Now, the series is back with yet another season, promising to have something for everyone. Fans can also be rest assured that its full original cast and satirical spirit remain intact.

Season 12 sees the crew embark on mind-bending adventures involving birthday party games to the death, the secrets of Bender’s ancestral robot village, A.I. friends (and enemies), beanbags, and the true five million-year-old story behind coffee.

And, of course, the next chapter in Fry and Leela’s fateful, time-twisted romance.

Sam Neill ventures to rural Australia for The Twelve season two https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/the-twelve-season-two/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 04:52:04 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=516144 Everything we know about the new season.

The post Sam Neill ventures to rural Australia for The Twelve season two appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Following a controversial murder trial through the eyes of 12 jury members captured the attention from people across the globe in 2022 and now The Twelve returns with season two.

Showcasing some of Australia’s legacy actors including Sam Neill, Brooke Satchwell, and Kate Mulvany, The Twelve received three awards at the 2023 TV Week Logie Awards.

(Image: Binge)

With such a stellar first season, fans are itching to know what to expect in the new season, particularly who will be returning.

As we impatiently wait for The Twelve season two, we’ve answered all your burning questions below.

What is the plot for The Twelve?

The first season followed 12 ordinary Australian’s called in for jury duty whose hopes, fears, secrets, trauma and prejudices are on the stand just as much as the accused.

These citizens must decide whether artist Kate Lawson is guilty or innocent after being accused of killing Claire Spears, her 14-year-old niece. In the end, Kate was found guilty.

However, the second season of the crime drama will take place in rural Western Australia where a local landowner and respected town member. Bernice Price is found dead. Her two ex-lovers have been accused of her shock murder. But are they guilty?

(Image: Binge)

When does The Twelve season two release?

The second season of the hit Binge series will release on July 11, 2024.

What true story is The Twelve based on?

The Twelve is not based on a true story.

For those hunting a true crime story, this series is not the place to look. The Australian version of the series was inspired by a Belgian series created by Bert Van Dael and Sanne Nuyens.

The original series did, however, involve a lot of research on the judicial system from its creators.

“We put a lot of time in the research of our show. We really wanted to get to know how it felt inside a jury room. How much bias do we take with us? Every person has a background. How much of personal background defines our judgements? These were the ultimate questions for us while developing the series,” they said in an interview with Variety.

Who is the cast for The Twelve season two?

Acclaimed actor Sam Neill returns as Brett Colby in the new season, joined by Frances O’Connor, Tasma Walton, Kris McQuade, Amy Mathews, Erroll Shand, Fayssal Bazzi, Josh McKenzie, Anthony Brandon Wong, Stefanie Caccamo, Luke Pegler, Adriano Cappelletta, Nelson Baker, Greg McNeill, Suesha Rana, Brad Francis, and Isabelle Basen.

Unfortunately, fan-favourites Brooke Satchwell and Kate Mulvany will not be returning for a second season.

The Block’s Sharon Johal has landed the role as a juror, and revealed she cried after hearing the news.

“It’s quality TV – with quality writers, directors and cast, and it kind of reminds me of BBC dramas,” she told TV WEEK. “I just felt so special. I was out to dinner with Ankur when I got the phone call and we both cried.”

“I can hands down say this was the best set I’ve ever worked on. The work, obviously, but also the people. It’s so inclusive.”

Where to watch The Twelve:

The Twelve is available for streaming on Binge in Australia. The first season is available for first time watchers – or those simply wanting to rewatch the series.

Stream The Twelve on BINGE from $10/mth, with a 7-day free trial.

The Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood will explore the love story of a different generation https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/tv/outlander-blood-of-my-blood-79600/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 04:14:21 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/tv/outlander-blood-of-my-blood-79600 But can it compare to Jamie and Claire's story?

The post The Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood will explore the love story of a different generation appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Our favourite period drama Outlander will leave a giant Scotsman sized hole in our heart when its final eighth season airs, but we’re hoping its prequel Blood of My Blood will ease the heartache.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is a prequel series to the iconic historical drama, following the respective love story of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents’ love story in 18th century Scotland and World War I England.

First look images of the prequel. (Credit: Starz)

While nothing can compare to the legendary love story that is Jamie and Claire’s, many of the brilliant minds behind Outlander will continue boast their talents in the spin-off series.

Outlander’s showrunner Matthew B Roberts explained to The Herald in early 2023 that the prequel is “at its heart, a love story.”

“It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain,” he said.

“The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire and there will be several names and faces that Outlander fans will know and recognise.”

First look images at the Outlander spin-off. (Credit: Starz)

Who is cast in Blood of My Blood?

Playing Jamie’s mother Ellen Mackenzie is Harriet Slater, and her on-screen love interest is Jamie Roy as Jamie’s father Brian Fraser. Meanwhile, playing out the origin story of Claire’s parents is Hermione Corfield as Julia Moriston and Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp.

As for the familiar faces Matthew B Roberts discussed, some fan-favourite characters from Outlander will feature in Blood of My Blood as younger versions including Rory Alexander (Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser), Sam Retford (Dougal Mackenzie), Seamus McLeanRoss (Colum Mackenzie), and Conor MacNeill (Ned Gowan).

What do we know about Jamie Fraser’s parents?

Little information has been revealed regarding Jamie’s parents, Brian and Ellen. However, when the Scottish heartthrob does speak of them, he does so tenderly. His parents fell in love quickly, with the pair getting married and falling pregnant before Ellen’s family could object.

Ellen, sadly passed away during childbirth while in labour with her fourth baby. Jamie was one of three children, including Jenny and the eldest William who passed at a young age due to smallpox.

Meanwhile, Jamie’s dad died of apoplexy, brought on by having to watch his son being brutally tortured. Believing his son to be dead, Brian collapsed and sadly died a few days later.

What book is Blood of My Blood based on?

The prequel series will be based on Outlander author Diana Gabaldon’s tenth book, which Matthew revealed she is working “diligently” on.

Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be coming to an end with Season 8, but Diana is continuing on with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on Book 10,” he told the publication.

Diana will also act as consulting producer on the spin-off, ensuring the core story of the prequel will be protected.

Where to watch Outlander in Australia:

Outlander is available for streaming on Binge in Australia. Given Outlander’s streaming home, it can be predicted that Blood of My Blood will also be available for viewing to Binge upon its release.

Will House of the Dragon season two mark the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty? https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/tv/where-to-watch-house-of-the-dragon-australia-79469/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 23:48:34 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/tv/where-to-watch-house-of-the-dragon-australia-79469 ''No war so bloody as a war between dragons.''

The post Will House of the Dragon season two mark the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty? appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
We entered the story at the height of the Targaryen dynasty, and now the second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon is delving into its downfall.

With devastating war, dragons going head-to-head and family bonds being pushed to the limit, season two of House of the Dragon sees the continuation of the Dance of the Dragons.

Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood – roughly 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.

House of the Dragon covers the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, which was during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s father.

With House of the Dragon’s second season finally airing, discover everything you need to know below.

How did House of the Dragon season one end?

Before we dive into season two, here is a refresher given the near-two-year hiatus.

Young Lucerys Velaryon died at the hands of Aemond Targaryen and his dragon Vhagar. As Lucerys died, so too did Rhaenyra’s hope of peace.

Devastated by the loss of her son, the series ends with the promise of a bloody and brutal battle.

What is the plot for House of Dragon, season two?

The trailer, which summarises what you can expect this season, opens with Rhaenyra looking defeated and heartbroken as a voice states, “Errors were made in the hours following King Visery’s death.”

The newly crowned Aegon II is placed in evil light as he storms through the crown room, guards in his stead. Viewers also see glimpses of Daemon Targaryen and Aemond, the prince killer.

Banners representing the Targaryen and Hightower march with fields full of soldiers bring the promise of war.

Women, in particular Alicent and Rhaenyra, remain the heart of House of the Dragon as they are reluctant to destroy their family and the kingdom despite the trailer teasing a brutal war.

“There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin,” Rhaenyra said. To which her aunt Rhaenys Targaryen reminds her, “And no war so bloody as a war between dragons.”

When is House of the Dragon season two released?

House of the Dragon premiered with its first episode on June 17 on Binge,

Joining them are Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), Jacaerys Velaryon (Harry Collett), Lady Baela Targaryen (Bethany Antonia), Helaena Targaryen (Phia Saban), Jason Lannister (Jefferson Hall) and Larys Strong (Matthew Needham).

Meanwhile, there are newcomers to the second season including Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, and Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong.

Where can you watch House of the Dragon in Australia?

How does House of the Dragon end?

Don’t continue reading if you want a spoiler-free House of the Dragon viewing. However, if you’re a Game of Thrones fan, it may have already been spoiled.

Sadistic young monarch, Joffrey spoiled Rhaenyra’s tragic fate while showing his betrothed, Margaery Tyrell, her grave in season three, episode four of Game of Thrones. He gleefully revealed that she was murdered by her brother’s dragon.

“Rhaenrya Targaryen was murdered by her brother or rather his dragon. It ate her while her son watched,” he laughed. “What’s left of her is buried in the crypts right down there.”

Based on the plot of Fire & Blood, the brother Joffrey is referring to is none other than Aegon II, Alicent and Viserys I’s son.

Bridgerton star Ben Miller was “cancelled” eight years ago. Here’s why https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/why-bridgerton-ben-miller-was-cancelled/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519713 He won't make the mistake again!

In these trying times, it appears no-one is truly safe from the dreaded “cancel culture” – not even the multi-faceted and charming British actor Ben Miller, who tells TV WEEK how a seemingly innocent television interview in 2016 inspired the moral lynch mob to come after him.

“It was on UK chat show The One Show and the discussion was about home schooling,” Ben, 58, says. “If I’m honest, I was only half paying attention, as I was thinking about what I was going to say in my bit. And the host turned to me and asked, ‘So, Ben – what do you think of home schooling?’ Like a performing monkey, I came up with a jokey answer about how it’s an excuse for parents to sit around at home in their pyjamas.”

Thinking little more of it, the star continued with the interview, and it wasn’t until he returned home later that night and started getting “pings on his mobile phone that he realised something was wrong.

Ben Miller in blue shirt leaning on book case

“I logged onto Twitter [now known as X] and all these home schoolers were in understandable outrage at my complete disregard for home schooling! I was like, ‘Oh wow, I wasn’t expecting that – it was just an off-the-cuff’ joke!’”

Ben adds that, rather ironically, just a few years later the COVID-19 pandemic would mean he’d have to home-school his own three kids and he found out first-hand just how difficult it can be.

“Getting my kids to do anything is hard enough, but getting them to do schoolwork was one level beyond anything I’m capable of,” he laughs. “So, of course, my mind went back to all those home schoolers and the barrage of criticism, and I realised how much I sympathised with them and that they had a point. It educated me.” Ben’s experience inspired the story of Austin, the new ABC comedy in which he plays children’s author Julian Hartswood who, after unintentionally retweeting a Nazi, finds himself shunned.

The actor – who’s starred in the Johnny English film franchise, crime comedy drama Death In Paradise, period drama Bridgerton, and most recently crime drama Professor T – says working on a smaller production such as Austin was some of the most fun he’s had.

“It doesn’t get much better than with Austin,” he admits. “We’re a small crew and everybody is a huge part of the process, [whereas] on a huge show like Bridgerton, the machinery of making it is so enormous that generally there are just a clutch of people making the creative decisions. Those sets have to be a bit more dictatorial.”

He adds that he and his Austin co-stars, in particular Sally Phillips, Michael Theo and Gia Carides – who plays Austin’s mum Mel – were one “close, dysfunctional family.”

“We were all staying in this apartment block and there was a sort of campus feel to the whole thing. I think it was the first time Michael had lived away from home, so there was a bit of a party atmosphere with us all hanging out together.”

Ben Miller as Lord Featherington in Netflix series Bridgerton (Credit: Netflix)

Along with it being Michael’s first time living out of home, Austin marks the Love On The Spectrum star’s first foray into acting. It’s a fact Ben can hardly comprehend.

“To say that Michael is a natural actor is the greatest understatement,” he enthuses. “I’m trying to figure out why he’s so good when he’s relatively inexperienced. I think it’s because he’s always loved comedy and TV and film. He’s [also] kind of got comedy in his bones.

“In addition, he’s one of those incredibly empathetic people, so he really connects with characters and understands what makes them tick. I think that shows on screen. He’s a joy to work with.”

The post Home and Away spoilers: Could this be the beginning of the end for Irene? appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
After years of living a sober life, Irene gives into her demons and races towards her biggest kryptonite this week on Home and Away; alcohol.

Still grappling with guilt, Irene (Lynne McGranger) is holing herself up in her home away from the world as the consequences of her actions with scammer Bronte (Stefanie Caccamo) run rampant in her head.

Irene looks lost as she attempts to have breakfast alone.
Already feeling the guilt of the scam, an utterly lost Irene now feels worse for drinking. (Credit: Channel Seven)

She almost willingly bankrupted herself and her business which she co-owns with her best friend Leah (Ada Nicodemou), and Dana (Ally Harris) could have been killed after she was kidnapped by the scammers and held in a shipping container!

How did she let Bronte pull the wool over her eyes so much?

“Irene has always prided herself on being a great judge of character,” Lynne, 71, tells TV WEEK.

“And of course, with Bronte, this has gone completely down the toilet.”

Irene's friend John (Shane Withington) attempts to comfort her at her home.

Unable to get out of bed, a concerned John (Shane Withington) comes to check on her when she fails to show up for work, but when his attempt at comfort inadvertently upsets her, she swiftly kicks him out and runs to a secret stash of whisky she had been hiding under the sink.

Despite every intuition telling her not to, Irene pours herself a drink and throws it back.

And then a second one for good measure.

Irene is officially off the wagon.

“The shame and despair that she feels is why she goes back to alcohol because it’s an escape for her as most alcoholics know,” adds Lynne.

A bottle down, Irene then makes her way into the coffee cart, where a puzzled Leah and Marilyn (Emily Symons) are shocked to see her fumbling around the place. And when she interferes with Dana and Xander (Luke Van Os), who are having a conversation about their relationship, it’s clear to everyone around her that something is very wrong with Irene.

Irene (Lynne McGranger) goes for a bottle of whiskey she had stashed under the sink.

While Irene has a troubling history with alcohol abuse, she’s always managed to come back from it with the help of her friends. However, will the guilt of Bronte’s scam prove too much for Irene this time, and will it be the final straw that pushes her over the edge?

It was a tragic story that ensnared the international community when the incident first happened in 2021. Now, people from around the globe are tuning in to watch the trial held in the Santa Fe County District Courthouse live online and on TV, captured by court TV cameras.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer’s has planned for the trial to end on July 19 – but as for the jury will deliberate on the verdict remains unknown.

Below we answer some of your burning questions regarding the case, including where to watch Alec Baldwin’s trial in Australia.

Why is Alec Baldwin in court?

On October 21, 2021, Alec was handed a Colt .45 by Rust assistant director David Halls which was supposedly checked to be safe – which David later testified that he hadn’t checked it properly.

It is alleged that while in rehearsal for a scene, Alec pointed the weapon at the camera when it suddenly fired and a live round hit Halyna Hutchins, wounding director Joel Souza. Joel recovered, while Halyna was pronounced dead hours later.

Alec alleged he did not pull the trigger, but the weapon fired on its own. However, FBI and independent forensic investigators have said the gun couldn’t fire without the trigger being pulled.

In the case, Alec has been charged with involuntary manslaughter (negligent use of a firearm) and involuntary manslaughter (without due caution or circumspection), without bail for more than two and a half years. If found guilty, Alex could go to jail and be charged with a fine.

Where to watch the livestream of Alec Baldwin’s trial in Australia:

The trial has been streamed live via many YouTube channels. Day One has concluded, and we suspect there will be eight more days in the trial if the proceeding aligns with the Judge’s schedule.

Australian’s interested in the case can stream the case – including what has already been shown – on Court TV, LiveNOW from Fox, and Law&Crime Network.

Murder mystery lovers have a lot to look forward to when it comes to the second season of The Twelve, not to be confused with the SBS drama of the same name.

The courtroom drama follows 12 ordinary Australians from diverse backgrounds chosen to carry out jury duty for a murder case and how their lives are turned upside down in the process.

But don’t be mistaken, this is no ordinary mystery.

The series proudly pushes the genre further than ever before by taking on the classic murder mystery story and giving it a modern update.

Featuring an ensemble cast, the series stars big names including Sam Neill as defender Brett Coldy, Kate Mulvany as the accused Kate Lawson, and Marta Dusseldorp as prosecutor Lucy Bloom.

Meanwhile Brendan Cowell stars as Garry, Hazem Shammas as Farrad, Pallavi Sharda as Corrie, and Ngali Shaw as Jarrod, all of whom are members of the jury.

However, the cast list doesn’t end there!

Actors Brooke Satchwell, Jenni Baird, Matt Nable, Toby Blome, Warren Lee, Coco Jack Gillies, and Silvia Colloca, among others, also star in The Twelve.

The post Where are the original cast members of Grey’s Anatomy now? appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
While the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy has not yet concluded, it feels like a life-time ago little Meredith Grey entered the halls at Seattle Grace Hospital as an intern – 19 years ago to be precise.

In 2005, the pilot episode released where we met the Grey’s Anatomy OG characters including Meredith, Richard Webber, Miranda Bailey, Alex Karev, Derek Sheperd, Cristina Yang, Isobel Stevens and George O’Malley.

Grey’s Anatomy will be releasing its 20th season in March 2024. Given the countless characters and cast members who have found themselves on set of Grey’s Anatomy, is it only necessary TV Week recounts where these cast members are now.

Stream Grey’s Anatomy on Disney Plus from $13.99/mth.

Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey

Fresh faced Meredith Grey walked into Seattle Grace hospital as an intern, discovering the man she slept with, Derek Shepherd aka McDreamy, was her superior.

In September 2018, Ellen confessed to Entertainment Weekly that she had “played this out for everything that I possibly could.”

“I’ve given it 200 percent of my energy and my love and my time and my commitment and my dedication… I still care very much about the show, and I think that it takes a lot of energy. So at some point I have to wrap it up.”

However, the actress seemed to have a change of heart a month later when she suggested to Ellen DeGeneres that she would be staying on the show.

“And, you know, these numbers — there’s just no end in sight with streaming, and the show is so popular. I gotta keep doing it, man, because we’re touching lives and making a difference.”

In 2023, Ellen bid farewell to the series, telling Drew Barrymore: “Listen, it’s just, I gotta mix it up a little bit.”

Following her leave, Ellen moved on to star and produce Hulu limited series based on the 2009 horror film Orphan.

Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang

Cristina Yang held a special place in fan’s hearts as the highly intelligent, no-nonsense intern who would do anything to succeed – and it was this ambition that made her incredible to watch.

Cristina left the hospital for a medical research institute in Switzerland in season ten. Sandra left it was time to pursue other opportunities, in which she then received her second Golden Globe Award for her performance in Killing Eve.

Following her departure, Sandra revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in 2014 that she would be open to returning to Grey’s Anatomy for its finale.

“I told [Shonda], “If you guys want to finish it out however you want to finish it out, I’d be more than happy to come back,” she said. “And if it doesn’t fit in that way, I totally understand. I just want you to know that I’m available. Who knows! I might be doing something fabulous, and it might not work out, but I did say, ‘Yes, of course, I would.'”

Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery Shepard

Addison strutted into the hospital determined to save her marriage with Derek – to Meredith’s disappointment. While we wanted McDreamy and Meredith to be together, Addison earned a place in everyone’s heart.

After a failed attempt to save her marriage, Addison left and got her own spin-off, Private Practice which ran for six seasons.

Kate was very successful following her Grey’s role as she went on to star in Emily in Paris, The Umbrella Academy, 13 Reasons Why and Fargo.

Katherine Heigl as Isobel Stevens

Through hard work and her stunning appearance, Izzie worked hard to pay her way through medical school and become an intern. It was a life full of twist and turns for Izzy, who later developed brain cancer and left the show after season six.

Katherine’s departure from the show was incredibly rocky, and reportedly unintentionally burned bridges after withdrawing her name from an Emmy nomination feeling she wasn’t “given the material to warrant” a nomination.

Following her exit, Katherine starred on Suits, Killers, New Year’s Eve, One for the Money and many more.

Dubbed 007 for his license to kill, George was a kind-hearted boy completely head over heels for Meredith.

His death was arguably one of the more brutal character deaths to ever happen on Grey’s Anatomy. When the badly injured and unrecognisable patient was brought into the hospital, it broke everyone’s heart when the ‘unidentifiable’ man scribbled 007…

After five years, George left the show but made a shock return in December 2020 for an episode.

T.R. went on to star in The Good Wife, The Catch, Genius: Einstein and Genius: Picasso.

Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd

Very quickly, Derek Shepherd received the nickname Dr McDreamy after what was supposed to be a one-night stand.

In one of the most heartbreaking moments on Grey’s, Derek was hit by a car while helping the victims of a crash.

Speaking of his death, writer Shonda Rhimes said: “Meredith and Derek’s love had to remain Meredith and Derek’s love. As painful as it was for me as a storyteller, because I had never really thought that was going to happen, it preserved what felt true to me, which was that Derek was going to have to die in order for that love to remain honest.”

Patrick, however, has starred in Disenchanted, Bridget Jone’s Baby, Sweet Home Alabama, Valentine’s Day and more. In 2023, he was made People’s Sexiest Man Alive!

Justin Chambers as Alex Karev

Alex started as an over-confident intern with little care for others emotional well-being, but he grew in viewers hearts as he developed – confronted by some major storylines.

After 16 seasons, Justin exited the medical drama in 2020.

“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” he said in a 2020 statement to Deadline.

“For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”

Following his departure, Justin starred in the TV mini series, The Offer in 2022.

No-nonsense Dr. Bailey was one of the most brilliant minds at the hospital. Thankfully for viewers, Chandra had no plans to depart the series.

“I used to say, ‘I’m there until the wheels fall off until the very, very end, and it can’t last that much longer, right?’ And then we keep going,” she told People. “For now, I’m challenging myself to be there until the very last episode, the very last day, the very last scene.”

The world couldn’t peel their eyes away from Gypsy Rose Blanchard in 2016 when she was sentenced 10 years in prison for her role in the death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.

After serving seven years of that sentence, in December 2023 Gypsy Rose was released on parole.

Since, Gypsy Rose – now 32 years old – has been sharing content to various social media platforms, and once again, the world cannot take their eyes off her as she gains millions of followers.

What happened to Gypsy Rose Blanchard?

Dee Dee Blanchard allegedly convinced her daughter, Gypsy Rose was disabled and needed a wheelchair, suffering from numerous medical conditions which required surgery and further support. However, Gypsy Rose required none of this, she could in fact walk and was in good health.

It was alleged by investigators that Dee Dee had suffered from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.

In 2016, Gypsy Rose was sentenced for second-degree murder after her mother was fatally stabbed in June 2015 by Gypsy’s then-secret boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn.

Nicholas’ trial wasn’t held until November 2018, sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 25 years for armed criminal action.

Where to watch the Gypsy Rose Blanchard documentary?

Mommy Dead and Dearest is a critically acclaimed and popular documentary released in 2017, explores the relationship between the mother and daughter with one of psychology’s most controversial conditions – Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

Those interested can watch Mommy Dead and Dearest in Australia on Binge.

This true-crime documentary isn’t singular, Gypsy Rose’s story also inspired the eight-part drama series The Act (2019) starring Joey King which is available for streaming in Australia on Binge.

Her story has also been told in the 2019 documentary Gypsy’s Revenge, which is currently not available for streaming in Australia.

As of 2024, yet another documentary about Gypsy Rose has been release Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up. However, this story takes a look at Gypsy living life as a free woman outside of prison, reconnecting with her family and friends, and living with her at-the-time husband, Ryan Anderson. Unfortunately, this series is not currently available for streaming in Australia.

Who is Gypsy Rose married to now?

While Gypsy Rose was serving her prison sentence, she became pen pals with Ken Urker and were engaged in October 2018, before calling it quits in mid-2019. The reason for their breakup at the time remains unknown, however, Gypsy revealed all will be told in her docuseries, Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up.

“Our prison wedding was just something to where we can make our vows to each other. It was something that meant something to us. And I think the party is kind of for everybody else,” she told People in 2022.

However, in March 2024, Gypsy confirmed their split in a Facebook post just three months after her release from prison. Days later, she was spotted out with Ken with their romance confirmed in April.

“After reconnecting earlier this month, we realized that our love for each other is simply undeniable, and life is too short to not take a chance,” Gypsy told TMZ at the time.

Gypsy and Ken are not married as of yet, but they are expecting their first child together in January 2025.

“I know the rumours have been flying around for quite some time now and I’m happy to announce that I am 11 weeks pregnant,” she revealed on her YouTube channel. “This was not planned at all, it was completely unexpected.”

Running a grimy sandwich joint is no easy feat. Opening up a new restaurant, however, is even harder as we learnt in season three of The Bear.

While season one found its cult following with the show’s lead, Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), as he inherits his brother’s sandwich shop following his death, seasons two and three reach new heights as he attempts the unthinkable: turn the family-owned restaurant into a next-level spot.

Showcasing the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership while introducing strong-willed and colourful kitchen staff, not to mention the ins and outs of strained familial relationships, the audience gets a real taste of the highs and lows of working in hospitality.

And, fans will be pleased to know The Bear been renewed for a fourth season. Here, we gather all the details of the hit show, including where to stream it.

Where can I watch The Bear in Australia?

You can stream all seasons of The Bear now on Disney+ in Australia with a subscription of $13.99 per month, or $139.99 per year.

Season four will also be available on the streaming service when it airs. More details to come.

Who is cast in The Bear?

The Bear stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmy, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Carmy’s cousin ‘Richie’, Ayo Edebiri as sous chef Sydney, and Abby Elliott as Carmy’s sister ‘Sugar’.

Joining them in recurring roles as kitchen staff are Lionel Boyce as Marcus, Liza Colón-Zayas as Tina, Edwin Lee Gibson as Ebraheim and Matty Matheson as ‘Fak’.

The series has gained a cult following. (Credit: FX/Disney)

Why is The Bear series so popular?

Having racked up numerous awards in its first season, including being honoured as an AFI TV Program of the Year, as well as a WGA Award, PGA Award, Film Independent Spirit Award, American Cinema Editors Award and ACE Eddie Award, the critically acclaimed series is popular for many reasons.

For starters, there are no filters in The Bear. What you see is what you get, and what you get is total and utter chaos fuelled by dysfunctional relationships and even more dysfunctional people – yet rooting for them all the same.

“The entire time I felt like I was watching Masterchef, The Sopranos and Gilmore Girls at the same time. It’s so dynamic, so expressive, without any fillers, no-nonsense, everything said and done had a purpose,” said one reviewer on Reddit.

“It’s a family/friendship drama, a comedy, an uplifting story and a culinary show all at the same time. And it works.”

Where are the cast of Blue Heelers today? https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/where-are-the-cast-of-blue-heelers-today-76255/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 04:03:43 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/tv/where-are-the-cast-of-blue-heelers-today-76255 It's been nearly 20 years since the last episode aired....

The post Where are the cast of Blue Heelers today? appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Blue Heelers may have finished airing in 2006, but that doesn’t mean the love for this iconic Aussie soap has lessened.

The police drama series depicted the everyday lives and relationships of Mount Thomas, a fictional small town in Victoria, and is one of the highest rated and most awarded programs in the history of Australian television, having won an impressive 25 Logie Awards.

In fact, the show is equal as the most awarded show in Logies history on par with the Don Lane Show.

So, after 13 seasons, and 510 episodes, what are the cast of Blue Heelers up to today, some 16 years after the final episode aired?

John Wood

John said that whilst he doesn’t regret his time as a television actor, it wasn’t where he saw his career going…

(Credit: IMAGE: Getty)

Since Blue Heelers wrapped up in 2006 and John hung up his badge as Senior Sergeant Tom Croydon, the seasoned actor has starred in a number of TV shows which include the likes of Offspring, Neighbours and even Underbelly!

But as his television career came to an end, John revealed his indifference to his former livelihood.

“Television was of no interest to me,” he told A Current Affair in 2020. “I always wanted to be an actor, but my idea of an actor was working in the theatre.”

In August 2020, his memoir, How I Clawed My Way Back to the Middle was also published.

Not long after, the Gold Logie award winning actor wrote a new comedy, set in a retirement village. Speaking to our sister publication New Idea in 2022, John called the comedy ”fantastical” and ”spiritual” when he also revealed worked in conjunction with Blue Heelers alumni Lisa McCune and Max Gillies on the project.

“It’s set in a retirement village originally set up by a comedian for ageing actors. We did a reading of it two weeks ago, and it was great. Everybody loved it,” he said.

“The good thing about ageing is I have all these people who have been friends for the past 50 years working in the industry.”

Julie Nihill

Julie has kept herself busy since her time on Blue Heelers!

(Credit: IMAGE: Getty)

As the owner of the Heelers local pub, the Imperial Hotel, Julie’s character Chris was often on hand to help the police officers blow off some steam after work – as well as help them solve a case or two.

Since her time on Blue Heelers, Julie starred in Picnic at Hanging Rock, How to Stay Married, House Husbands and Neighbours.

As of 2023, Julie is semi-retired but offers self help courses to ‘transform health, relationships, career and finances’ through her website and also runs her own production company, EarthStar Films.

Martin Sacks

Australia fell in love with Martin’s portrayal of PJ.

(Credit: IMAGE: Getty)

PJ was one of Australian television’s most beloved characters, facing loss after loss on the long running cop drama, PJ stole (and then broke) the hearts of viewers across the country.

But forget PJ, what is Martin Sacks up to nowadays?

After ‘cut’ was called on his final Blue Heelers scene, Martin starred in a number of iconic Aussie dramas including the likes of Underbelly, Sea Patrol and Wentworth.

Lisa McCune

(Credit: IMAGE: Getty)

Lisa went from strength to strength after her time on Blue Heelers as Maggie Doyle, the local cop who reluctantly fell in love with her workmate.

After her character was killed off, Lisa went on to star in action packed drama Sea Patrol, which aired from 2007 – 2011 on the Nine Network.

She’s earned an impressive collection of awards across her 30 plus year career including ten Logie Awards, four of them Gold for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television.

The screen actor is also well known for her theater performances, including time in leading Opera Australia roles. Her latest theater role was as Elizabeth Laine in Girl from the North Country at the Sydney Festival, and then in Adelaide and Melbourne.

Unfortunately her personal success has seen some heartbreak.

After marrying Blue Heelers film technician Tim Disney in 2000, Lisa had three children, Archer, Oliver and Remy. However, the pair have unfortunately split with Lisa having confirmed to the Australian Women’s Weekly in 2021 that she was “happily single” and would co-parent their children.

In 2024, Lisa returned to screen but in a very different way than ever seen before – pulling out her best moves on Dancing With The Stars Australia

William McInnes

William has written a number of books since his time on Blue Heelers came to an end.

(Credit: IMAGE: Getty)

During his time on Blue Heelers, William played heartbroken Senior Constable Nick Schultz who joined the force after his wife and daughter were killed in a car accident.

William went on to star in SeaChange, East West 101, Deep Water, Rake and Total Control.

He also wrote a bunch of books including A Man’s Got to Have a Hobby, Cricket Kings, The Making of Modern Australia and even a regular column called ”William Tells” for the Australian Women’s Weekly.

And for those looking to bring a little bit (or a lot) of William into your workplace, William also offers corporate speaking, for a fee of course!

Damian Walshe-Howling

Damian has maintained a relatively low profile since leaving the show.

(Credit: IMAGE: Getty)

This former heartthrob played keen, young cop Adam Cooper in the series.

After leaving Blue Heelers, Damian went on to star in Underbelly, soap drama The Time Of Our Lives and horror film The Reef.

His last on screen appearance was in 2020 for Australian science fiction film 2067.

Tasma Walton

Tasma is now married to fellow television star Rove McManus.

(Credit: IMAGE: Getty)

Since leaving Mount Thomas in 2006 and her role of Dash McKinley behind her, Tasma has been a busy girl, starring in a number of TV shows including City Homicide, Cleverman, Rake and Mystery Road.

She is also happily married to comedian and TV host Rove McManus who she wed in 2009.

The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Ruby, in December 2013.

House of the Dragon follows a war of succession during one of the most powerful dynasties in the Game of Thrones universe, House Targaryen.

We loathe the power-hungry characters and love those with an inkling of redeemable qualities, but the actors behind the overall deceptive characters are far different in real life.

There are some loved-up moments in House of the Dragon
(Image: HBO)

Like its predecessor, House of the Dragon is set in Westeros, guiding viewers through the familiar King’s Landing and Dragonstone. However, it is set roughly 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.

On screen, viewers see the intricate architectural designs and epic dragons. But behind the scenes of House of the Dragon is a very different environment – sorry, but the dragons aren’t real… in fact we wonder how the actors keep a straight face.

With Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen)), Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Fabian Frankel (Sir Criston Cole), Eve Best (Princess Rhaenys) and many more cast members on set, there are bound to be some hilarious moments.

With season two gearing up for a major return, we have gathered some of the best photos of the cast behind the scenes on House of the Dragon because there is something brilliant about seeing these actors wearing sunglasses while donned in medieval clothing.

A cheeky BTS snap of Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy in the makeup chair.

We didn’t realise stripy socks were trending in Westeros?

“Postcard from driftmark,” Emma wrote.

Shame, shame Sir Criston. No sleeping on the job!

Did Sir Criston finally convince Rhaenyra to leave behind all “the burdens and the dignities of [her] inheritance”? We highly doubt it.

Can you name something cuter?

Sorry to burst your dragon bubble, but its all CGI.

Just a casual moment in the throne room.

“A+R forever.”

What is Morning Wars about?

Morning Wars explores the cutthroat world of morning news and the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning.

In season three, the future of the network was thrown into question and loyalties were pushed to the brink when a tech titan took an interest in UBA – the fictional news network.

Unexpected alliances formed, private truths were weaponised and everyone was forced to confront their core values both in and out of the newsroom.

As for season four, no information about the storyline has been released by Apple TV+ yet. However, if the end of the third season is anything to go off, season four will likely focus on the aftermath of the merger between UBA and NBN.

Who is cast in Morning Wars?

Along with Aniston and Witherspoon, the star-studded season three ensemble cast was led by Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee, Jon Hamm, Nicole Beharie, and Julianna Margulies.

In season four, it’s reported that majority of the cast are likely to reprise their roles. According to Deadline, Jeremy Irons will be joining the show for the upcoming season, appearing as Alex Levy’s father. Marion Cotillard is also tipped to be joining the cast as Celine Dumont, a “savvy operator from a storied European family.”

In case you haven’t noticed, Deadloch has fast become a zeitgeisty title in the world of streaming, with fans and critics alike singing its praises.

To prove it, Prime Video’s critically acclaimed series has officially reached the Certified Fresh status on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 100 per cent score from critic reviews and an 89 per cent audience score.

A uniquely Australian show – in culture, humour and slang – it’s no wonder that the crime-comedy has found a growing audience of passionate fans globally (and locally, of course). And, the series has officially been renewed for another season.

At the 2024 AACTA Awards on The Gold Coast last year, we spoke with the creators Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan to find out about season two.

“I mean, it’s pretty obvious from the way season one ended that we’re gonna head up north,” McClennan told TV WEEK when discussing possible storylines for another season.

“We’re just really happy to be basking in the success of season one,” added McCartney.

So, if you’d like to see what all the hype is about then read for everything you need to know about Deadloch, including where to watch it in Australia.

What is Deadloch about?

The series takes place in a Tasmanian town called Deadloch; a once sleepy seaside hamlet that is left reeling when a local man turns up dead on the beach.

Two female detectives are thrown together to solve the case: Fastidious local senior sergeant Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and a rough-as-guts blow-in from Darwin, senior investigator Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) along with their overeager junior constable Abby (Nina Oyama).

As the town prepares to launch the annual arts, food, and culture event – Winter Feastival – the trio have to put their differences aside and work together to find the killer.

“Chock full of witty sarcasm, zany characters, and a cast that looks like they’re having a blast Down Under!” one rave reviewer described the show.

“Could not love this series more!! Phenomenal from start to finish. Makes my entire Prime subscription worth it!” added another.

Will there be a second season of Deadloch?

Season two was officially confirmed in July 2024 by Prime Video, with production on the six-part second season to commence later this year.

Fans can expect to see the return of Kate Box and Madeleine Sami as Dulcie and Eddie, as the detective duo head up to Darwin to investigate the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy.

But when the bodies of two Top End icons are discovered in a remote town, they are flung into a new sweatier, stickier investigation.

The post ‘Little House on the Prairie’ turns 50: Secrets from the set! appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Little House on the Prairie was the ultimate feel-good family show but behind the scenes there was plenty of drama.

From onscreen clashes to secret affairs and even a star with a serious drinking problem, life wasn’t always easy for Ma and Pa Ingalls and their family!

To celebrate 50 years of Little House on the Prairie, we’re catching up with the stars of the show to take a walk down memory lane and find out what really happened on Walnut Grove…

LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE SECRETS!

Little House on the Prairie's Michael Landon and Cindy Clerico fell in love on set.

MICHAEL’S WILD LOVE LIFE

Karen Grassle, who played Ma Ingalls, recalled how Michael Landon used to boast about his libido on set. She soon discovered why – he was having an affair with 18-year-old actress Cindy Clerico, who was 20 years his junior.

The relationship rocked the cast, with most of them good friends with Michael’s wife, Lynn. When Lynn discovered the affair, she followed the pair to their secret love nest and threw a bottle of vodka at Michael’s head.

Michael eventually married Cindy but his nice-guy image was ruined forever.

Little House on the Prairie's Alison and Melissa were best friends.

LOVE YOUR ENEMIES

Life didn’t imitate art for stars Melissa and Alison, who played enemies on the show but were besties off it!

“Here’s Melissa Gilbert and I playing mortal enemies, beating each other senseless all week,” says Alison Arngrim, who played schoolyard bully Nellie Oleson to Melissa’s Laura Ingalls Wilder.

“And then on the weekends, we’d go to each other’s houses for a slumber party.”

The women also bonded over not liking Melissa Sue Anderson.

“You have three teenage girls at the worst of the pre-teen years, and you’re thrown into this thing and you’re in competition, we’re child stars… I’m amazed we didn’t kill each other,” says Alison of their long-running feud.

FEUDING ON SET!

Tensions ran high between Michael and Karen, aka Pa and Ma Ingalls. Karen had a drinking problem, which wasn’t helped by the bar on set. She later admitted to and became sober, with her father sadly dying of alcoholism.

They also clashed over pay and Michael refused Karen’s request for a raise, saying her earnings should be in line with the child actors.

“I felt insulted as his co-star on a hit series… I expected a fair wage,” said Karen, who began to be left out of scenes and storylines.

He also mocked her, especially in their bedroom scenes. “As a woman in the 1970s film industry,

I was so accustomed to these putdowns.”

Katherine MacGregor told people what she thought.

PRAIRIE’S MOST AWKWARD!

Katherine MacGregor, who played Harriet Oleson, let it be known that she had studied acting in New York with famous acting coach Sanford Meisner – and imparted her wisdom to everyone!

“Most actors do not do this, certainly not unrequested,” Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson, says.

“I’ve never seen anybody do it to this extent, not before or since. She was quite insistent and would tell people they were ‘doing it wrong’.”

Michael liked Clairol nice'n easy.

MICHAEL’S PURPLE MANE!

He was the show’s designated heartthrob, but the late Michael Landon’s silky mane had already gone grey by the time he was in his 20s.

His saviour? Home dye job Clairol Medium Ash Brown.

Everything was smooth sailing until the scorching California sun began to give his bottle-brown mane a purple glow and they had to call in the professionals to fix it!

Ma's homecooked meals were finger-licking good!

MA’S HOME COOKED MEALS!

Food was a huge deal for the Little House On The Prairie stars.

On screen, Ma Ingalls’ dinners came from their own flock but in reality it arrived in a bucket from KFC!

Melissa Gilbert (aka Laura) says it turned her into a chicken fanatic and it’s her favourite dish to cook. “All my friends ask for the recipe!”

Little House on the Prairie's Alison Arngrim, Leslie Landon, Karen Grassle, Wendi Lou Lee, Melissa Sue Anderson and Matthew Labyorteaux reunited at the 63rd Monte Carlo TV Festival.

PRAIRIE REUNION!

Alison Arngrim, Leslie Landon, Karen Grassle, Wendi Lou Lee, Melissa Sue Anderson and Matthew Labyorteaux reunited at the 63rd Monte Carlo TV Festival last month to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the show!

Some of the cast hadn’t seen each other since the show ended in 1983.

The cast shared which keepsakes they took from the set, with Karen revealing her hairdresser gave her Caroline’s hair!

Matthew, who played the Ingalls’ adopted son Albert, said Michael gave him a chunk of wood from the final episode when the town was blown up.

The post Why the versatile Virginia Gay is so thrilled to be part of comedy sensation Colin from Accounts appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
There’s a moment in the fourth episode of Colin From Accounts where stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer appear to almost break character and laugh at the utter hilariousness that is Virginia Gay.

In the scene, Ashley (Harriet) and Gordon (Patrick) are having dinner with their friend Megan (Emma Harvie), who has brought along her new girlfriend Rumi (Virginia) – who promptly hijacks the entire evening with pompous anecdotes of her travels.

(Credit: Binge)

It’s a lightning-in-a-bottle scene – thanks in large part to Virginia’s performance – and one the actress admits best illustrates just how fun the show was to film.

“It’s the happiest set I’ve ever been on,” Virginia, 42, tells TV WEEK. “It’s probably my favourite show in the entire world, and you never, ever get to walk onto the set of your favourite show. It feels like my 14-year-old heart walking onto the set of Buffy [The Vampire Slayer].”

She attributes that “pure joy” to its cast and crew – in particular, the show’s “generous” creators Patrick and Harriet, who she calls “comedy geniuses”.

And the feeling is mutual, with Harriet revealing she and Patrick had Virginia in mind when writing the character of Rumi, and even allowed her the freedom to ad-lib much of her dialogue.

(Credit: Supplied)

As experienced as Virginia is – she’s done everything from comedy to drama to reality TV – you’d think this is the type of thing that would happen all the time for her. The actress begs to differ.

“That’s extremely sweet, but no,” she says. I’m still very much auditioning [for roles]. The beautiful thing about auditioning is that 98 per cent of jobs you go for, you don’t get. So you have to be OK with that. It’s tough, especially when you’re starting out, but it’s good for the soul to be OK with it.”

While she may have missed out on a few roles, she’s landed some significant ones too, perhaps most notably nurse Gabrielle Jaeger in the early noughties hospital drama All Saints, which she landed when she was 24 and still studying.

“I had a pretty strong case of imposter syndrome for several years [in All Saints],” Virginia reveals. “It was very much like, ‘Why should it be me who got this [role] out of all the talented people in my class?’ I was ready for it to be taken away at any minute.”

(Credit: Supplied) (Credit: Supplied)

She adds that the fact that she’s remained close to some of her All Saints co-stars – such as Wil Traval (who played Jack), Celeste Barber (Bree) and Andrew Supanz (Bartholomew) – “is testament to how close we were and how lucky we were to have each other in that time”.

Fast-forward nearly two decades and Virginia is booked and busy and shows no sign of slowing down. This year alone, she’s become artistic director for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, will be taking her acclaimed gender-flipping play Cyrano to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, and has been busy developing a new dark comedy for TV.

And does she feel exhausted? Never.

“I feel so exhilarated by it all,” Virginia enthuses. “I feel so honoured and humbled. I just love what I do.”

Hotel Cocaine follows the saga of Miami’s most infamous hotel https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/hotel-cocaine/ Sun, 07 Jul 2024 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=518737 Miami Vice.

The post Hotel Cocaine follows the saga of Miami’s most infamous hotel appeared first on Now To Love.

While the Mutiny Hotel at the centre of Hotel Cocaine still exists in Miami, Florida, it’s a far cry from the hedonistic playground – of the rich, the famous and the criminally inclined – it used to be in the 1970s and ’80s.

“In its heyday, it really was a den of iniquity,” Cuban-American actor Yul Vazquez, 59, tells TV WEEK. “Now, it’s a shell of what it once was, but it’s still there.”

The adrenaline-fuelled eight-part series follows the manager of the Mutiny Hotel, Cuban exile Roman Compte (Danny Pino). He’s chosen an honest life, working to achieve the American Dream.

His brother Nestor Cabal (Yul), meanwhile, takes the dangerous shortcut of selling cocaine to a starving market, and makes huge profits in the process.

On separate paths, the siblings haven’t spoken for a long time – until Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Zulio (Michael Chiklis) forces Roman to spy on his estranged brother so they can gather evidence against him.

Filled with sharp shootouts, racy dance scenes and of course, plenty of cocaine consumption, some of the more decadent scenes from the past ring true.

“There was a bathtub filled with Dom Pérignon [vintage Champagne] that really happened,” Yul reveals. “That was an expensive scene to film.”

With the history of the infamous hotel being a main part of the story, as is how deeply the cocaine trade affected Miami all those decades ago, who better to tell it than two Cuban-Americans from Miami who actually lived through it.

“There was a subculture within the community who trafficked it [cocaine], who made a lot of money from it, who invested in a lot of real estate and developed a lot of the city through it,” Danny, 50, explains.

“You could probably argue that much of Miami was built through it [drugs] – and turned it from a sleepy retirement vacation community to the thriving international metropolis it is today.

“Most Miamians understood that it [cocaine trafficking] was going on, because it was hard not to pay attention to the bodies dropping dead around you, to the skyscrapers going up, and the money being infused into the city – but the majority of us were just living our lives.”

Yul and Danny, who met on the set of police procedural crime drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, are happy to contribute to the growing library of crime dramas that keep us all addicted to our streaming platforms.

“To be able to add an authentic Cuban-American story into the world of dramatised criminality – and to add our thread to this quilt – there might be some substance and even importance in that,” Danny says.

Hotel Cocaine is streaming now on Stan.

Why screen legend Sam Neill loved reprising legal eagle Brett Colby in The Twelve https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/the-twelve-2024-sam-neill-season-two/ Sun, 07 Jul 2024 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=518763 ‘He’s an old rogue.'

The post Why screen legend Sam Neill loved reprising legal eagle Brett Colby in The Twelve appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
If life had taken a different turn, it might well have been Sam Neill SC rather than Sam Neill international acting legend. The 76-year-old star once imagined himself grandstanding in a courtroom and studied a year of law at university in New Zealand.

“I’m a frustrated barrister – I would have quite enjoyed the performative aspect,” Sam explains to TV WEEK. “I’m quite good on my feet.”

(Credit: Binge)

Fortunately, he gets to act out those dreams on the small screen again. He says slipping back into the role of top defence lawyer Brett Colby SC for the second season of Binge’s legal drama The Twelve is like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes.

“I’m completely fond of this character – he’s complex, but a lot of fun to play,” Sam says.

This second season again revolves around a jury and a controversial murder trial. This time, it’s in the rural WA township of Tunkwell. Landowner Bernice Price (Kris McQuade) is found dead at the bottom of her well, with two ex-lovers, her daughter Sasha (Amy Mathews) and Patrick Harrows (Erroll Shand) the suspects. Colby represents Patrick, while Meredith Nelson-Moore SC (Frances O’ Connor) defends Sasha.

Turns out that Colby and Meredith have more in common than just the trial, and the pair’s illicit affair adds another layer of complexity.

(Credit: Supplied)

Sam’s looking relaxed as he chats over Zoom. He was thrilled that a second season got the green light. And he confidently declares the intriguing twists and turns mean it’s an even better series than the acclaimed debut.

He’s also delighted to reunite with Frances. The pair worked together on 2011 film The Hunter alongside Hollywood heavyweight Willem Dafoe.

“I got to know her a lot better on this,” Sam says. “She’s such a sweetheart and is really fun to work with. We have a really complicated relationship in the show. Colby’s an old rogue, really.”

One thing Sam says he doesn’t share with his on-screen alter ego is his voracious appetite for victory. The actor isn’t remotely competitive – in fact, he disapproves of board games. And thinks Monopoly should be banned.

“It teaches that to be winning in life is about acquiring property and charging exorbitant rents – that’s terrible,” Sam shares.

Season one of The Twelve won the 2023 TV WEEK Logie Award for Most Outstanding Drama Series, Miniseries or Telemovie, with Brooke Satchwell winning Outstanding Supporting Actress and Sam taking home the coveted Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor.

He’s still flummoxed that he won a popular vote.

“I hadn’t prepared a thing to say [for an acceptance speech] – but I was very pleased to get it,” Sam says, adding when praised for showing just how well he can do on his feet.

“Look, I might have had one too many drinks. I would have done better with a little more forethought and a little less drinking. Actually, I think that’s good advice for life.”

(Credit: Supplied)

Speaking of drinking, Sam recently shared on Instagram his frustrations at “infuriating corks” as the cork crumbled in a rather expensive bottle of wine.

He laughs as he admits it’s just one in a long list of recent domestic problems – including his washing machine playing up. Yes, he does his own washing – a fact that baffled his US screen agent.

“He said, ‘You’re Sam f**kin’ Neill – you shouldn’t be doing your own laundry,’” Sam recalls. “But it’s one thing I quite like doing, because I’m reasonably competent at it.”

What’s more than competent are the rich Australian stories that are being shared through long-form television, Sam says.

(Credit: Supplied)

“Another one of the great dynamics [in The Twelve] is [how justice can work in] small-town murder,” he says.

“Australia is such a vast and diverse country, and the possibilities of stories are endless here. It’s terribly important to have your own stories – your own murders, even – so that we’re not just looking at comforting British murder tales or violent American murder shows.

“It’s very important that we’re telling our own stories.”

Bronte’s master plan to scam Summer Bay turns violent in Home And Away this week, when her unhinged co-conspirator Chase’s plot to kidnap Dana and hold her in a shipping container reaches a dramatic climax.

Dana’s (Ally Harris) sister Harper (Jessica Redmayne), boyfriend Xander (Luke Van Os) and friend Felicity (Jacqui Purvis) have serious doubts about Bronte’s (Stefanie Caccamo) story that Dana has gone away to a health retreat. It’s just not like her to up and leave without telling anyone.

Dana is pictured running from her captor wearing a yellow jumper and blue shorts with a red car in the background.

And when Dana fails to show up for her beach-patrol duties with John (Shane Withington) the next day, the gang scour the Bay for any sign of her.

Suspecting Bronte has something to do with her disappearance, Xander and John follow her when they spot her driving Irene’s (Lynne McGranger) car. But when they reach a remote quarry and watch Bronte drive slowly down a dirt track, they start to hold grave fears.

Could they have Dana down there?

Meanwhile, in the shipping container, a desperate Dana manages to escape Chase’s (Joshua Mehmet) clutches. But fleeing is one thing, outrunning him in the bush is another, and she isn’t sure how much further she can go.

“Dana is pretty determined to get out of there – for her own survival, but also, there’s no way she’s letting Bronte win,” Ally tells TV WEEK.

Can Xander and John find Dana before Chase and Bronte do, or will the scammers manage to silence yet another victim in their evil scheme?

Ryan Moloney bids farewell to his Neighbours character, ‘Toadie’ in 2024 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/ryan-moloney-leaving-neighbours-2024/ Fri, 05 Jul 2024 00:07:11 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=517753 “Thank you all for the love."

The post Ryan Moloney bids farewell to his Neighbours character, ‘Toadie’ in 2024 appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Beloved Neighbours star, Ryan Moloney will bid farewell to Ramsay Street in late 2024.

Ryan first graced our screens as Jarrod ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi in 1995, and became a Neighbours staple ever since.

“After 30 years playing Toadie, I will be leaving Ramsay Street. I can’t tell you what is happening to the character – maybe I could be the next Jim Robinson. Or maybe I’ll be the next Harold Bishop and keep popping back over the years,” he shared in a Ten statement.

“And although I won’t be bringing you our fantastic storylines from in front of the camera, I will be bringing them to you from the other side, behind the camera. I’ve just started director training and have just finished filming my first episode as director – so I really hope that you enjoy that.”

Ryan continued on to thank all the dedicated Neighbours fans for all the love and support over his three decades on the soap.

“Thank you all for the love that you have shown me and Toadie over the years. Three decades, in fact. I’ll miss you, I’ll miss him, and I’ll miss Erinsborough… but whatever you do, make sure you don’t miss what’s going to happen on Ramsay Street.”

As for exactly when in 2024 Toadie will disappear from our screens is yet to be confirmed. However, the Network only assured it would be an “emotional journey” for him this season.

In July, Ryan teased a “big storyline” would be coming for Toadie has he prepares to exit.

“I’m not going to say if he lives or dies. I’m just going to say it’s a big storyline. It’s not something to be missed,” he said on ITV’s This Morning.

In response to the Neighbours “royalty” departing, its executive producer Jason Herbison commented: “The street won’t be the same without seeing him every week, however there’s every chance he will pop back in the future.

“In the meantime, we’re thrilled to support his directing ambitions and can’t wait for viewers to see how Toadie’s season-long story arc plays out. Ryan’s been instrumental in the journey and has blown us away with his performance.”

The brilliant minds behind Netflix’s Stranger Things are essentially geniuses in how to build anticipation given the huge gap between seasons, but we can confirm the series is halfway through production for its fifth and final season.

In July 2024, co-creator Ross Duffer shared an image to Instagram of the entire cast and crew celebrating Week 24.

“Happy halfway to the best cast and crew ever,” he captioned the image.

Fans haven’t been given much insight into the final season, aside from the Executive Producer Shawn Levy revealing there will be “lost of tears” in the upcoming season – like fans didn’t experience enough torment during the season four finale which aired May 27, 2022.

In the lead up to the fifth season, we’ve gathered everything fans need to know about the final Stranger Things season including premiere date, cast and spoilers.

Robin and Steve are back with their shenanigans for season five.

Stranger Things season five release date:

Prior to the writers strikes, the Duffer Brothers affirmed fans there would be a shorter waiting time than previous seasons three and four which was roughly three years apart.

“The gap should be quite a bit shorter this time, due to the fact that we already have an initial outline, and we can’t imagine there will be another six-month forced hiatus,” naively told Variety in mid-2022.

Protagonist Finn Wolfhard also revealed to GQ that the series would most likely return in early 2025. However, as a result of the countless delays and demanding visual effects, its likely Stranger Things season five won’t hit screens until mid-2025 or early 2026.

Who is the cast for Stranger Things in season five?

Most of the main characters survived season four and were present in the finale.

Therefore, it is safe to assume that majority of the cast will return to their Stranger Things characters for season five. Including Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Mattarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb MacLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Natalie Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley) and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers).

Sadie Sink is in the right hand corner. What role will she play in season five?

(Image: Instagram) (Credit: (Image: Instagram))

However, the biggest question circulating the Stranger Things fandom, is whether or not Sadie Sink will reprise her character as Max Mayfield. After a traumatic season four volume two finale, Max was blinded, and her body left broken after an attack from Vecna – now she lays in a coma she may never wake up from.

Netflix shared a black and white photo of the cast (above), with Sadie sitting in the bottom right corner.

“THIS IS A CODE RED🚨 STRANGER THINGS 5 production has officially begun!!!,” the caption read.

It wasn’t long after this when the Stranger Things official Instagram account shared a behind-the-scenes image of Sadie and Caleb on set – with a radio on the bedside table. Is Lucas still holding on to the hope Max will return?

Sadly, fans bid farewell to Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn, in one of the final episodes.

What is the plot for Stranger Things season five?

Following on from the season four finale, the gang’s final adventure may be their biggest and scariest yet as they attempt to defeat Vecna.

The Duffer Brothers revealed to Collider that the last season will primarily be set in Hawkins and the Upside Down, as opposed to season four which jumped across the world from California, Russia, and Indiana.

“This season – it’s like season one on steroids,” Matt Duffer told The Guardian. “It’s the biggest it’s ever been in terms of scale.”

Matt added the final season will be reminiscent for fans as “the boys and Eleven [will be] interacting more in line with how it was in season one.”

Home And Away welcomes another River Boy with Joshua Orpin https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/home-and-away-joshua-orpin/ Wed, 03 Jul 2024 01:22:10 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=517195 What do we know about the newcomer?

The post Home And Away welcomes another River Boy with Joshua Orpin appeared first on Now To Love.

The River Boys have returned to Home And Away, with newcomer Joshua Orpin leading the charge as the latest bad boy Rory.

Summer Bay residents have met their fair share of River Boys over the years, but viewers will meet the newbie when Mali tracks his brother down to free him from the Allen siblings.

Meet Home and Away’s newcomer.
(Image: Seven)

Rory was first seen with Mali and Dingo (JK Kazzi) and he will no doubt continue to cause chaos in the not-so-quiet town of Summer Bay. In an exclusive chat with TV WEEK, Joshua revealed his character will go beyond what people expect from a typical River Boy.

“Being a River Boy comes with a preconceived notion about who he is based on the fact that he’s a member of a gang that has a legacy. A lot of the exploration of Rory’s character comes down to things such as love and loyalty and how far that loyalty extends,” he explained.

So, what do we know about Joshua Orpin? Well, he isn’t anything like Rory.

“Part of the magic of television is transforming me into a surfer who frequents the beach. But that’s not me at all; it’s not my typical kind of vibe. So, while not wanting to completely dispel the illusion, there’s some fake tan going on,” he told TV WEEK.

Joshua was born and raised in Melbourne Australia, but his career in entertainment meant he travelled across the globe for work.

He starred in Titans.
(Image: DC)

Joshua is best recognised for his role as Conner Kent otherwise known as Superboy in the second season of Titans, a DC Comics’ action-adventure television series. The show was filmed in Canada, where Joshua has previously revealed to 7News he felt “homesick quite a lot.” But Home and Away presented him the opportunity to return home.

“I feel like the US stuff is big and exciting, but I think that I just really had this strong desire to be a part of the Australian film and TV landscape,” he told the publication.

Aside from Titans, the 30-year-old has starred in The Neon Spectrum, and The Blake Mysteries.

And while Joshua is bound to steal hearts as the latest River Boy member, Summer Bay fans will be disappointed to discover someone has already stolen his heart.

Based on an Instagram post, Joshua met his partner Sally in 2014 and celebrated ten years together in April 2024.

“This professional commitment quickly blossomed into a reluctant friendship, and eventually something much more than that… Permanent housemates,” he wrote on Instagram. “10 long years (and 19 contract renewals) later we have never been happier!”

“Gurl are u a 4.5 billion year old oblong spheroid orbiting the sun at 107,000 km per hour? Cause ur my world.”

Heartbreak High’s Thomas Weatherall talks about his darkest role to date https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/stan-exposure-thomas-weatherall/ Tue, 02 Jul 2024 04:01:40 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=518162 Home for the heartache.

In-demand actor Thomas Weatherall returns to our screens in Stan’s dark new thriller, Exposure, a six-part drama that follows photographer Jacs Gould, who returns to her home town of Port Kembla – the industrial port suburb south of Wollongong in NSW – seeking answers after the unexpected death of her best friend Kel.

The series also stars Essie Davis and Victoria Haralabidou, while it was written by Lucy Coleman, directed by Bonnie Moir and produced by Nicole O’Donohue. The production’s powerhouse female talent drew Thomas to the project.

“With the subject, I think it’s integral that it be led by women, and I truly believe they’re some of the best in this industry,” Thomas, 23, tells TV WEEK.

“I’ve been a massive fan of all of them for a long time. It sounds clichéd, but as soon as I started reading Lucy’s scripts, it was one of those moments where it felt like it was the perfect time in my life to explore this character and story.”

Thomas, who plays Angus, Jacs’ (Alice Englert) love interest in Exposure, thrived on the chemistry with Alice.

“I might get in trouble for saying this, but I think Alice is the best actor I’ve been able to work with,” he says. “She truly is a marvel of an artist and person.

Jacs, played by Alice Englert, is fully clothed in a body of water, cradling a camera.

“The chemistry felt immediate from our first Zoom test, which is credit to how vulnerable and open she is as an actor. I was so in awe of how fully she embodied this character, and it made my job very easy to just fall into this sort of relationship our characters shared.”

We’re about to see more of Thomas in the coming months, with the TV WEEK Logie Award winner set to star alongside Jacob Elordi and Simon Baker in drama series The Narrow Road To The Deep North, based on the bestselling 2013 novel by Australian author Richard Flanagan – and will reprise his role of Malakai in 2025 in Heartbreak High’s final season.

The actor says farewelling the show will be “bittersweet”.

“I owe a lot to that job, and have made so many wonderful friendships along the way,” Thomas says.

“It’ll be tough to say goodbye, however, I think it’s the right decision for the show and all involved. I’m excited to see what’s next for everyone after their time at Hartley. I also just don’t think I can keep looking 16!”

Caught red-handed by Logan after secretly rifling through his trailer, Melanie is forced to defend her actions while also coming to terms with what she’s found hidden there.

“It shakes Mel,” Lucinda Cowden, 59, who plays the character, tells TV WEEK.

“Logan [Matthew Backer] is very clever at manipulating the situation and turning things around. She’s worried about who she’s brought into everyone’s lives.”

This week in Neighbours, Melanie continues to show newcomer Logan around Erinsborough. But when he cosies up to Aaron (Matt Wilson), who not long ago lost his husband David (Takaya Honda) after a vicious assault, she notices he seems to have a particular interest in the couple’s history. And after picking up inconsistencies in his story, she begins to have her doubts.

“At first, Mel wants Logan and Aaron to be friends,” Lucinda explains. “But after Logan continues to flirt with Aaron after she’d told him he’s still grieving, she starts to worry what she really knows about him.”

Logan stands in the doorway, catching Melanie going through his belongings.

To assist Aaron with his grief and initiate a fresh start, Logan helps him donate David’s clothes to the Sonya Rebecchi Foundation. But Aaron, suddenly racked with guilt when Andrew (Lloyd Will) comments on the obvious connection between the pair, demands the clothes back – only to learn that a mystery man has already bought them all.

When curiosity gets the better of her, Melanie breaks into Logan’s new home in Erinsborough – and unearths what she suspected she might.

“Finding the bag of clothes is a total red flag for Mel,” Lucinda says. “Her instincts were right – there’s something about Logan that not quite right.”

Just what is Logan’s special interest in Aaron and David?
