On a quiet Sunday evening in April, Queen Elizabeth II made royal history in no less than four minutes and 30 seconds.

Her Majesty shared an unprecedented announcement in the wake of the COVID-19 health pandemic, which has gripped the world and sent countries into large scale lockdowns, as people battle its rapid spread.

Her resounding words hit home for people in Britain, and across the world, but none more so than the Queen’s direct relatives themselves, it seems.

In her poignant speech, which marked only the fourth time the Queen has addressed the nation in the wake of a crisis or large-scale event throughout her reign, the Monarch spoke of the importance of banding together.

“I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it. I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge,” she said.

“And those who come after us will say the Britons of this generation were as strong as any. That the attributes of self-discipline, of quiet good-humoured resolve and of fellow-feeling still characterise this country.”

The rare, emotionally charged address also touched on the incredible work currently being performed by NHS workers and volunteers on the frontline.

“What you do is appreciated and every hour of your hard work brings us closer to a return to more normal times,” the 93-year-old stated.

There’s no arguing with that, and it was proved case in point when the Queen’s recognition was echoed across other influential members of her family.

Prince William and Duchess Catherine were one of the first to promote the Queen’s emotional message.

Taking to their own Instagram platform, the Duke and Duchess shared a video of the Monarch’s speech.

And it was clear one of the themes of her speech – family – resonated deeply with the Cambridges.

In the caption, they shared the quote: “We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”

Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla’s official Instagram account also shared the Queen’s speech, directing their followers to watch the clip in full on the Royal Family’s main channel.

Princess Eugenie, who has also been directly affected after her father-in-law was hospitalised with the virus over the weekend, also made sure to share the video far and wide.

“Thank you for your words, they bring us together and unite us in our effort to overcome,” the Princess mused on her Instagram page.

Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, also shared the speech on Instagram, penning her own thoughts on the Queen’s emotional statement.

“Her Majesty’s words touched my core and inspired us to never give up. To unite as we have before. To never forget the British humour and to remember… We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again,” Ferguson wrote alongside an image of the Queen.

With such a strong and united response from members of the royal family, we’ve no doubt Britain, and other united Commonwealth countries will follow suit.

Sarah Ferguson and Princess Eugenie have been helping workers on the frontline by delivering them food and other essentials during the crisis.
