keeping the peace in a large family is never easy. And veteran actor Clint Eastwood is finding that out the hard way after one of his daughters launched a fierce tirade against the family for the world to see.

Clint, who has eight grown children, has been left caught in the middle after his daughter Kathryn, 36, took to social media to attack younger sister Morgan, then former stepmother, Dina.

Clint threatened to cut the girls off if they didn’t make peace. (Image: Getty)

‘EVIL STEPSISTER’

The bitter feud is believed to have broken out after Morgan’s recent wedding at her dad’s Californian ranch. And it was made public when a fuming Kathryn ranted about her “evil stepsister”.

Kathryn posted a smiling photo of her and Morgan, writing, “I had to break up with my sister Morgan after her wedding because she’s so concerned with her reputation, she called me ‘insane’ online for the world to hear.”

Strangely, the outbursts came just weeks after Kathryn gushed about her little sister’s pregnancy news. And a source says their famous father, 94, isn’t putting up with any of the fighting at such a pivotal time for the family.

“Clint shut this drama down in one phone call, threatening to cut them all off if they didn’t make peace,” an insider says of the feud.

“His grandchild has yet to be born. And he doesn’t care about the who or the what or the why – his unborn grandkid is the priority for the family right now.”

Kathryn didn’t hold back with her scathing comments, writing on another post about Morgan, 27, that she was a “shallow, superficial woman” with “zero compassion for others”.

Kathryn isn’t backing down. (Image: Supplied)

GOING AFTER THE FAMILY

Kathryn then came after her six other siblings and former stepmum Dina, sharing an old photo of most of them with their dad Clint alongside the caption, “My siblings are weird and fake, inside and out.”

She made another reference to her family being “fake” when she insisted that they deserved an Oscar for their “performance” at Morgan’s wedding.

The insider says that behind the scenes, Clint has been pushing for a swift resolution to any resentment. “He doesn’t mess around when it comes to family infighting and takes great pains to keep peace among his families,” the source says.

Morgan’s mother Dina, who was married to Clint for 18 years until 2014, also tried to stop the war of words, even threatening legal action against Kathryn if she didn’t take down the hurtful posts.

Kathryn, who is movie star Scott’s younger sister, didn’t back down, sharing Dina’s messages on her Instagram page.

The source adds, “This whole episode has been outrageous for Clint and the rest of the family who were blindsided by it.

“They have a code to never share private messages and this has really crossed the line.”

5 inspiring female Olympians to watch at the Paris 2024 Olympics https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/inspiring-female-olympians/ Tue, 16 Jul 2024 01:18:43 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=1252440 So much girl power.

The post 5 inspiring female Olympians to watch at the Paris 2024 Olympics appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
There has been no shortage of inspiring female Olympians at the Games, past or present. And now, for the first time in Olympic history, the 2024 Paris Games will achieve complete gender parity in competition.

That’s right, the playing field is finally even, with an equal number of male and female athletes going for gold.

To celebrate this historic first, we’ve rounded up five of the most inspirational women to watch at the Paris Games. These fierce females dominate on and off the court, making a difference in the world around us.

Let’s meet the cultural game changers.

INSPIRING FEMALE OLYMPIANS TO WATCH AT THE OLYMPICS

(Image: Getty)

01

Simone Biles – USA, Gymnastics

Simone Biles, with seven Olympic medals (four of them gold), has long been a gymnastic legend. And she’s set to return to the Olympic stage in Paris for one last hurrah. The star gymnast plans to retire after this round.

After taking a mental health break during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Simone, who has the support of Taylor Swift, has been open about the importance of emotional wellbeing.

“For so many years to go through everything that I’ve gone through, put on a front, I’m proud of myself. And I’m happy that I can be a leader for the survivors and bring courage to everybody speaking up. So I’m happy to be a voice for them,” Simone said on Today.

The gymnastic star’s courage to prioritise her health and come back stronger is such an inspiration to women and girls around the world.

02

Emma McKeon – Australia, Swimming

Emma McKeon is the most decorated Australian in Olympic history.

The New South Wales swimmer competed at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 and won big. She took home three relay medals, including gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay alongside Brittany Elmslie, Brone Campbell, and Cate Campbell. She also took home an individual bronze medal in the 200m freestyle.

At Tokyo 2020, Emma went on to win four gold medals, including the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and relay victories in the 4x100m free (including a World Record) and women’s 4x100m medley relay.

As if that weren’t enough, the swimming legend nabbed bronze medals in the 100m butterfly, 4x200m freestyle relay, and 4x100m mixed medley relay taking her medal tally in Japan to seven. That is the most by any female swimmer at a single Olympic Games and the joint-most medals across any sport with Soviet gymnast Maris Gorokhovskaya.

Now the Olympian is retiring in style at the Paris Olympic Games. She said: “Swimming will always be a part of my life and has been for my whole life so far. But this will definitely be my last Olympics, so I’m excited for that.

“Success for me in Paris would be to swim faster than I ever have before.”

03

Sky Brown – Great Britain, Skateboarding

Sky Brown made history by winning bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Games (played in 2021 because COVID) at just 13 years old. Her skateboarding career started at the age of four.

And despite suffering a harrowing training injury few months before the Tokyo Olympics that kept her sidelined – and lucky to be alive – Sky, 16, has made a miraculous comeback.

The skateboarding legend secured qualification for Paris 2024 in Budapest, despite not being as she says “100 per cent”.

“My torn MCL is still not 100 per cent healed, so I can’t go very hard [but] I don’t want to keep it safe for Paris,” the young warrior said.

“Getting back in that bowl, skating with everyone, feeling that fire again… It was the best feeling. Being in the air while are screaming is my favourite thing!”

(Image: Instagram)

04

B-girl Nicka – Lithuania, Breaking

B-girl Nicka recently turned 16. And she’s been credited with putting Lithuania on the global breaking map.

Breaking – a style of street dance – is a new sport introduced in efforts to bring the Olympics to a wider and younger audience. And boy does B-girl Nicka make it look fun!

The breaker, who believes that age is only a number, isn’t scared of facing competitors twice her age.

“In breaking, it doesn’t matter how old you are. I deserve to be here and to compete at this level with all those athletes,” she told Olympics.com in an exclusive interview.

05

The Matildas – Australia, Soccer

Yes, the Matildas are more than one inspirational female – but on the field, they compete as one. And together, Australia’s national women’s soccer team are riding a green and gold wave of support all the way to Paris.

With fierce determination, the team has steadily risen through the ranks to become one of the top contenders in women’s soccer.

Led by Captain Sam Kerr, who unfortunately is nursing an injury and left to cheer on her teammates from the sidelines, the Matildas have overcome numerous challenges on and off the field.

The team is known for fighting for equal pay and better conditions for female athletes.

Coach Tony Gustavsson said, “I know that this team will give everything for the coat of arms and will represent Australia to the best of their ability in the true Aussie way.”

Supporting our carers: Free resources for carers of older Australians https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/carers-of-elderly/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 09:08:46 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519103 Because you need help and support, too.

The post Supporting our carers: Free resources for carers of older Australians appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
When older family members and loved ones can no longer make decisions for themselves, the role of the carer becomes pivotal in their wellbeing and wishes for the future. This is especially true when dealing with diagnoses like dementia and other life-limiting conditions, when decision making can become the sole burden of the carer, adding to their emotional load.

In this way and so many others, carers frequently sacrifice their own needs, both present and future, to their own detriment. Palliative Care Victoria’s Dignified and Respectful Decisions initiative offers a lifeline, providing free resources that empower carers with the tools and knowledge they need to honour their loved ones’ wishes while also taking care of their own wellbeing.

Palliative Care Victoria’s Dignified and Respectful Decisions (DARD) resources are equipping carers with the knowledge and tools to make crucial, respectful and dignified decisions for loved ones who are no longer able to make decisions themselves.

What palliative care services are available? Spotlight on DARD

Palliative Care Victoria’s groundbreaking “Dignified and Respectful Decisions (DARD)” initiative provides free, invaluable resources to help carers navigate complex care decisions on behalf of loved ones who can no longer make decisions for themselves. Funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and the Victorian Government Department of Health, the free resources inform and support families and substitute decision makers.

Image: Getty

Carers can also gain clarity around the various care plans available, understand how to work with aged cared teams and access wellbeing support articles. There’s also a glossary which includes medical terminology, helpful definitions about advance care planning and directives, end-of-life care terms and other relevant information. These free resources also provide support for carers in their own lives, with detailed self-care and wellbeing strategies to ensure they can continue caring while looking after themselves both now and in the future.

Practical advice on carers self-care

Self-care for carers might seem contradictory, but DARD aims to transform the carer’s experience. The initiative’s free resources are designed to help carers anticipate future challenges and implement effective strategies to support them through this often-challenging journey.

One supportive hint involves building a network of trusted family members or close friends who can assist with some of the caregiving tasks. There are also smart strategies available to help think through various immediate and long-term decisions that need to be made.

Another beneficial tactic that DARD sets out, is to set aside some time each week for activities that feed your soul. This could be as simple as meeting a friend for a movie or going for a walk in your favourite park. Importantly, there are resources to help point carers in the right direction should they feel overwhelmed or just need to discuss their situation.

Image: Getty

Collaborative decision making

Carers often find themselves in situations where the values and preferences of their loved ones need to be honoured in the face of complex medical information and choices. It’s in this instance that respectful and considered collaborative decision-making with healthcare professionals is crucial.

DARD’s free resources provide a framework for these essential conversations, ensuring that carers are well-prepared to engage with healthcare teams effectively and respectfully. By leveraging these resources, carers can feel more confident in their discussions with doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers.

They’re empowered to ask pertinent questions, understand the implications of various care options and advocate for the best interests of their loved one. This collaborative approach allows for dignified and respectful decisions, while it helps to lighten the emotional burden carers, as medical decision makers, so often carry.

In a heart-warming moment at Wimbledon, Catherine, Princess of Wales was given a standing ovation as she made her way to Centre Court to watch Carlos Alcaraz’s victory over Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final.

The Princess, 42, looking radiant in purple – one of Wimbledon’s official colours – attended the tournament with her daughter Princess Charlotte, nine, and sister Pippa Middleton, 40.

This marks Kate’s second public appearance since her shock cancer diagnosis in March, following Trooping the Colour where she also received an outpouring of public support.

PRINCESS CATHERINE’S ROYAL DUTY

Princess Catherine has been the patron of the All England Club since 2016. And her ceremonial duties include handing out the winner’s trophies after the singles finals. It’s something the crowds look forward to each year.

Initially, plans were made for the Duchess of Gloucester, who has served as Honorary President of the Lawn Tennis Association for 25 years, to step in if the Princess of Wales was unable to attend due to her ongoing treatment.

However, Buckingham Palace confirmed before the event that Princess Catherine would indeed be in attendance.

Princess Charlotte looked so proud of her mum as she received a standing ovation. (Image: Getty)

And you could tell by Kate’s beaming smile at the event that she was thrilled to be back court-side, honouring the players for their incredible effort.

It was such a lovely moment, watching the Princess make her way down from the stands to the playing surface to present the trophies, the crowd in awe of Catherine’s strength and grace.

On her way, she smiled and shook hands with some of the tournament’s ball kids. She also struck up some friendly chit-chat with both players and clapped for Carlos after giving him the trophy for the second year in a row.

“ENJOY THE WIN”

The Princess told Carlos that he “played so well”. (Image: Getty)

Inside the tournament’s main stadium, Catherine told Carlos, “You played so well. Enjoy the win.”

On seeing Kate at the event in his post-match news conference, Novak said, “It was, of course, a privilege to be in her presence again. I’ve said to her that it is very nice to see her in good health. She seems to be in good health.

“That’s obviously very positive news for everyone in this country, but also for Wimbledon.”

After the event culminated, Princess Catherine shared a beautiful image of herself at Wimbledon, captioned: “Great to be back at @Wimbledon!

“There’s nothing quite like The Championships 🎾

Of course, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ comments blew up with overwhelming positivity for Catherine.

WIMBLEDON WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN THE SAME

It was the perfect mother-daughter day. (Image: Instagram)

Actress Olivia Munn commented: “You’re a champion. 🤍🤍🤍”.

Another commented: “So wonderful to see you looking healthy and beautiful. Welcome back, Princess Catherine and Princess Charlotte!”

And journalist and royal correspondent for Vanity Fair Katie Nicholl said what we all were thinking: “It wouldn’t have been the same without you Your Royal Highness 💜”.

Prince William is usually a regular at Wimbledon finals. However, he missed Sunday as he planned to be in Germany to watch England face Spain in the final of the men’s soccer European Championship. William is the president of the English Football Association.

Here, we take a look back at all Catherine, Princess of Wales’ best Wimbledon moments.

After a long battle with cancer, Shannen Doherty has passed away: This is her journey https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/celebrity-news/shannen-doherty-cancer-battle-78828/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 00:55:11 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/celeb-news/shannen-doherty-cancer-battle-78828 ''The fear was overwhelming...''

The post After a long battle with cancer, Shannen Doherty has passed away: This is her journey appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
In 2015, former 90210 and Charmed actress Shannen Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer with the disease returning in 2020 as Stage IV, metastasizing and spreading to her brain. In July 2024, Shannen sadly lost her battle with cancer.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Shannen’s publicist, Leslie Sloane confirmed the news to People magazine.

“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”

Fans and friends across the globe have shared tributes in their grief, mourning the loss of Shannen around the globe. Below, we take a look back at her health journey.

When Shannen’s cancer returned in 2020, the actress was open about her battle with the ferocious disease and the reality of living with cancer.

Shannon told People magazine that she remained positive after bravely admitting: “I don’t want to die.”

“I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I’m just not done.”

Only recently, Shannen let go of some of her possessions to make things “easier” for her family when she passed.

“My priority at the moment is my mum. I know it’s going to be hard on her if I pass away before her. Because it’s going to be so hard on her, I want other things to be a lot easier,” she said.

“I don’t want her to have a bunch of stuff to deal with. I don’t want her to have four storage units filled with furniture.”

In early 2024, it was revealed her new cancer infusion wasn’t working. Despite doctors suggesting she switch treatments, Shannen wanted to persist with the treatment.

WATCH: Shannen Doherty opens up about her battle with breast cancer. Article continues after video.

“After the sixth or seventh treatment, we really saw it breaking down the blood-brain barrier. Do I call that a miracle? Yeah. For me, that happens to be a miracle right now. That I sort of rolled the dice and said, ‘let’s keep going’,” she shared on her podcast Let’s Be Clear.

Desperate for advancements in treatment options, Shannen hoped “to squeeze out another three to five years” to experience new options to help fight her cancer.

“There’s going to be a lot more options that will give another five years,” she said on her podcast.

Shannen began radiation therapy in January 2023 and posted a video of the process to her Instagram page.

“January 12, the first round of radiation took place,” she wrote on Instagram. “My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life. I am fortunate as I have great doctors like Dr Amin Mirahdi and the amazing techs at Cedar Sinai [Medical Centre].”

“But that fear… The turmoil… the timing of it all… This is what cancer can look like.”

In a follow-up post, shared four days later, she opened up about the terrifying surgery.

“I had a tumor in my head they wanted to remove and also biopsy,” she penned. “I am clearly trying to be brave but I am petrified. The fear was overwhelming to me. Scared of all possible bad outcomes, worried about leaving my mom and how that would impact her. Worried that I would come out of surgery not me anymore. This is what cancer can look like.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar responded to the video, telling Shannen: “You are a warrior.”

Selma Blair – who’s fighting her own battle with multiple sclerosis – commented: “This is a lot. This is a lot to take on, still again. And I am wishing for all the wise peace you have learned to find you in the terror moments. To know we are holding you. Love. All love.”

In October 2021, more than a year after her cancer returned, Shannen encouraged people to get regular check ups and “cut through the fear.”

“For breast cancer awareness month, I’d like to share more of my own personal journey from my first diagnosis to my second,” she wrote on Instagram. “Is it all pretty? NO but it’s truthful and my hope in sharing is that we all become more educated, more familiar with what cancer looks like.

Shannen has been open about her difficult journey.

“I hope I encourage people to get mammograms, to get regular checkups, to cut thru the fear and face whatever might be in front of you. In 2015 I got diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a mastectomy and did chemo and radiation. I had many nose bleeds from the chemo. Not sure if any of you experienced this.

“I also was beyond tired. I cheered myself up by putting on funny pajamas that my friend Kristy gave me. Did they actually cheer me up? Yes!! Lol. I looked ridiculous and in that ridiculousness, I was able to laugh at myself. Finding humor helped get me thru what seemed impossible. I hope we all find humor in the impossible.”

Julie Goodwin tells Woman’s Day she’s “absolutely devastated” after she was told by doctors she may have to sit this season of Dancing With The Stars out after tearing her calf muscle in two places.

“I was in enormous pain when it happened – sweating bullets. It was the kind of pain that you can’t even sort of tell people ‘I’m OK.’ Because I wasn’t OK, I really wasn’t,” says Julie, who injured herself rehearsing for the reality show.

RECIPE FOR DISASTER

“I had to be carried out of the studio, because I couldn’t even put my foot down on the floor. I was rushed straight to the doctor.”

And it wasn’t good news for the celebrity cook.

“The scan showed that it was very, very serious. Two bad tears in my calf muscle. There were tears,” she says.

“When I got that news from the doctor, I thought, well, ‘That’s the end of that, I just felt shattered.’”

Especially as the 53-year-old says she dropped everything for Dancing.

“As soon as I made the commitment, I put everything else aside. I was training five and six and even seven days a week,” says the MasterChef winning cooking queen.

“I ramped up all my exercise. I started training at a whole new gym as well as the gym I already went to. I really was committed to being as fit and strong as I could be because I didn’t want to injure myself.

“I didn’t want to not be able to keep up and I didn’t want to get puffed. I really did everything in my power to get in the kind of physical condition I needed to be in.

“It was months of hard work and then, right at the very last minute, right before I was going to go on and do my first number, this happens.”

After 15 years in TV though, Julie believes in the idea that the show must go on!

NOT GIVING IN

The pain was “unspeakable”. (Image: Seven)

And while it’s now up in the air if she’ll get to make her DWTS dancefloor debut, the determined star is going to try!

“I don’t give up that easy,” she tells Woman’s Day. “I’m stubborn. The doctors can tell me what the doctors want to tell me and I’ll take that under advisement and then see if I can prove them wrong.”

She’s also practical, though. “If I can’t get out there and dance I think I’ll need a while to recover emotionally because it’s just been a beautiful time and a really special experience,” she says. “I would really hate for it to end like this.”

Julie also wants to don the sparkles and dance her heart out for her three-year-old granddaughter Delilah.

“First it was my children, and now my grandchild, everything I do it’s just to show them you give things a go – and don’t be frightened to get outside your comfort zone because that’s where the best parts of life happen.”

Jelena Dokic: “Beauty isn’t a number on a scale” https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/celebrity-news/jelena-dokic-health-journey/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519495 After losing 20kg, the star is opening up about her positive mindset.

The post Jelena Dokic: “Beauty isn’t a number on a scale” appeared first on Now To Love.

Dancing down her hallway to Mariah Carey’s Fantasy, tennis legend Jelena Dokic can’t wipe the smile off her face as she embraces “starting her day with positivity” while doing a little bit of silly morning dancing!

It’s just one of the many positive changes Jelena Dokic has made recently.

After years of struggling with her mental health, the tennis pro turned commentator is working hard to shift her internal narrative.

JELENA DOKIC JOURNEY

Jelena Dokic is a sports commentator.
Jelena Dokic’s life has changed for the better, after therapy. (Image: Instagram)

She’s gone from “victim to survivor to thriver” and “let go of hate and approach life with kindness, compassion and gratitude”.

She released her first book Unbreakable seven years ago, which details the emotional and physical abuse she suffered throughout her tennis career at the hands of her father.

And Jelena says she’s still feeling the effects of writing it. It unleashed a profound change in her life.

TIME FOR CHANGE

Jelena came to Australia as a refugee in 1994 from Yuogslavia.

The child prodigy, who came to Australia as a refugee in 1994 from the former Yugoslavia, is finally able to see that there’s more to life than tennis.

“I always thought that what I do in tennis will define me and who I am as a person and how worthy I am,” she tells Go Behind The Mask podcast. “I believed that for a long time.”

Now through therapy the 41-year-old is realising that she’s worth more than just her achievements on court.

“I only really discovered that through the journey of writing.

“That’s why I’ll say it every single day for the rest of my life: Unbreakable changed my life, and it saved my life. It gave me a voice, I was free,” Jelena tells The Guardian.

FINDING A PURPOSE

She retired in 2014 but felt lost and struggled to find a purpose.
After she retired in 2014, Jelena says she felt lost and struggled to find a purpose. (Image: Getty)

Far from being a celebrity issuing empty platitudes on Instagram, Jelena uses the darkest elements of her story to connect with people who have suffered similar traumas.

It’s helping her find “my calling”.

Because finding a purpose after being a professional athlete is tough, says the Wimbledon commentator. She felt lonely and lost after retiring in 2014, while feeling like she hadn’t reached her full potential.

“I was a woman with nothing to aspire to, no goals and dreams left,” Jelena tells The Guardian.

“And to now be doing this – if you told me that 10 years ago, I would have told you that you are literally crazy… I have a lot of joy in my life now, I’m thriving.”

THE POWER OF SPEAKING

She adds that becoming a motivational speaker and consistently speaking up about her experience “has actually saved my life at times”.

Social media has also allowed her to create a community to share her experiences with people, even if sometimes cruel trolls weigh her down.

Recently she took to Instagram to address her weight loss and the “myth of perfection”, after she was trolled online.

WEIGHT LOSS BATTLE

Her weight was at its heaviest last year.
The tennis star was at her heaviest last year but has worked hard to lose 20kg.

“I had some health issues but also I just wanted to get healthier and fitter and when I turned 40 last year I really started to think about my family history of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems.”

Jelena has lost 20kg and adds that while she’s happy she’s lost the weight for health reasons, it won’t change who she is.

“I still want people to value me and others based on whether we are kind and good people. I will always be proud of myself and not hide or be embarrassed no matter what size I am,” she writes.

“Beauty is not what is on the outside. Beauty is not the number on the scale or having a pretty face. Beauty is having a beautiful mind, a beautiful heart and a beautiful soul. Beauty is being kind, empathetic, hard working and a good person.”

We couldn’t agree more!

Princess Anne admits she “can’t remember a single thing” in triumphant return to royal duties https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/royals/princess-anne-health/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 08:50:35 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=517290 The Princess Royal is back in the saddle again.

The post Princess Anne admits she “can’t remember a single thing” in triumphant return to royal duties appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Princess Anne is as well known for her tireless commitment to public service as she is for her love of horses. Unfortunately, the latter saw the Princess Royal spend five days in hospital with a concussion and minor head injuries.

On the day of the incident, the 73-year-old was seen walking near the horses on her Gatcombe Park estate. And, while the exact cause of her injuries remains uncertain, her medical team suggested they were consistent with an impact from a horse’s head or legs.

PRINCESS ANNE IS BACK

Anne looked healthy and well, despite a bruised face, as she stepped out in public for the first time in almost three weeks. She was attending the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) National Championships on 12 July 2024.

The RDA was celebrating its 55th anniversary. And her Royal Highness was beaming from ear to ear to be back to her royal duties, chatting to members of the public.

The King’s sister has been the Patron of the RDA since November 1971 and assumed the role of President in March 1986. (Image: Getty)

In true Princess-Royal fashion, reports confirm that one of the first things she said as she got out of the car was, “I can’t remember a single thing about it.” And that’s that. It’s business as usual for this “hardest-working royal“.

The Royal Diary, which is published weeks in advance, currently lists Princess Anne’s next scheduled outing as a visit to the NLV Pharos ship off the west coast of Scotland in her role as Patron of the Northern Lighthouse Board on July 15th and 16th.

The royal was discharged from hospital on June 28th to recuperate comfortably at home. Her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence thanked the Southmead Hospital team for “their care, expertise and kindness” during her stay.

Princess Anne’s hospitalisation is the latest health challenge facing the Royal Family. Her brother King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales have both been hit with a cancer diagnosis this year, limiting their public engagements.

The post The 11 Paris 2024 Olympic Games venues so iconic, they might steal the show appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
The Olympics are about to kick off in Paris soon. And while in years past, the focus has been on the competitors, this year, the Olympic Games venues are set to steal the show.

From the iconic Eiffel Tower and world-renowned Champ de Mars to the Château De Versailles, jaws are set to drop in France’s City of Light for the Olympic Games.

Let’s take a look at the Olympic Games venues that, alone, are worth booking a ticket to Paris for.

THE 11 MOST ICONIC PARIS 2024 OLYMPIC GAMES VENUES

(Image: Getty)

01

STADE DE FRANCE

Paris 2024 sports: Athletics, Rugby Sevens

Capacity: 77,083

Arguably France’s most well-known stadium and definitely its largest, Stade de France was built to host the 1998 men’s FIFA World Cup.

And it has served its purpose well, hosting multiple games, including the nail-biting match where Les Bleus famously won its first world championship against Brazil.

(Image: Getty)

02

ROLAND-GARROS STADIUM

Paris 2024 sports: Tennis, Boxing

Capacity: 34,000

Roland-Garros Stadium has hosted the French Open for nearly a century.

The legendary sports complex, named in memory of French aviator Roland Garros, spans more than 12 hectares dotted with 18 clay courts.

(Image: Getty)

03

STADE VÉLODROME

Paris 2024 sports: Football

Capacity: 67,394

The Stade Vélodrome, also known as the Orange Velodrome, was originally built for cycling events. But it has since evolved to host various sports and significant events.

Built in 1937, the stadium has hosted memorable sporting events, including the 1938 and 1998 Football World Cups and the 2016 European Football Championships.

(Image: Getty)

04

PLACE DE LA CONCORDE

Paris 2024 sports: BMX Freestyle, Skateboarding, Breaking, 3X3 Basketball

Capacity: 30,000

Place de la Concorde is one of the largest and most famous public squares in Paris. Filled with rich history, the Place once served as a central stage for the French Revolution.

And it’s also held some of the nation’s biggest festivities like the victorious celebration at the end of World War I, the Liberation of Paris in World War II and even the French men’s national team taking home the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

(Image: Getty)

05

PARC DES PRINCES

Paris 2024 sports: Football

Capacity: 47,926

This impressive stadium was designed by architect Roger Taillibert who also lays claim to Montreal’s Olympic Stadium.

The ‘Parc’ was built back in 1972 and has been the home of football club Paris Saint-Germain since 1974. With regular upkeep, the stadium shines as brightly today as it did back then.

(Image: Getty)

06

GRAND PALAIS

Paris 2024 sports: Fencing, Taekwondo

Capacity: 8,000

The Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées, more commonly known as simply the Grand Palais, stuns with its incredible nave and glass roof in the heart of Paris.

The iconic complex, which is listed as a historic monument by the French Ministry of Culture, wears many hats. Today it serves as a museum, art gallery, exhibition and concert hall as well as a sports venue, on occasion.

(Image: Getty)

07

CHÂTEAU DE VERSAILLES

Paris 2024 sports: Equestrian, Modern Pentathlon

Capacity: upwards of 40,000, depending on the event

The previous home to the court of King Louis XIV, The Château de Versailles was the first French site to ever be awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979.

Also known as the Palace of Versailles in English, the site will see a temporary outdoor arena erected in the heart of the Palace’s gardens, which will stage the dressage, eventing cross country and jumping competitions. The modern pentathlon events, except for the fencing ranking rounds, will also take place here.

(Image: Getty)

08

CHAMP DE MARS ARENA & EIFFEL TOWER STADIUM

Paris 2024 sports: Beach Volleyball, Judo, Wrestling

Capacity: 8,356

While you might not have known its name, you’ve definitely seen this stunning greenspace before. Nestled between the Eiffel Tower on one side and the École Militaire to the other, The Champ de Mars lawns have traditionally been used as drilling and marching grounds by the French military.

The Champ de Mars Arena is a temporary structure that has been built solely for the Olympic Games and will stage the judo and wrestling competitions. However, it’s the volleyball players and spectators that will have a hard time focusing – they’ll be going for gold in the open air right beside the iconic Eiffel Tower.

(Image: Getty)

09

ESPLANADE DES INVALIDES

Paris 2024 sports: Archery

Capacity: 8,000

A sprawling green space in the heart of Paris, the Esplanade des Invalides offers a stunning view of the majestic Hôtel des Invalides – a complex of buildings that nod to France’s military history.

During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, this famous site will not only host the archery competition, but it will also serve as the finish line of a marathon.

(Image: Getty)

10

TEAHUPO’O

Paris 2024 sports: Surfing

Capacity: 600

A village on the coast of Tahiti, Teahupo’o is famous for having the most amazing waves for surfing. It might seem unusual that part of the Olympic Games would be held here, but the reason why is actually pretty sound.

Teahupo’o is an island in French Polynesia. And one of Paris 2024’s goals was to spread the Games across France and engage French overseas territories and communities in the Olympics. Mission accomplished.

(Image: Getty)

11

YVES-DU-MANOIR STADIUM

Paris 2024 sports: Hockey

Capacity: 15,000

First opened in 1907, the stadium was the primary arena for the Olympic Games in 1924. It did it all, hosting the athletics, cycling, horse riding, gymnastics, tennis, football, rugby and pentathlon events with ease.

But that’s not the stadium’s only claim to fame. It also hosted the final of the 1938 FIFA World Cup where Italy beat Hungary, winning its second world title.

Unlike past years, Prime Day is on for six days! From 16 July to 21 July, Prime Members can ‘add to cart’ like nobody’s business. The retailer is slashing prices on items from electronics to home and kitchen wares, Amazon devices, everyday essentials, beauty, video games, toys, shoes and more.

It’s basically Christmas in July!

With two kids (one with a July birthday), Father’s Day coming up, a full-time job and a home that could use a refresh, this is what I’m planning to save on during the annual shopping event as a 15-year Prime veteran.

TOYS AND CRAFT KITS

Kim Kardashian showed off daughter North’s giant collection of Squishmallows. (Image: Instagram)

Amazon is my go-to for kids’ birthday presents, family activities and arts-and-crafts kits to keep my budding artist busy for hours – and away from a screen.

This Prime Day, Amazon is offering savings across craft supplies, kits and art accessories. Certain toys like LEGO are discounted as well. This means it’s the perfect time to stock up on birthday presents for all the parties my kiddos are sure to be invited to for the rest of the year.

And my Amazon wish came true – Squishmallows are on sale for Prime Day! I’m getting this adorable four pack.

ELECTRONICS

Anne Hathaway’s expression is much like my own son’s when he sees me. Absolutely thrilled!

I have a teenage son, so it’s less about the toys and more about the electronics these days. According to Amazon, top brand names like Apple, Bose and Philips will be featured in the sales.

While he’d no doubt love a new smart TV (this one from Sony is so amazing, I think it’s the perfect replacement for our living room), Apple Airpods, $150, or Bose headphones, he won’t get all three. However, these Prime Day deals make it tempting to grab them all!

Also, did you see the Fire TV Stick 4K Max? It’s 50% off right now, making it only $59. And to sweeten the deal, you also score a bonus 1-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with purchase. Time to get Christmas ready!

FATHER’S DAY

David Beckham’s new cooking toy is on Amazon Prime. (Image: Instagram)

Father’s Day isn’t until September, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get a head start on getting something for the rockstar men in our lives.

I, for one, will be grabbing a Kindle Paperwhite, $214, for my darling husband. He’s really gotten into reading a lot of leadership books to level up in his career, and it seems like the perfect gift of support.

Also, when you sign up for a Prime membership between 24 June to 21 July, Amazon is giving you three months of Kindle Unlimited for free. After that, it’s just $13.99/month, and you can cancel anytime.

Oh and he’s also a fan of the new all-in-one Ninja Woodfire Pro grill David Beckham shared on his Instagram stories. While not an official Prime Day deal, Prime members can save $10 when spending $150 with Zip, using code ZIPPRIMEDAY at checkout.

KITCHEN HELPERS

Even celebrity chefs love the convenience of a good air fryer. (Image: X)

My kitchen has been neglected a bit too long. And trying to get dinner on the table for a family of four after working in the office all day is not an easy feat.

So to streamline the process, I’m grabbing this Philip’s air fryer that not only seems to be celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay approved, but it also promises to make simple work of dinner.

I’ll also be adding fresh kitchen towels (can never have too many!) and a pretty new cookware set that’ll make me want to actually cook dinner (I hope!). This non-stick ceramic set is beautiful.

EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS

Be like Beyoncé and get a Dyson Airwrap as your ‘everyday essential’ – I mean, it is on sale after all! (Image: Instagram)

From coffee pods to bubbly kombucha drinks, I regularly turn to Amazon to deliver the items I need straight to my door.

With Prime Day, several of these items have been heavily discounted, making it easier to save. And in this economy, who isn’t pinching pennies?

Also, toilet bowl cleaners aren’t glamorous, but they are a necessity. So, I’ll be popping some of that goodness in my cart along with more shower, glass and surface cleaners. And I’m in dire need of a new Dyson vacuum. This one is nearly 50 per cent off – so adding to cart!

Literally, Amazon has pretty much everything. I regularly buy hand soap and body wash from the retailer as well.

And for a little “treat”, I’m adding this Dyson Airwrap to cart!

GET READY FOR PRIME DAY

To score big on Prime Day, consider following these 3 shopping tips:

 • Become an Amazon Prime member: New customers in Australia are eligible for a free Prime membership trial. Click here to find out more.
 • Download the Amazon app: The app not only makes ordering a breeze, it can also alert you when your saved items go on sale.
 • Create an Amazon wish list: Creating a wish list is a great way to map out what you need. There’s even a feature to turn on deal notifications, which alert you when a product on your wish list goes on special.

Happy shopping!

Controversy unfolds over Prince George’s schooling https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/royals/royal-family-school-79077/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 01:30:17 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/royals/british-royal-family/royal-family-school-79077 Princess Kate is "heartbroken".

The British royal children’s education has many rules and traditions behind it, but the Prince and Princess of Wales have not always followed them.

Princess Kate and Prince William‘s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis returned for their second year at Lambrook School in the Berkshire countryside in early September 2023.

However, now, the controversy surrounds where Prince George will be going to University.

Prince George’s schooling is a hot-button issue with mum and dad. (Image: Getty)

Mum and dad first displayed they weren’t interested in British royal tradition after sending their children to a co-ed school.

But now it’s rumoured that the royal couple have been having heated discussions over Prince George’s schooling, which have left the Princess heartbroken.

A RETURN TO TRADITION?

Currently, it’s said the young prince is set to attend the all-boys secondary school Eton, which is the same institution attended by his father and uncle Prince Harry. However, mum Princess Kate is worried about him going to an all-boys ‘upper-crust’ boarding school given her experience with bullying at the elite girls boarding school in Berkshire she attended called Downe House.

Her time there was so horrible that she left mid-term and enrolled at Marlborough College, a co-ed boarding school in Wiltshire. She stayed there for the rest of her schooling and is keen for George to attend her alma mater as well. If this were to occur, however, Prince George would be the first to break tradition between his father and grandfather, King Charles, by attending a co-ed school.

“Kate long disagreed with her husband about sending him away, even though it’s tradition,” a palace insider told InTouch Weekly.

The source added Kate, who is currently taking a break from public duties while undergoing treatment for cancer, was “finally giving in” to her husband’s wishes and he appears to have “won” the argument for now.

Let’s take a look at where the Royals went to school.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte first attended school at Thomas’s Battersea in London before the family relocated to Windsor.

From there, all three children currently attend Lambrook School in the Berkshire countryside.

The prep school is one of the top schools in the UK and goes beyond the traditional curriculum, offering amazing sporting and performing arts facilities.

The school term fees range from £4,389 (AUD $7,670) for reception to year two, then jumping to £6,448 (AUD $11,268) from year three onwards.

Although, the children were home-schooled during the global pandemic in 2020 which presented challenges for the children, William and Kate:

Prince William and Prince Harry both attended Ludgrove School near Wokingham in Berkshire, a 30-minute drive from the Queen’s Windsor Castle.

More famously both boys went on to attend Eton College which was a topic pick for his mother, the late Princess Diana as members of the Spencer family, including her father and brother, went to Eton.

The Prince of Wales studied at the University of St Andrews where he initially started a degree majoring in art history before switching to geography in his second year and graduated with a Master of Arts.

Harry decided to opt out of university and entered Sandhurst, Britain’s military academy for training army officers, and was commissioned as an officer in 2006.

King Charles began his education at Hill House School in West London before moving to Cheam School.

He then went on to Gordonstoun where he would become the first of three royal generations to attend with Princes Andrew and Edward after.

Different to her brothers, Princess Anne was educated at home similar to her mother, for the first 13 years of her education.

Reportedly Anne asked to be sent to school like her siblings and started at Benenden School in Kent in 1963.

In October 1967 Prince Charles was admitted to Trinity College at the University of Cambridge where he read Archaeology & Anthropology and then History.

Prince Edward went on to study at Jesus College, Cambridge, graduating with a degree in History. He then spent three years in the Royal Marines as a University Cadet.

Princess Anne did not go to university, but chose to follow her passion as an equestrian and in 1976 competed in the Olympic Games riding one of her mother’s horses.

Prince Andrew did not attend university either, but completed a Royal Navy commissioning course at Britannia Royal Naval College and other courses during his military career.

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson reveals her ‘secret recipe’ for wrinkle-free skin at 64 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/nigella-lawson-antiaging-skincare/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 00:09:43 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519401 No, it's not botox!

The post Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson reveals her ‘secret recipe’ for wrinkle-free skin at 64 appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
At 64, Nigella Lawson‘s glowing, wrinkle-free skin has everyone asking for her secret. Literally.

After relentless begging on social media, the star chef and cookbook author has finally served up the one recipe her fans have been dying for: the fountain of youth.

Nigella Lawson, wrinkle-free, cooking in the kitchen
Nigella Lawson is the domestic goddess that’s helping us age and eat well. (Image: Getty)

And it’s surprisingly simple and even cost-effective. Nigella swears by a nightly regimen that involves just four ingredients: a muslin cloth, a concentrated exfoliating cleanser, a facial oil and a bit of climate control.

The celebrity chef tweeted: “My immutable night time regime: @VH_Beauty Prickly Pear Seed Oil, massaged in after washing my face with a muslin and TempleSpa’s In the Beginning cleanser.

“And no central heating in the bedroom!”

Easy peasy, right? Click your way to wrinkle-free skin a la Nigella’s 3-step night-time routine below.

NIGELLA LAWSON’S 3-STEP SKINCARE ROUTINE

01

CLEANSE WITH CARE

Nigella’s skincare ritual begins with cleansing her face every night using a muslin cloth and an indulgent balm cleanser. Not only does the cleanser remove makeup and impurities, but it also provides a gentle exfoliation thanks to the muslin cloth.

Our pick? The cult-favourite Eve Lom cleanser, $158.99, loved by celebrities like Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Eva Mendez to name a few. Its rich texture and nourishing ingredients leave skin feeling soft and rejuvenated.

02

NOURISH WITH PRICKLY PEAR SEED OIL

After cleansing, Nigella massages her face with prickly pear seed oil. The chef has been known to call this her “face-saving magic”.

This luxurious oil is packed with vitamins E and K, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that hydrate and repair the skin. It’s known for its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin elasticity, making it a perfect addition to an anti-aging routine.

“Put it on at night and you’ll wake up looking as if you’ve been to a spa by the sea, slept 10 hours a night and been off Twitter for a month,” Nigella Lawson wrote in the Sunday Times.

03

KEEP IT COLD

The final step in Nigella’s skincare regimen is a bit unconventional but highly effective: she avoids using central heating in her bedroom.

Central heating can dry out the air, which in turn dries out your skin. By keeping her bedroom cool and humidity balanced, Nigella ensures her skin retains its natural moisture, preventing dryness and promoting a more youthful appearance.

Many celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz swear by adding a humidifier to their beauty routines. Running a humidifier pulls moisture back into the air to improve dry, itchy skin and help it retain essential hydration. We love this one from Philips, $139 for a sleek, effective option.

BEAUTY TIPS FOR AGING

Despite her enviable complexion, even Nigella has admitted that the “beauty problem” of getting older has been tough for her. “I’m trying to go with it,” she opened up in an interview with Oprah.

“I think what ages a face most is disappointment and a lack of enjoyment. So I try to do what I love.”

Now that’s some beauty advice we can get behind!

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Nadia Bartel thinks boyfriend Peter Dugmore might be ‘the one’ https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/nadia-bartel-boyfriend/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 05:19:10 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519300 Things are getting serious between the lovebirds.

The post ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Nadia Bartel thinks boyfriend Peter Dugmore might be ‘the one’ appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Nadia Bartel, 38, first rose to fame as the glamorous wife of AFL player Jimmy Bartel. The couple married in 2014 and share two beautiful boys together. However, despite the picture-perfect family image Nadia painted on social media, the two were struggling. And by 2019, they split.

The Australian model and fashion designer has since moved on with new beau Peter Dugmore, a model with Giant Management and former semi-professional AFL player.

The two were said to have been dating in secret for a couple of years before they officially stepped out as a couple earlier this year at the Australian Open.

Nadia and Peter are getting really serious. (Image: Instagram)

About her partner, Nadia told Herald Sun, “I like to be private in some things, but we’re so happy. He’s a really good person, and we’re enjoying our time together.”

PURE BLISS

Recently, Nadia shared images on social media of her and Peter in Bali at Uluwatu beach, enjoying some fun in the sun in a much-needed getaway.

Poor Nadia tanked her Dancing With The Stars debut and copped some harsh feedback from the judges – “It was out of time. It lacked dynamic […] it didn’t look like a cha-cha.” Clearly, a holiday was well and truly in order!

“Pure bliss here. The beach was so beautiful today,” she captioned images of herself laying out in a black-and-white bikini and ball cap.

Other images included a shirtless, towel-clad Peter in front of the ocean and the pair cuddling up on the couch.

SUCH A GOOD PERSON

By March, it seemed things had gotten really serious with her new beau. At Glamour on the Grid in Melbourne, Nadia told Daily Mail Australia, “I think he’s ‘the one’. I do think he is and I think he’s got so many amazing attributes.

“He’s just such a good person. I think the way he makes me feel…”

The pair have recently taken some time for themselves in Bali. (Image: Instagram)

The Henne co-founder first hinted at her relationship with Peter in July 2023 while the two were travelling through Europe. While the photo posted showed only the profile of his face, fans were already speculating the two were an item.

From there, it was only a couple of days before she posted an image gallery with Peter’s full face on display. He was also tagged in the images.

We look forward to seeing their sweet relationship evolve. Who knows, maybe wedding bells are in the not-so-distant future.

What to do in Austin, Texas https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/what-to-do-in-austin-texas/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 03:33:09 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=515608 There's more to this town than barbecue - think shopping, nightlife, galleries and more - but of course you still have to have it!

The post What to do in Austin, Texas appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
There are many things that Austin, the capital of Texas in the USA, is well-known for, but one reigns supreme – barbecue. Indeed, the whole state is obsessed with the stuff, and Texans really do it bigger and better than anyone!

That’s why, on a 35-degree day, we’ve joined a long queue at famous food joint Franklin Barbecue to get our hands on their brisket.

You may have to queue, but it’s worth it. Credit: supplied

Shuffling slowly towards the door, we can see people coming out with trays of meat, coleslaw and potato salad, and it looks delicious.

Finally it’s our turn and the food does not disappoint – the brisket is cooked for hours in the restaurant’s smoker, it falls apart as you touch it and tastes amazing.

We add a pork rib and some turkey to the mix (well, we had to try it, right?) and all of it was sublime.

Lunch Tray pork ribs, smoked turkey, sausage, brisket & pulled pork. Enough for you? Credit: Supplied

Stuffed full, we step back out into the heat to head towards some more of the Austin landmarks – although we’re taking them in from the comfort of a bus with Austin Detours’ The Real Austin tour.

Our driver takes us to the imposing pink granite Texas Capitol building, and we head inside to see the impressive and historic place for ourselves.

A drive around some other hotspots – including the famous Greetings From Austin mural, food trucks and well-known stores – gives us a great overview of the city and introduces us to yet another Austin must-see – the bats!

Every summer night at sundown, thousands of bats fly out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge, and tourists flock to see the spectacle – it’s certainly impressive!

Colonies of bats live under Austin’s Congress Ave bridge. Credit: supplied

Back to food and it’s time for dinner. We hit up Kemuri Tatsu-Ya – a restaurant we had seen on Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil.

A fusion of barbecue and Japanese cuisine, this place is well worth a visit, with the brisket and gouda stuffed tofu pockets a real highlight.

Phil, you were right, this is amazing. Credit: supplied

Once again full to the brim, we hop on some electric scooters to ride to our next famous Austin landmark – The White Horse Honky Tonk bar in East Austin.

Austin is a music town, and this place is the real deal, filled with couples doing the Texas Two Step to live music. It’s great fun, and if you’re feeling brave enough, you can head out on to the dance floor, too!

If you’re not done after a boogie here, head to 6th Street. This is where you’ll find more bars, clubs and restaurants, and music playing every night.

Another favourite is the fun Rainey Street, where houses have been turned into bars and a host of food trucks feed the partiers. Both places will have you out ’til late!

Austin’s iconic 6th St will have something to suit all night owls. Credit: Supplied

Of course, there is far more to the city of Austin than just booze and barbecue, so we also make sure to head to Blanton Museum of Art.

This impressive museum houses the famous art and architecture work ‘Austin’ by Ellsworth Kelly, and is great to get to if you’re in the area. An afternoon spent here is a nice way to beat the heat, and see a different side to the town the locals want to “stay weird”.

An Uber ride to the super cool shopping district of South Congress, including the famous Allens Boots store where we try on a load of boots, tops off the day.

Wandering through boutiques and trying on Stetsons is fun, and there are plenty of food stops and bars should you get tired.

While famous for its barbecue and bats, adding great shopping, music and art to the mix means that Austin, in fact, has something for everyone.

Where to stay

The Loren at Lady Bird Lake is the perfect place to rest when you’re in Austin. It’s across the lake from the city, so you get great views of the skyline AND you’re a little removed from the action.

This luxe hotel also has a fitness centre with a yoga studio, and rooftop pool – great for when the temperature rises and that Texan sun hits hard.

We had a king room complete with a great view over the trees to the water, and the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in!

The restaurant Nido is well worth a visit too – combining Texan cuisine with fine dining and really, really good cocktails.

A walk (or ride) across the bridge and you’re firmly in the action of downtown Austin, plus you’re also close to the water if you’re keen on paddle boarding (or a swim in Barton Springs pool).

I took my mum to Uluru: It was the perfect all-age getaway https://www.nowtolove.com.au/travel/travel-to-uluru/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 03:19:45 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=513131 Here's why Uluru is the perfect destination for travellers from eight to 80!

The post I took my mum to Uluru: It was the perfect all-age getaway appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
I spent a few days exploring Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in 2022 and fell in love with everything about the wonderful centre of Australia. This year I wanted to take my mum to experience this very special place. But would it be ok for an 80-year-old?

The answer is yes. Uluru actually the perfect place to travel with family of all ages. Here’s why…

It’s easy…

Getting around at Uluru is super simple. As soon as you arrive at Ayers Rock airport, there is a bus waiting to whisk you away to the wonderful Ayers Rock Resort, and buses can drive you to most attractions and events, which makes everything super convenient for all ages.

The bus drops you right outside the hotel, so there’s no need to walk too far or struggle with luggage. The Resort also has a range of accommodation to suit all needs. We opted for rooms at the Desert Gardens Hotel, and the ground floor rooms were easily accessible, comfortable and had outdoor areas where we could relax.

Plus, the resort shuttle runs every 20 minutes and means that you never have to walk too far – hop on for a brief trip to the town square, where you can buy souvenirs and art works, plus any other must-haves in the handy IGA.

Another plus? The resort can also book your tours and activities for you, so everything is super easy and well-organised.

Mum and I loved every minute at Uluru. Credit: Supplied

It’s all about connection to Country

Seeing Uluru up close is such an amazing and moving experience – we headed to the Cultural Centre, where we learned some of the history of the area and a little about Tjukurpa – the traditional law and creation stories of Anangu, the traditional owners.

Next we did the short Kuniya Walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole – a lush and shady area with a lot of cultural significance to Anangu. This was such a breathtaking place to visit – we were shown fascinating rock art and heard about Kuniya the woma python woman.

Both of us loved hearing these incredible stories and felt privileged to have been welcomed there.

There’s so much to see and do

We were super excited for the Wintjuri Wiru drone show over Uluru. As night approached, we hopped on a bus from our hotel for the short drive to the Wintjuri Wiru site.

Cocktails and canapes were waiting as we made the short walk along a well-lit and easy to navigate boardwalk, then as dusk settled we moved down to bleacher style seating, with our own gourmet picnic hamper filled with delicious food, native flavours at the fore.

As it got colder, mum was able to wrap up with the complimentary blankets – and we sat in awe as the drone show began, telling the Mala story of Anangu in lights, lasers, music and video.

It was truly amazing storytelling, spine-tinglingly emotional and well worth the money. I would say it’s a must-see if you’re visiting Uluru.

Just look at all this yummy food! Credit: Supplied

The next day we enjoyed some of the free activities at the resort – starting with an easy guided garden walk.

Our guide highlighted some of the local flora, bush foods and more on a short walk around the grounds, and it was fascinating.

Another free activity was The Gallery of Central Australia (GoCA) tour – where we learned about the paintings in the gallery as well as what each symbol means in the indigenous artworks on display.

The sky’s the limit…

Dinner on our second night was at Sails in the Desert hotel – this buffet style food fest is great if you want a taste of everything.

Mum and I loaded up on Indian dishes and delicious seafood before we headed to our next destination- the Field Of Light.

This major artwork by Bruce Monro covers more than seven football fields, has 50,000 spindles of light in different colours, and is accessible to most – though be aware you do have to walk in darkness some of the time.

The art work Field of Light stretches on forever… Credit: Supplied

We booked General Admission tickets ($48 each) and again hopped on the bus to take us there. We walked around in awe, while also looking up at the sky where we could see stars that stretched on forever – the effect of both is breathtaking.

Mum particularly loved the night sky here – we spotted the Milky Way and several constellations we knew as we gazed across this astonishing installation.

Uluru really is somewhere every Australian should try to experience – regardless of age!

The great thing is that you can be as active or as relaxed as you like — you can take the bus like we did, or you can hike, bike, ride camels and more.

The bottom line is that the Anangu really want you to get the most of your visit and to connect to Country and their culture – and that is something anyone can do, from 8 to 80 and beyond!

If you want to explore Uluru yourself, and stay at the wonderful Desert Gardens Hotel, you can book at Ayers Rock Resort or Booking.com here.

EXCLUSIVE: “It feels amazing!” ‘Dream Home Australia’ winners Rhys and Liam open up about their “nerve wracking” win https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/dream-home-2024-winners/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 01:52:14 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519242 They're already talking about their next show!

Dream Home Australia winners Rhys and Liam Almond were all smiles as they spoke to Woman’s Day, despite their throbbing headaches and lack of sleep from celebrating hard the night before.

Rightly so, the Queensland brothers walked away with a brand new house and $100,000 cash prize on Seven’s reality renovation show, so there was a lot to celebrate.

Dream Home winners Rhys and Liam Almond celebrate their win with fists in the air and big smiles

“It feels amazing. It feels like the hard work paid off. And it feels like it’s only the beginning,” gushes Liam, who left his wife and one-year-old daughter house-hopping between their parents’ homes while the renovations were going on.

The doting father hates that he missed his little girl’s first birthday, but says, “It was a short-time sacrifice for a massive gain. What we’ve managed to do is super special.”

Rhys found it tough as well to leave his partner, young daughter and one-week-old son for five months to go on the show. “It was really hard to leave,” he shares.

“I took a month off before he was born, so that I could spend as much time as I could with him before I went on the show.”

Of course, babies don’t always come when you want them to as was the case for this new dad. “He was two weeks late,” Rhys explained. “So, leaving him at only seven-days old was pretty hard.

A LIFE-CHANGING WIN

“But it felt like it was all worth it when Liam had his dream home revealed. It’s life changing for them. And I feel like I’ve done a massive favour there and then to win – it feels like a consolation. It feels great.”

With extreme gratitude to his brother for helping him get his dream home, Liam chose to give Rhys the entire $100,000 winnings. “My partner, daughter and I got the home, so as consolation for all he’s done, Rhys gets the prize money. It’s only fair that he gets it for all of his effort,” Liam says.

And a lot of effort it was! For five months, the brothers battled it out as one of six teams. The competition was positively fierce as well. In fact, Liam and Rhys, while hopeful they’d take home the win, weren’t entirely sure they had it in the bag.

“The stiff competition was definitely Lara and Peter after they showed how well they could score. They seemed like reno rookies, yet every single week, they did really well.

“And, of course, the girls (Taeler and Elle) performed every single week. They just knew what they were doing. Every week they got unreal marks. It was definitely a tough competition,” Liam recalls.

RHYS AND LIAM WERE CONFIDENT IN THEIR BACKYARD

Rhys adds, “The process last night was so nerve wracking. But we were confident in our backyard. We were really stoked for what we created. And we were also wrecked by the end of it!”

Undeniably, the show is fast-paced and hard work. “There was so much work to get done in a short timeframe. It was just a super sped-up renovation. Everyone worked so hard to make it happen,” Liam says.

The winners stand in front of their new dream home
$100k and a beautifully renovated home – not bad for five months of hard work! (Image: Instagram)

So how did they keep their energy up to perform week after week? “I guess it was the drive to want to succeed and also … I’ve got ADHD,” Rhys laughs.

Even though the brothers weren’t used to spending so much time together, Dream Home seems to have strengthened their bond. “For a bit, we were pretty much sleeping in the same bed,” Liam laughs. “Two brothers spending that much time together was challenging. But it was rewarding as well. And it was fun.”

Would they do it again? Absolutely. The two made friends with the other contestants and hope to spend time together when they’re all in the same state.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE BROTHERS?

Dr Chris pushes Liam and Rhys on an outdoor swing
Dr Chris is “always good for a laugh”. (Image: Instagram)

And they say Dr Chris Brown, the show’s host and popular Bondi Vet star, was an amazing bloke.

“He’s awesome,” Liam shares. “He’s just like the guy you see on TV. He seems like such a nice person and then you meet him, and he’s exactly the same – such a friendly guy.

“Basically, Chris is always good for a laugh and has a smile on his face. He’s really positive to be around.”

As for what’s next, well, the brothers say they’re open to doing another show. Maybe Dancing With The Stars? “If there’s another show going, we’ll give it a go,” Liam grins.

For now, though, Rhys and Liam are going to celebrate their wins with their families … and nurse their headaches!

It’s all love for former tennis legend and current host of Tipping Point Australia Todd Woodbridge when it comes to family.

He married his wife Natasha in 1995 and together, they have two beautiful adult children Zara, 23, and Beau, 21. Rounding out their family is darling Millie, their Groodle pup.

A FOREVER KIND OF LOVE

While the couple like to keep their private life out of the spotlight, every once in a while, we’re given a glimpse into their sweet love story.

For example, recently, the couple celebrated their 29th anniversary this year, commemorating it with a throwback picture of their wedding day on Instagram. Todd captioned it: 29 years today ❤ Happy Anniversary @natashawoodbridge xxx

The 1996 Olympic gold medallist also regularly posts proud dad moments to his social media accounts. While his son and daughter haven’t followed in Dad’s footsteps on the tennis courts, they each lead successful lives in their own right.

Beau, for one, is a rising star who recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Master of Arts degree. There, he’s performed in a number of Broadway-esque musicals. And Todd has been his biggest supporter.

A PROUD ‘STAGE DAD’

The proud ‘stage dad’ regularly shares pictures from his performances with his 19,000-plus followers. He’s written: “Pretty special seeing @beau.woody up on stage”.

Todd and Natasha’s daughter Zara, on the other hand, is less focused on the stage and more on the greens – both on the golf course and as a nutrition student.

In 2021, the eldest Woodbridge child was crowned Royal Melbourne Women’s Club Champion. A year later, she became the Cathedral Club Champion. Zara also caddied for Gabi Ruffels, a former tennis star who transformed into a pro golf sensation, at the Australian Open.

Zara is into sports like her dad. However, she leans towards golf instead of tennis. (Image: Instagram)

PASSION FOR THE ‘GREEN’

Running a fitness and health instagram page, where she posts ‘all things nutrition, health and fitness’, Zara shares healthy meals and explains the importance of protein in a healthy diet.

And not to forget the sweet family’s beautiful Aussie groodle Millie, even the pup has an instagram account! She’s a star in her own right. Images of the posh pup include Millie in sunnies, running, looking cute and playing with – you guessed it – a tennis ball!

Just when you think the Woodbridge family couldn’t be any more wholesome, they rock up together on Christmas Eve to cuddle on the couch and support ‘dad’ watching the premier of Tipping Point Australia.

Meet Arisa Trew and Ruby Trew: The teenage Australian skateboarders going for gold at the Olympics https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/olympics/young-olympics-skateboarders-arisa-trew-ruby-trew/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 01:34:24 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519076 "Glass ceilings are so 2023."

The Olympic Games see athletes at the height of their career and the peak of their game. And remarkably, for these young female competitors, it didn’t take long to get there.

At only 14 and 15 years old, respectively, Aussies Arisa Trew and Ruby Trew are set to rewrite history in Paris, competing for the gold in skateboarding. The girls share no relation despite their identical last names.

However, they are good friends and have a bit of fun about the coincidence. “We just tell people we’re cousins, even though we’re not,” Arisa said.

Skateboarding has only been featured in the Olympics since 2020 (delayed to 2021 thanks to the pandemic). But it has long seen men and boys rule the ramps and dominate the half-pipes.

Now thanks to the grit and determination of these fearless young ladies, the tides are turning. And the global stage is preparing to witness just how amazing they are.

Meet the two inspiring competitors below:

ARISA TREW

Arisa, 14, started skating as an eight-year-old, but only because the water was too cold to surf. (Image: Olympics)

Arisa is from the Gold Coast and will be just 14 years 86 days when she competes in Paris. This makes her the seventh youngest Australian Olympian ever.

The young champion first turned heads at the Vert Alert ramp competition in Salt Lake City this past June. There, she became the first female in history to land the 720 – a move involving two full 360 rotations in the air.

Not only did she ace the trick, Arisa managed to do it in front of the guy who pioneered it nearly 40 years ago – skateboarding royalty Tony Hawk.

Since, it seems Tony has been keeping his eyes on her. Arisa absolutely nailed a 900-degree spin in a half-pipe, another female-first, and Tony took to his 8.8-million strong Instagram account to tell the tale.

He heaped praise, posting the video and captioning it: “Arisa Trew just became the first female to land a 900.

“Glass ceilings are so 2023. Congrats.”

Arisa commented on his post: “Thank you so much Tony! Your (sic) an inspiration”.

RUBY TREW

Ruby spends close to 40 hours a week either surfing, skating or at the gym. (Image: Olympics)

Sydney’s own Ruby Trew, 15, got her ticket to the Olympics after winning silver in the park division at the World Skateboarding Olympic qualifier in Argentina in May.

Just out of kindy, Ruby was only six when she competed in her first international competition. Then at 10, she beat out adult women to world championship silver.

Born to be an Olympian, Ruby set her sights on competing at the Tokyo Games when she was 12. But, that plan got pushed because of COVID-related incidents, she says.

“I got to the semi-finals and then the coach got COVID-19 and a few other people got COVID before him and they had to disqualify us from the comp,” Ruby said.

“If I would have gotten to the finals I would have gone to Tokyo, but that is just the way it is. It was very disappointing. I had a lot to bring and I was super excited, but no one could do anything about it. It wasn’t their fault they got COVID, it just happened.

“I was pretty bummed for a few weeks, but then I decided to get over it and keep skating and moving on.”

Of competing in the Olympics, Ruby says, “I’m thrilled to be representing my country in Paris. It’s an amazing achievement for myself, family and supporters.

“This has been a great journey not just for me but for all my teammates. We’ve worked so hard to get to this moment so we all really want to enjoy it and support each other, it’ll be amazing in Paris.”

THE OLYMPICS SKATEBOARDING COMPETITION

The Olympics Skateboarding competition will be held from Saturday 27 July to Sunday 28 July for Street, and from 6 August to 7 August 2024 for Park at the La Concorde venue in Paris.

In the heart of Paris, the La Concorde venue, along with the Grand Palais, the Eiffel Tower Stadium and Champ-de-Mars Arena, will temporarily be transformed into an urban park.
