It seems everything TV personality and host Sonia Kruger does, she does so with style and grace.

And motherhood has been no exception for the star.

It hasn’t always been easy however, as Sonia struggled to fall pregnant to partner Craig McPherson.

While Craig had six children from a previous relationship, Sonia longed to be a mother herself.

Being over the age of 45, doctors told Sonia her chances of falling pregnant were zero, and the couple’s attempts to conceive both naturally and through IVF were unsuccessful.

“We tried IVF and it wasn’t successful,” she told The Australian Womens Weekly in 2012.

“The doctors were very clear with me too, that for women over the age of 45, which was the age we attempted IVF, the success rate is zero.

“You still believe it can happen, and you see stories, and you think maybe that can happen for us, but the odds are definitely very slim.”

Luckily for Sonia, at the age of 49, a close friend donated an egg and the TV host fell pregnant. Nine months later, she gave birth to her daughter Maggie.

“It has been a long road, but Craig and I are delighted to finally confirm we are having a baby,” she told the Herald Sun when announcing her pregnancy.

Just a year later, Sonia told The Australian Women’s Weekly she would love to have a second child, but is hesitant.

“It’s been such a joy for me, I’m just so happy,” she said of motherhood. “I would love to [have another child] but, I really feel like I shouldn’t push my luck!”

Sonia is content with her gorgeous daughter Maggie and their bond only seems to be getting stronger.

“Luckily for me, she’s pretty measured actually. She’s seven now, so she’s kind of grown out of that phase,” Sonia told Now To Love in July 2022.

“They really do start to mature a little bit when they go to school and we have the best time just hanging out together.”

She also revealed that Maggie is developing an interest in her mum’s glam job – or at least the beauty side of it.

“Little girls, they start to gravitate towards makeup at quite a young age, but I keep saying to her, ‘you don’t need anything, your skin is perfect’,” the doting mum says.

And Maggie is turning into Sonia’s little mini-me, just look at the photos we’ve collected below for proof.

Welcome to the world, Maggie! Sonia announced the arrival of her daughter, born in January 2015 with this cute sneak-peek of her feet.

Not long after, Sonia shared this first snap of the precious bub.

There may not be much room left in the bed for Sonia, but it doesn’t seem like she minds. The Big Brother VIP host captioned this candid photo: “Woke up like this.”

These two know how to holiday in style!

Is it just us or are Maggie and Sonia mother-daughter style goals? The duo are nailing vacation-chic, particularly those cute heart-shaped sunnies.

Sonia and Maggie made a trip to the happiest place on Earth – Disney Land!

It was a white Christmas full of love for the two in 2019.

Trick or treat? We think Maggie and Sonia’s Halloween outfits are super sweet.

We love this colour co-ordination!

Maggie certainly knows how to make mum happy on Mother’s Day! Sonia captioned her photo of this sweet gift: “So I like to ‘eat chocolate’ đŸ« Whatever…I’m only 14.”

Intruder alert! Maggie followed mum to work at the Big Brother house, and we almost wish she’d been allowed to run havoc with the housemates.

Talk about amazing genetics!

With matching outfits this cute, one photo is never enough.

Maggie is a natural on stage just like her mother.

There is nothing like a cuddle from mum.

Sonia posted this pic to celebrate Mother’s Day. She wrote, “Twinning! đŸ‘±đŸ»â€â™€ïžHappy Mothers Day ladies đŸ’•đŸ‘Żâ€â™€ïž.”

Sonia proudly rang in Maggie’s seventh birthday with a sweet video montage featuring her most adorable moments over the years.

She captioned the Instagram post, “Seven years of sunshine â˜€đŸ„ł Happy Birthday Maggie đŸŽ‚â€ #birthday #7.”

Watch the video below.

Supporting our carers: Free resources for carers of older Australians https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/carers-of-elderly/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 09:08:46 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519103 Because you need help and support, too.

The post Supporting our carers: Free resources for carers of older Australians appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
When older family members and loved ones can no longer make decisions for themselves, the role of the carer becomes pivotal in their wellbeing and wishes for the future. This is especially true when dealing with diagnoses like dementia and other life-limiting conditions, when decision making can become the sole burden of the carer, adding to their emotional load.

In this way and so many others, carers frequently sacrifice their own needs, both present and future, to their own detriment. Palliative Care Victoria’s Dignified and Respectful Decisions initiative offers a lifeline, providing free resources that empower carers with the tools and knowledge they need to honour their loved ones’ wishes while also taking care of their own wellbeing.

Palliative Care Victoria’s Dignified and Respectful Decisions (DARD) resources are equipping carers with the knowledge and tools to make crucial, respectful and dignified decisions for loved ones who are no longer able to make decisions themselves.

What palliative care services are available? Spotlight on DARD

Palliative Care Victoria’s groundbreaking “Dignified and Respectful Decisions (DARD)” initiative provides free, invaluable resources to help carers navigate complex care decisions on behalf of loved ones who can no longer make decisions for themselves. Funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and the Victorian Government Department of Health, the free resources inform and support families and substitute decision makers.

Image: Getty

Carers can also gain clarity around the various care plans available, understand how to work with aged cared teams and access wellbeing support articles. There’s also a glossary which includes medical terminology, helpful definitions about advance care planning and directives, end-of-life care terms and other relevant information. These free resources also provide support for carers in their own lives, with detailed self-care and wellbeing strategies to ensure they can continue caring while looking after themselves both now and in the future.

Practical advice on carers self-care

Self-care for carers might seem contradictory, but DARD aims to transform the carer’s experience. The initiative’s free resources are designed to help carers anticipate future challenges and implement effective strategies to support them through this often-challenging journey.

One supportive hint involves building a network of trusted family members or close friends who can assist with some of the caregiving tasks. There are also smart strategies available to help think through various immediate and long-term decisions that need to be made.

Another beneficial tactic that DARD sets out, is to set aside some time each week for activities that feed your soul. This could be as simple as meeting a friend for a movie or going for a walk in your favourite park. Importantly, there are resources to help point carers in the right direction should they feel overwhelmed or just need to discuss their situation.

Collaborative decision making

Carers often find themselves in situations where the values and preferences of their loved ones need to be honoured in the face of complex medical information and choices. It’s in this instance that respectful and considered collaborative decision-making with healthcare professionals is crucial.

DARD’s free resources provide a framework for these essential conversations, ensuring that carers are well-prepared to engage with healthcare teams effectively and respectfully. By leveraging these resources, carers can feel more confident in their discussions with doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers.

They’re empowered to ask pertinent questions, understand the implications of various care options and advocate for the best interests of their loved one. This collaborative approach allows for dignified and respectful decisions, while it helps to lighten the emotional burden carers, as medical decision makers, so often carry.

“I’m such a proud dad:” Larry Emdur may be a larrikin on TV, but when it comes to his family he’s all heart https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/larry-emdur-family-74019/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 06:25:16 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/parenting/celebrity-families/larry-emdur-family-74019 His son Jye is his mini-me!

The post “I’m such a proud dad:” Larry Emdur may be a larrikin on TV, but when it comes to his family he’s all heart appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
TV Week 2024 Gold Logie nominee Larry Emdur is known for his larger-than-television personality, but when it comes to his family, he’s dead serious about his love for them.

His dedication to wife Sylvie and their two kids Jye and Tia knows no bounds, and he made that clear when he got a tattoo of a heart with three arrows going through it in their honour.

The Morning Show host debuted the ink on his Instagram and wrote, “New ink story. My heart with an arrow for Sylvie, an arrow for Jye and an arrow for Tia .. ❀ ❀❀ #Family.”

The proud family man has been married since 1995, but Larry says his wife is his “pillar of strength”.

“I’m sure anyone else would have walked out a thousand times because I’ve been through some pretty terrible times in my job, and I’ve never been able to say to my family, ‘Yes, I guarantee I can feed you or pay the mortgage.’ She’s just been so strong. I adore her,” he gushed to TV WEEK in 2021.

“We spend so much time together. We love each other dearly, desperately. She’s away now for a couple of days, and I can’t sleep. It’s so sad! I’m like a little baby. She’s everything to me.”

Whilst his son Jye works in real estate, while Larry’s daughter Tia has embarked on a career in media just like her dad. During the early days of COVID, she worked at Channel Seven in news but though she didn’t start until after Larry left, he did consider staying back.

“Sometimes I was tempted to just walk past her at the door, wearing a mask, so I could see her,” he said.

Besides making his family smile, Larry is a hit with his son’s friends too!

“There’s a thing now, Jye was telling me, when their friends are going out on a bender, they call it a ‘Larry Emdur’, so I’ve made it!”

See inside Larry’s life with Jye, Tia, and Sylvie to discover the TV host’s soft side.

Larry and Sylvie met when she was a flight attendant, and when the presenter found this throwback, he leapt at the chance to make this joke.

“TBT: Firstly, I can’t believe Sylvie went out with me when I wore that shirt. Secondly, that pressure she’s applying to my penile precinct with her right knee is still her preferred method of getting what she wants.”

He posted this throwback in honour of his son’s 27th birthday.

“I’m not exactly sure where those 27 years have gone . Happy birthday (y’day) to my best buddy in the universe. Jye we’ve still got lots of fun to have and lots of life’s mountains to climb and I’m looking forward to all of it. Thunder buddies for life. #IfNotNowWhen?

â€â€đŸ‘ŠđŸ‘ŠđŸ’ȘđŸ’Ș,” gushed The Morning Show host.

We can see where Jye got his hair from!

Larry loves to gush about Jye on Instagram and we bet this side-by-side collage makes his heart burst.

“You are my co-pilot for life,” wrote Larry for his son’s 28th birthday.

Fathers and sons that suit up together stay together.

Larry’s daughter Tia keeps a lower profile than her brother but when she graduated, her dad had to commemorate the moment by posting this snap.

“Go Tia !!! I’m such a proud dad !!! Look to the Stars, Reach for the Stars, Catch the Stars .. post graduation celebration . So proud of you xxxx #prouddad,” he wrote in his caption.

When Jye left the country to travel, his dad was happy but also sad about him going away.

The TV host posted this picture of him crying on his son’s shoulders and gushed in his caption, “That last hug at the airport is always the toughest.

“I love your passion for travel and adventure Jye, but I hate the way it keeps dragging you away from us for so long each time .stay safe my little buddy, keep the wind at your back and the sand between your toes. Miss you already xx.”

When Larry’s network wouldn’t let him go to the Logies, he posted this defiant picture with his son and cricket legend Michael Clarke.

There is nothing like a father-son lunch…

…or two! They are inseparable.

Larry’s tattoo is just one of many ways he has declared his love for his brood over the years.

His birthday message for his wife is literally husband goals.

“Happy happy birthday you amazing, incredible, sexy, fabulous, awesome, fierce, yummy, humble, perfect human being. In a currently yukky world you are a constant source of love and light for all around you .

“Sylvie I had booked your favourite restaurant in Paris for your birthday dinner but apparently we can’t go so I hope the Devon and sauce toasted sandwich will be ok .. I love you baby doll ❀❀❀❀,” he gushed.

Jye is the spitting image of his famous dad.

If there is one thing Larry is going to do, its gush about his wife on Instagram.

“This is the look of a young goofy dude who somehow just lured the amazing’est and sexiest and coolest woman in the world into his silly life,” he captioned the post above. “Happy Valentine’s Day Sylvie ! just confirming a toasted sandwich and a glass of wine infront of the tv at 6:30pm tonight is an acceptable romantic dinner ?? Xx”

What do we know about Sam Neill’s family? We investigate https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/sam-neill-family/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 01:21:30 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519231 All the details.

The post What do we know about Sam Neill’s family? We investigate appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
The globe fell in love with Sam Neill following his rugged debut in action-adventure franchise Jurassic Park, but Australian’s arguably fell harder for him given his New Zealand origin.

He has no doubt earned his title as one of the more versatile actors in Hollywood – from dodging the vicious jaws of extinct dinosaurs to taking his wits to the court room in his latest Binge drama The Twelve.

But outside of his brilliant career, what do we know about the Kiwi actor?

Sam Neill doesn’t particularly seem interested in the flashing lights that Hollywood has to offer and so maintains a relatively private family life.

The 76-year-old grabbed the attention of his first wife, fellow New Zealand actress Lisa Harrow on the set of 1981 film Omen III. The pair wed in 1981 and were together for roughly 11 years before their unfortunate divorce in 1989.

Sam and Lisa did, however, share a son, Tim Neill born in 1983.

In 1993, Sam exchanged vows for a second time with Japanese film make-up artist Noriko Watanabe.

“We met on Dead Calm. It was on an island with plenty of time on our hands, so I leapt out in pursuit of her,” Sam told The Guardian in 2006. “I met with tremendous resistance for a long time. I got there in the end with dogged persistence.”

Together, they welcomed a daughter Elena in January 1991. In her younger years, Elena starred in some projects including Top of the Lake (2013) and The Brush-off (2004), according to IMDb.

But in 2023, Sam revealed to The Sydney Morning Herald that Elena was a tattoo artist based in Melbourne, Australia.

During his marriage to Noriko, Sam also adopted her daughter, Maiko.

Sam and Noriko were married for nearly 30 years until their divorce in 2017.

It’s all love for former tennis legend and current host of Tipping Point Australia Todd Woodbridge when it comes to family.

He married his wife Natasha in 1995 and together, they have two beautiful adult children Zara, 23, and Beau, 21. Rounding out their family is darling Millie, their Groodle pup.

A FOREVER KIND OF LOVE

While the couple like to keep their private life out of the spotlight, every once in a while, we’re given a glimpse into their sweet love story.

For example, recently, the couple celebrated their 29th anniversary this year, commemorating it with a throwback picture of their wedding day on Instagram. Todd captioned it: 29 years today ❀ Happy Anniversary @natashawoodbridge xxx

Todd and wife Natasha have been married for 29 years. (Image: Instagram)

The 1996 Olympic gold medallist also regularly posts proud dad moments to his social media accounts. While his son and daughter haven’t followed in Dad’s footsteps on the tennis courts, they each lead successful lives in their own right.

Beau, for one, is a rising star who recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Master of Arts degree. There, he’s performed in a number of Broadway-esque musicals. And Todd has been his biggest supporter.

Beau was born to perform. (Image: Instagram)

A PROUD ‘STAGE DAD’

The proud ‘stage dad’ regularly shares pictures from his performances with his 19,000-plus followers. He’s written: “Pretty special seeing @beau.woody up on stage”.

Todd and Natasha’s daughter Zara, on the other hand, is less focused on the stage and more on the greens – both on the golf course and as a nutrition student.

In 2021, the eldest Woodbridge child was crowned Royal Melbourne Women’s Club Champion. A year later, she became the Cathedral Club Champion. Zara also caddied for Gabi Ruffels, a former tennis star who transformed into a pro golf sensation, at the Australian Open.

Zara is into sports like her dad. However, she leans towards golf instead of tennis. (Image: Instagram)

PASSION FOR THE ‘GREEN’

Running a fitness and health instagram page, where she posts ‘all things nutrition, health and fitness’, Zara shares healthy meals and explains the importance of protein in a healthy diet.

And not to forget the sweet family’s beautiful Aussie groodle Millie, even the pup has an instagram account! She’s a star in her own right. Images of the posh pup include Millie in sunnies, running, looking cute and playing with – you guessed it – a tennis ball!

Just when you think the Woodbridge family couldn’t be any more wholesome, they rock up together on Christmas Eve to cuddle on the couch and support ‘dad’ watching the premier of Tipping Point Australia.

In times of hardship, husband Tom Ackerley has been Margot Robbie’s grounding presence https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/celebrity-families/margot-robbie-husband-79771/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 00:17:59 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/parenting/celebrity-families/margot-robbie-husband-79771 Commemorating how their love story came to be.

Some of the celebrity couples we want to know the most about are – more often than not – the ones that are the most private, including Australian sweetheart Margot Robbie and her British film producer husband, Tom Ackerley.

Despite a life in the spotlight, Margot and Tom rarely discuss their relationship publicly aside from the odd interview, being spotted in public and adorable red carpet pictures.

Margot and Tom met in 2013.

(Image: Getty) (Credit: (Image: Getty))

The pair were destined to collide given their careers in the entertainment industry, first meeting in 2013 on the set of Suite Francaise – a World War II drama film. Tom was an assistant director while Margot starred as Celine.

They began dating the following year and even went into business together with Margot’s childhood friend Sophia Kerr and Tom’s colleague Josey McNamara to found LuckyChap Entertainment.

LuckyChap Entertainment has produced award-winning movies including I, Tonya, Promising Young Woman and Barbie.

In December 2016, the couple secretly married in a private ceremony on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Rumours of the wedding began to swirl when Margot donned a t-shirt that read “Say ‘I Do’ Down Under.” The Aussie actress later confirmed the news to a now deactivated Instagram account with a picture of her pear-shaped ring.

“Being married is actually the most fun ever, life got way more fun somehow. I have a responsibility being someone’s wife, I want to be better,” she told Porter in 2018.

For Margot, Tom has become her grounding presence when anxiety overwhelms her. In a 2021 interview with Mirror, Margot revealed her fear while reprising her role as Harley Quinn for the Suicide Squad sequel.

“Even though Harley [Quinn] is a character I have played before, I still got scared before shooting because I’m always nervous to start any job,” she said.

“I have this complete crisis of faith and think, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m not even good at acting, and I can’t do this.’ Every time I do a movie, I turn to my husband, and I’m like, ‘I don’t think I can do this.’ He says something like, ‘You do this every time. You’ll be fine.'”

The lovebirds continue to lead a private life, however, following the Barbie press tour they packed on the PDA while enjoying a relaxing holiday in Greece. And while fans went mad for these photos, it was the pictures of Margot’s baby bump that truly sent the world into a frenzy.

The 34-year-old was spotted boarding a boat in Lake Como in early July, showing off her baby bump in a cropped white t-shirt.

As we wait for the family of two to become three, we’ve gathered all the most adorable and rare images of Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley. Continue scrolling to see.

Speaking with E! News at the Critics Choice Awards, Margot revealed she was “so lucky” to have a ‘normie’ husband.

“He likes being behind the camera, he’s not fazed by any of this stuff, he’s just the best. It’s so fun. I love the word ‘normie’,” she said.

“Like All my friends, everyone’s kind of like, “That’s cool what you do.” But you know, it’s more cool to hang out and talk about other stuff. And you’re like, “I know.”‘

The pairs latest outing saw them together at the 81st Golden Globe Awards in 2024, where Barbie won two awards.

Margot continues to embrace the beautiful Barbie pink while attending the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards in January.

Caught! The Barbie press tour gave fans some epic Margot and Tom moments, particularly this one where the Aussie actress is starring lovingly at her soulmate.

When aren’t these two arm in arm?

Tom must have said a brilliant joke.

Tom and Margot all cuddled-up at the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards in 2020.

PDA alert!

While Margot may not have a personal Instagram account anymore, but her husband Tom thankfully does! He shared this black and white picture of the pair in April 2015.

Who is that in the left corner? A young Margot and Tom with all their friends.

Margot is dazzling in red!

This picture was shared weeks following the release of I, Tonya in 2018.

We’re starting to believe Margot and Tom had a signature pose back in the day, or perhaps an inside joke?

“Great way to bring in 2018!”

Pineapple’s anyone? The cute polaroid was shared roughly six months after their December 2016 wedding.

The younger pair’s fashion debut is no doubt just the start of us seeing more of the high school students.

Best friends Nicole and Naomi have previously admitted that their children are keen to join them in the limelight. “It seems they’ve got the bug,” Naomi, 55, said of her children, including 16-year-old Sasha, who she shares with ex Liev Schreiber, 56.

“Sunday wants to be a director. Through nothing I’ve done, though,” says Nicole, 57. “She’s learned to edit, and if I even offer to be in one of her films, the sense is I’m not getting anywhere near them.”

The budding filmmaker also had cameos in Nicole’s TV shows The Undoing – in 2020 – and Big Little Lies in 2019.

Nicole says she’s enjoying this exciting stage with her daughters. “I love teenage girls. I just find them exquisite,” says the A Family Affair star.

Tom Cruise looked like he didn’t have a care in the world last week, bopping along to Coldplay while at Glastonbury. However, sources say all that could change now his ex-wife Katie Holmes is free of their custodial agreement – and, apparently, very ready to talk.

US media sources confirm the actress, 45, is once again “fielding multi-million-dollar offers” from major news networks, including Oprah Winfrey’s team, for her first sit-down interview about the most explosive Hollywood divorce in history.

“Since Suri turned 18, Katie has been inundated with mind-blowing offers to tell her side of the story,” says an insider. “And she has a lot to say.

“Now that Suri is dealing with her dad directly, everything’s changed for Katie. Although, she’s still unnerved by the thought of doing an interview about things that even privately she’s been unable to fully talk about.”

No one can forget when Katie shocked Scientologist Tom, 61 – and the entire world – with her 2012 stealth-bomb divorce. Yet friends say that she knew she wouldn’t be completely free for another 12 years.

With the help of her lawyer dad, Martin Holmes, Katie made a “miraculous exit” from the marriage with full custody of their daughter Suri. But that tied the actress to a custody deal until Suri turned 18, upon which a new arrangement between Tom and Suri would kick in to cover her college fees, security and general well-being.

“Suri’s birthday was a ‘liberation’ milestone for both of them,” the source says. “For the first time in decades she finally feels free, even in little ways, like not having to see his name in her bank account for custody payments.

“It’s like a weight’s been lifted and she’s ready to open up about her story.”

WHO WILL GET THE SCOOP?

Katie could open up with talk show queen Oprah. (Image: Oprah show)

According to the insider, Oprah would be the ideal person to conduct the long-awaited interview. “She knows Tom and has the skills to handle any conflicts that might arise,” the source explains. “There are still very strict NDAs in place limiting what Katie can and can’t talk about.

“But there are ways of getting around it. Katie would be a fool to not seriously consider these offers.”

However, friends say Katie’s number-one concern will always be Suri. “She would never do anything without Suri’s approval,” adds the insider. “If doing an interview could upset or hurt Suri in any way, she won’t do it.

“Katie does feel uncomfortable about opening up on what was a traumatic time for both of them. But she knows it can be done in a sensitive way.

“She also knows that Tom will never forgive her for walking out on him and the last thing she wants to do is poke the bear.”

Robert Irwin opens up about the devastating loss of his father Steve Irwin https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/celebrity-families/steve-irwin-robert-irwin-relationship/ Wed, 03 Jul 2024 02:03:09 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=518381 The father and son only had two short years together.

The post Robert Irwin opens up about the devastating loss of his father Steve Irwin appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Robert Irwin was born on 1 December 2003 in Queensland to his adoring parents Steve and Terri Irwin. His first and middle (Clarence) names a tribute to his grandfathers, Bob Irwin and Clarence Raines. And his life – a tribute to his late father.

Tragically, Steve, the famous ‘Crocodile Hunter’, died after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb in a freak accident. He was filming at the Great Barrier Reef in 2006 when it happened. And his only son Robert was just a few months shy of his third birthday.

Now 20, Robert continues to keep the conversation going about his father. In that way, he feels like he’s “getting little pieces of him back”.

Robert feels like his dad Steve is with him every day. (Image: Instagram)

STORIES OF STEVE

In a recent podcast, Mental as Anyone, Robert opened up: “Some people might not want any reminder of that person they’ve lost. For me personally, every time someone comes up to me in the street, it happens every single day, ‘Oh here’s this story about your dad’… I welcome that. I love it.

“When I see a picture of Dad or footage, I actually love having his presence around and living in Australia Zoo. He’s everywhere. The images and the pictures, the video and the sound, he’s still part of every day for me.

“Having lost someone at a very young age, I love getting little pieces of him back. That’s what it feels like.”

While the father and son may have only had two years on this earth together, Steve made sure to make every day count.

Reflecting on the short amount of time he had with his dad, Robert finds comfort in his loss through gratitude. He is so thankful to have had Steve, “the most amazing, loyal, dedicated, involved father figure that anyone could ever have”, for any amount of time.

He’s happy and proud to call him Dad.

“Everything he did was at 110 per cent with such precision and care and intelligence,” Robert said. “The building blocks of my life were… saturated by dad’s passion and enthusiasm. That’s something I carry with me forever.”

A BEAUTIFUL FATHER/SON BOND

Steve did indeed wear many hats. He was a zookeeper, educator, conservationist and TV star. And his passion for wildlife was palpable. But the one thing he loved even more was his family, including his young son. And like any good father and husband, it was important to Steve that they were always looked after.

In an old home video that was released on Robert’s 19th birthday, Steve made an emotional tribute to his son.

He was filmed saying: “I’ve lifted him up. And, you know, he’s a little bloke and put him on Terri’s chest. And we’re just stoked.

“At that very moment, I saw the light.”

Robert was the “light” of Steve’s life. (Image: Instagram)

He, almost with a knowing of his untimely passing, continued: “This is why I was put here. Because I could be dead tomorrow. So this little bloke is going to have to catch the crocs with Bindi.”

“I could be dead tomorrow. So this little bloke is going to have to catch the crocs with Bindi.”

‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin

Naturally, Robert got emotional watching the video. As he wiped a tear from his eye, he said:

“It means the absolute world. I just think it’s such a privilege, personally and as a family, to continue the legacy of dad.

“He gave his life, quite literally, for wildlife conservation and to make the world a better place. I just hope he’d be proud.”

Robert is a lot like his dad. From his looks to his love of creatures and his life centred on family, there’s no doubt that Steve would be incredibly proud of his son.

Funny enough, as the podcast continued, Robert also admitted to another shocking element of his family. He said
they are not just boring, they’re so boring!

“What we do is absolutely nuts. Like you’re jumping on crocs. You’re saving wildlife. You’re doing this, you’re doing that. But in terms of the Irwin family dynamic we’re… just vanilla ice cream,” he said.

Irwin family smiles outside for a pic
The Irwin family might be “boring”, but they’re still one of the nation’s favourites. (Image: Instagram)

“We are so boring. But it’s great. It’s the way to be. There’s nothing wrong with having a boring family dynamic. In fact, that’s what you’re shooting for.

“For us, there’s never a dull moment. But there’s never this sense of drama. There’s never like the fighting and the bickering and this and that. It’s just this tight-knit family unit.”

Robert continues to keep Steve’s memory alive through his wildlife conservation work and role at Australia Zoo, where he and sister Bindi have helped fill their dad’s shoes. They both have inherited their dad’s love of nature and all of its creatures.

A fun and memorable school holiday doesn’t need to break the bank. So before you send your kiddo off to a dance, art, acting, etc camp, consider these budget-friendly options. Not only will they have fun, but you’ll be building memories you’ll cherish forever.

You don’t need to be a famous family to have an amazing school holiday. (Image: Supplied)

A DAY OF ADVENTURE

Head out for a hike (and maybe a picnic too) at a national park that you haven’t visited for a while. Before you go, download the Birda app. It makes identifying and logging birds easy.

Consider the Australian Tree ID app as well to help identify species of trees, conifers and palms. Make it a game of who can spot the most varieties. National park websites have lists of walking trails and their grading to help you choose your route.

HOST A SCHOOL HOLIDAY DINNER PARTY

Who says grocery shopping during school holiday has to be boring? Put the kids in charge at the supermarket or farmers’ market by getting them to plan a dinner party for the family.

First, get them to choose the cuisine, then draw up an ingredients list. And together you can do the shop and help them prep the meal.

Don’t forget dessert! Encourage them to be creative by designing place cards and a centrepiece for the table. Then all dress up for your grand dinner party!

SEE ART, DO ART

Remember when we were young and encouraged to get creative with arts and crafts? Once we get older with jobs and kids, it seems there’s no time for such artistic endeavours. Rediscover creativity this school holiday as a family by exploring free art galleries and museum exhibits in your local area.

It’s incredible how inspiring these can be. Afterwards, sit down together and try your hand at arts and crafts as a collaborative family project. See what you can come up with – it might become a masterpiece to talk about (or perhaps, laugh about!) for years to come.

HOST A SCHOOL HOLIDAY MOVIE FESTIVAL

It’s easy to whack on a film and watch it together as a family. But a planned movie festival is much more fun! Go with a theme like animals or superheroes, for example. Each family member can then pick a film along those lines.

Keep that theme going with snacks and even dress-ups like animal print PJs or superhero capes. Of course, popcorn is a must. It’s a great and budget-friendly way to spend a winter’s day inside.

FREE SCHOOL HOLIDAY EVENT FINDERS

State tourism websites often list free events for families. These often cover everything from festivals to community fun days.

Eventbrite also lists free events – simply type in “school holidays free for kids” and your location for all the latest. Pack a lunch and plan a day adventuring at art galleries or national parks all school holiday long.

Shane Warne’s daughter Summer breaks into acting in a shock move https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/shane-warne-daughter-summer-warne/ Thu, 27 Jun 2024 01:59:59 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=517655 The new film star used to hate being on screen.

The post Shane Warne’s daughter Summer breaks into acting in a shock move appeared first on Now To Love.

Late cricketer Shane Warne’s youngest daughter Summer Warne has revealed a shocking new career move on social media.

The 22-year-old, who once struggled with growing up in the public eye because of her father’s fame, is now stepping into the spotlight herself. She’s set to make her acting debut in the upcoming film Navigating Juvenescense.

Recently, Summer shared a glimpse of herself onset of the Aussie film on social media. Directed by Mitchell Law, the movie follows a group of high schoolers as they inch closer to their big day – graduation.

SHOCK MOVE FOR SUMMER WARNE

In an interview with Yahoo Australia, Summer shared, “I never asked to be in this life.” She was referencing the life as the child of a super famous cricket star.

Summer and her two siblings were followed to school growing up. And every move was caught on camera.

“I think from the age of eight, I was getting followed to school each day. And there’d be cameras. The teachers would have to tell them to leave me alone.

“If I was out at a party, I thought I had to act a certain way, because if I did the wrong thing, or said the wrong thing, people would look at my family and go, ‘Oh, she’s a horrible person’,” she opened up.

“I never wanted… I never asked to be in this life. And I think it was just very hard growing up in an environment where your whole life is kind of on screen. If Dad made a mistake, it would reflect on me. And, you know, I thought people were looking at me differently,” Summer continued.

“But at the end of the day, Dad was who he was. I loved him. And you know, he couldn’t do wrong in my eyes. He’s my dad and I love him to bits.”

LOSING HER FATHER

Summer had a beautiful bond with her father. And when he died suddenly and tragically from a suspected heart attack in 2022 on holiday, it naturally, took a toll on their family.

She shared some of their sweet moments on Instagram as she processed her grief. Along with two smiley pictures of Summer and her beloved father, she writes, “Miss your smiley face every day Dad ❀”

Together with her siblings Brooke and Jackson, the three established The Shane Warne Legacy foundation in 2023. The organisation provides free heart disease checks to all Australians.

Sweet memories shared on Instagram. (Image: Instagram)

NOT HER FIRST TIME ON TV

You might remember Summer from her stint on The Masked Singer in 2023. She moved the judges to tears with her rendition of ColdPlay’s Yellow.

She opened up to the panel that it was her father’s favourite song. It was the one that they played at his funeral.

After being unmasked, she said: “I want to make Dad proud. “Singing Yellow was absolutely amazing – that song was his funeral song. Chris Martin sang it at the state memorial.”

Why did she go on the show? Despite never having taken singing lessons, Summer said she just wanted to make her proud.

“I never really took singing seriously, because I just didn’t think I was good enough,” she said. “I’m not a celebrity. No one’s really going to know who I am. So, shout out to my dad because if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t get this opportunity. I’m so glad I did it.”

Sam Mac was destined to be a dad and these photos with his and Rebecca James’ daughter Margot prove it https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/sam-mac-baby-photos-74916/ Thu, 27 Jun 2024 00:50:03 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/parenting/celebrity-families/sam-mac-baby-photos-74916 The Sunrise weatherman is no stranger to early mornings, so life with a newborn should be a breeze... right?

The post Sam Mac was destined to be a dad and these photos with his and Rebecca James’ daughter Margot prove it appeared first on Now To Love.

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac is known for his infectious humour and cheeky antics on TV, so it’s no surprise he’s taken to fatherhood with his signature mischievous charm.

He and girlfriend Rebecca James welcomed their first child together in September 2022, naming her Margot Grace McMillan – though we’re pretty sure the name wasn’t inspired by Aussie actress Margot Robbie.

From the moment baby Margot arrived, Sam’s whole world shifted and he’s been totally devoted to his baby girl ever since.

He and Bec introduced her to the world on Sunrise just a few days after she arrived and it was clear the TV personality was completely smitten.

“This is little Margot. She was born two days ago. She’s absolutely captured us just so quickly,” he gushed of his first child.

“It’s been the most incredible few days and you feel a little bit strange in the sense that there are 7.5 billion people on the planet but for you, this is a miracle for you. We are over the moon.”

In November 2023, Sam revealed he would be temporarily stepping away from Sunrise with one month of parental leave.

“It’s my turn to be getting Margot up, feed her and basically becoming her personal assistant/servant,” he joked to 7Life.

“[Rebecca’s] been thinking about it for the past few months and now that Margot is over a year old she’s ready to properly get back into the workforce.”

Now, Margot will be getting a sibling! The newest addition to the family is expected to arrive sometime in August 2024. Plus, Sam popped the question – it’s a big year for the family.

Keep up with all of Margot’s milestones and Sam’s first weeks, months and years as a dad with the photos below.

In June 2024, Sam shared a heart-warming video of little Margot singing along with her dad.

“Tonight as I was putting Margot to sleep, she decided to join the singalong. I’ve been singing this song to her since she was just a few days old. I’ve sung it to her hundreds of times & now I know she was listening the whole time,” he wrote on the video.

“One day her little voice won’t be so little.

“It’s also a humble brag that my one year old can sing The Beatles,” he concluded.

Family time! They’ll be cherishing every moment until the newest arrival hits town, baby No. 2.

In early November, Sam revealed he would be taking “Dad Leave” to spend more quality time with Margot while Rebecca returned to work. A month later, the young dad gave five reasons why he would recommend taking the leave if possible.

“Every morning you get to gently open that door, turn on the dim light & see her first smile of the day đŸ˜ŠđŸ€(Sadly, it’s often followed by the first nappy change of the day đŸ€ą),” he began.

Sam continued to reveal “uninterrupted 1on1 time” which can help dads feeling “on the outer,” knowing every park within a 2km radius, and being “fully present” for all the little milestones.

“You’ll start to truly understand what your partner goes through each day. & you’ll probably enter a new stratosphere of appreciation & admiration for them. I salute you @rebeccajames_stylist đŸ™ŒđŸŒ,” he wrote.

First time Margot has ever played on a swing and she seems to be loving it!

“I hope as the years tick by, she never loses that joyous full-faced unapologetic beaming smile 😆 Nothing makes me happier! Although, Ideally it’s with a few more teeth in the future,” Sam captioned the adorable pic.

In early September, Sam celebrated Margot’s first birthday with a heartfelt video describing all her firsts including the first time she went on a plane, the first time she slept in her bed, the first time she laughed and more.

Watch the video below to see all Margot’s firsts.

“No Regrets, No Remorse, Zero Z’s Given” for the new parents.

Margot was looking super cool in front of Santa.

“Be like Margot n stay cool this Christmas dudes,” Sam wrote on Instagram.

The whole family looks incredible as Margot celebrated her first Christmas!

“It blows my mind to think that on Christmas Day last year we didn’t even know this little Milk Monster was on our horizon,” Sam wrote on Instagram.

“Now, here we are a year later celebrating our first Christmas as a family & look at her, she gave us a smile! (Or she may have just been mid-burp but whatever, we’ll take it).”

In November 2022, Margot went on her first mini road trip! The young family travelled through Lorne and Apollo Bay. We hope she didn’t sleep through it all.

Another adorable snap from the families travels down the Great Ocean Road! At least this time little Margot is awake.

We can’t tell if Margot is loving or hating all the cuddles!

If this isn’t the cutest smile you’ve seen, you are lying! Little did Margot know that her dad was leaving her to visit South Africa for work.

At her six month mark, Sam shared a sweet message (and smiley snap to match) to his Instagram:

“Watching you achieve each little milestone is bringing such immense joy to your Mum & I. The first time you rolled over, first time holding the bottle, first time sitting unassisted & my personal favourite, your first giggle. There’s no better sound in the world. Please never lose that giggle,” he wrote.

“I promise to continue my flabbergasted fly impression to bring it on. Some babies are satisfied with raspberries to prompt the lolz, but you require something much more strenuous (& potentially heart attack inducing) from your parents. I respect that.

“Your little personality is starting to shine through. You’re sweet & gentle. Sometimes shy. But also loud & rambunctious when we aren’t fulfilling your demands (of which there’s many) #Diva

“You’re a little adventurer. You’ve already taken 8 domestic flights! I’m sure there’s no prouder moment for any father than the day you watch your child secure lounge access ✈ hang in there bubba. I believe in you.

“I love singing to you in the bath, I love eating your feet, & I love watching you fall asleep on my chest: If I said these things to an adult I’d sound like a serial killer, but with you it’s just perfect. & legal. Phew.

“Thank you for bringing the magic to our lives little Margot. Mum & I love you so very very much. Xx

Margot wasn’t all smiles for the New Years Eve fireworks… “When the breast milk & fireworks kick in at the exact same time,” the young dad wrote on Instagram.

DADDY DISNEY MODE ACTIVATED!

She’s stolen hearts in Australia, now Margot is undoubtedly stealing everyone’s hearts in Europe as the family attend Bec’s brothers wedding in Italy.

Sam shared this adorable picture to his Instagram to celebrate Margot’s first month in the world!

“You are the most important person in our world. We both can’t stop staring at you. Your tiny fingers, your little ear lobes, the fat rolls on your neck. Every part of you is perfect to us.”

Margot’s not happy! Bec managed to catch the hilarious moment the two-week-old accidentally flipped her dad the bird. Sam joked: “Margot is 2 weeks old today
& she’s just given me my first performance review.”

Loretta McMillan couldn’t hold her emotions in as she met her granddaughter in late September, Sam snapping this sweet photo of his mum and baby girl.

After a long nine months without a drop of alcohol, Bec was excited to enjoy a (giant) glass of vino with her baby girl.

Sam and Bec were “hopelessly in love” from the moment they got to take their daughter home, and it was quickly apparent that Margot had inherited her dad’s expressive face. “Did someone order a slightly judgemental burrito with extra side eye?” Sam joked with this photo.

“I’m the happiest man on the planet right now. If anyone needs me, my schedule for the next little while will be looking in awe at Bec, looking in awe at Margot, crying & repeat. I’m a Dad! #MacDaddy”

He also heaped praise onto Rebecca, calling her a “warrior” for bringing their girl into the world. “@rebeccajames_stylist was (& is) a warrior. I will never forget what she endured over the past 9 months, & particularly the past few days for our little family. Unbelievable strength. What a woman,” Sam wrote.

Margot Grace McMillan arrived happy and healthy on September 11, 2022. Sam shared this photo to announce his daughter’s arrival alongside the caption: “This is a love I never even knew existed. I’m overwhelmed & still processing it all right now. My girls. Wow.”

Sam Mac and Bec James’ pregnancy video

Sam Mac and partner Rebecca James announced they were expecting their first child together with this hilarious snap in April 2022, which Sam captioned: “Wowsers! Mini Mac coming soon & Bec just can’t wipe the joy off her face.”

Amanda Keller opens up about “being angry” and finding her husband’s diagnosis “hard to accept” https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/family/amanda-keller-husband/ Tue, 25 Jun 2024 05:45:21 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=515416 "There's no easy way out."

The post Amanda Keller opens up about “being angry” and finding her husband’s diagnosis “hard to accept” appeared first on Now To Love.

Radio host Amanda Keller is no stranger to opening up about life’s challenges, especially as it relates to her husband Harley Oliver’s brave battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Most recently, the Jonesy and Amanda Show host bared her soul in an interview with Stellar magazine. She opened up about navigating Harley’s devastating diagnosis. And how she’s found it “hard to accept”.

“Every time I talk about this, sometimes I’m fine and sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming,” she admitted while describing her husband as “quite remarkable.”

“He’s so pragmatic with this. He just gets on with it. And I’ve gone through a phase of being angry because I’d say things to him like, ‘Oh, come on, stand upright’, or ‘Your voice
’

“I knew what it was, he’d been diagnosed. I knew what was going on, but I found it hard to accept.”

Amanda isn’t reading up on Parkinson’s. She doesn’t want to know what they’re in for. Instead, she says she’s choosing to take each day as it comes. “I’m living it as it happens. And part of that is choosing to be naĂŻve,” she shared.

“I’m living it as it happens. And part of that is choosing to be naĂŻve.”

Amanda Keller, Radio Host

“There’s no easy way out. But I know what I’m like. And I’d be prone to overthinking and panic. [I’d try] to fix things that are so out of my control.”

ON-AIR BREAK DOWN

In May, Amanda became emotional while live on the Jonesy and Amanda show, again over her husband’s diagnosis.

The tears came as Amanda began sharing a story about planning their son Jack’s 21st birthday party. She wanted to put a slide show together to play throughout the night – something that would have traditionally been Harley’s domain.

“He has been the guy who will make the kid’s birthday invitations. He’s very creative. He will work on the computer to do this funky stuff. Normally, he would have done all of that,” Amanda shared.

“And with the way things are with Harley at the moment, he’s got Parkinson’s disease and things are just hard.”

THEIR LOVE STORY

Amanda and Harley live in Sydney’s seaside suburb Coogee, and they’ve just celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on May 27th.

Harley gifted Amanda a pearl necklace tucked inside a pretty yellow box.

The couple got married in 1990, the same weekend as the Monaco Grand Prix. But their love story began two years prior in 1987.

Harley was a producer on the show Beyond 2000 that Amanda was auditioning for, and he knew she was the one the moment he laid eyes on her.

This particular role saw his leading lady wedged into a tiny, two-man submarine making an ascent from the choppy waters. Recalling that magical moment, Harley laughed, “The lid was lifting up and there was Amanda desperately trying to remember what her piece to camera was going to be.

“And all she could do was vomit over the side as the thing bounced around the harbour. It attracted quite a crowd in the viewing room! But she was pushing through it. She was being a brave soldier – and that’s what she is like.”

A BRAVE BATTLE

Ironic how not much has changed. Amanda has continued to put on a brave front since they received Harley’s devastating diagnosis seven years ago.

However, it was just last year in 2023 that the radio host disclosed his health challenge publicly on her Double A Chattery podcast.

“I first noticed Harley’s footfall around the house changing, like he was dragging his leg, and his hands started to shake, and he said he’d just been whacked in the thumbs as a wicketkeeper playing cricket, but I felt something was going on,” Keller told her podcast co-host Anita McGregor.

“I know Harley so well, and how protective he is of his inner core, he was absolutely scared and in denial, and who would blame him.”

Shortly after the show aired, Harley received the gut-wrenching diagnosis. “When he came home (from the doctor), we both just sat there completely numb,” Keller said.

LONGING FOR THE WAY THINGS WERE

Parkinson’s is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that causes uncontrollable movements like shakiness, stiffness and difficulty with balance and coordination. Sadly, symptoms gradually worsen over time.

Only human, Amanda has opened up about “hating herself” for wishing things were different and getting frustrated at the situation.

“I miss the ease of life. Of going to a restaurant, [but then] Harley’s back gets sore, and he’s quietly spoken so the noise overwhelms him. I miss the ease of travel. It changes us,” she said.

“But we’re not alone in that. Life is this stuff, isn’t it? We talk a lot about long-term relationships, and how popular culture celebrates the beginning and the end.

“But the meat of life, the joy of life, the sadness of life, the true human condition, lies in the middle,” she said, her voice breaking.

THE BIGGEST SURPRISE

The heartbreaking week she had planning their son’s birthday made all these feelings come crashing back. She admitted to feeling “lonely” and that her heart breaks for her darling husband whom she thought would have to miss the birthday celebration.

She knew how hard it would have been for Harley to make it.

However, it was Amanda who was, perhaps, given the biggest surprise of all on Jack’s special day. The couple’s friend Pam and their driver Cole came walking into the party with none other than Harley.

“A lot of people were shocked because they hadn’t seen Harley for a while. But I know what it cost him to get there. And he said to me, how could I not be here?” Amanda said as tears began to form.

HARLEY OLIVER: THE ARTIST

Harley was born in New Zealand but grew up in London. While he’s best known for his career in television, Harley’s first love – other than Amanda – has always been painting.

It’s a passion that comes naturally. Harley was practically born with a paint brush in his hand. His great, great, great grandfather was Samuel Massey, a well-known English portrait artist. Samuel married his sister’s friend, also a painter, JN Rhodes.

So when Harley picked up a brush at the tender age of eight, it was no surprise that he took a liking to painting as well.

His affinity stuck with him. Harley attended Wimbledon Art School in London in the late 1960s. There, he painted English landscapes that stood out in an era of abstract minimalism. After art school, however, he got into television as an editor at the BBC.

Later, he moved into a producer role, then a director. He began making documentaries for National Geographic and the Discovery Channel as well as various programs for TV channels in Australia and New Zealand.

Of course, in between projects, he’d find time to paint. But it wasn’t until around 2014 that Harley decided to dedicate more of his time to being an artist. He debuted his first solo exhibition, Inappropriate Nudity, at Stanley Street Gallery in Sydney that year.

Since then, Harley has had two solo shows featuring some of his best works at the gallery, including Hitters, Grapplers & Strongmen and Dad Took A Picture.

Harley has also painted portraits of the Sydney Roosters rugby league team.

Veteran Canadian actor Donald Sutherland was sadly announced dead by his son, and fellow actor, Kiefer Sutherland sharing a heartfelt tribute.

In his announcement, Kiefer celebrated his father’s great legacy in which his five children followed in his footsteps.

Donald was best recognised for his roles in The Dirty Dozen, The Hunger Games, and M*A*S*H and so many more given his 60 years in the entertainment industry.

Kiefer, the eldest of Donald’s sons, is one of the more recognisable in the industry among his siblings. His first acting gig was in Max Dugan Returns as a teenager, but he is best known for his 1984 role in The Bay Boy.

Oddly enough, Kiefer is actually a twin to Donald’s only daughter Rachel. While she didn’t choose to work in front of the camera, she is a producer and production manager, working on series like Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, Nurses and The Kennedys.

Rachel and Kiefer were a result of Donald’s second marriage to Shirley Douglas. The pair were together for four years from 1966 to 1970. Shirley sadly passed from pneumonia in 2020.

Donald’s first wife was Lois Hardwick from 1959 to 1966.

Next up in Donald’s line of children is Roeg, born 1974, and is a producer and talent manager. However, he doesn’t share the same mother as his eldest siblings.

In 1972, Donald wed Francine Racette after meeting on the set of Alien Thunder and they were together until his unfortunate passing. During their marriage, they welcomed three sons together.

The fourth child, Rossif followed more of Kiefer and Donald’s film path. Born in 1978, he has appeared in more than fifty films and TV shows, including Reign, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Catastrophe.

Lastly, the youngest of the Sutherland clan is Angus born in 1982 Los Angeles. He has taken roles behind and in-front of the camera after working as a producer on the 2019 movie 1917 and appeared in Dollhouse and Familiar Strangers.

Inside Chris, Liam and Luke Hemsworth’s wild upbringing with their equally good-looking parents https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/chris-hemsworth-parents-67464/ Wed, 19 Jun 2024 23:57:47 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/parenting/celebrity-families/chris-hemsworth-parents-67464 The three boys weren't always close.

The post Inside Chris, Liam and Luke Hemsworth’s wild upbringing with their equally good-looking parents appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
When it comes to the genetic lottery the Hemsworth brothers – Chris, Liam and Luke – surely hit the jackpot.

Their dashing good looks, making them worthy of playing mythological gods and a dreamy love interests, were naturally inherited.

So who are the Hemsworth’s equally good-looking parents?

Chris, Liam and Luke were born to parents Craig and Leonie in Melbourne, Victoria with eldest sibling Luke arriving in 1980, Chris in 1983 and finally Liam in 1990.

Leonie was an English teacher and Craig a counsellor working in child protection services.

The family relocated from Victoria to the Northern Territory to work on a cattle farm.

A few years after having Liam, the couple relocated to the Northern Territory to work on a cattle farm.

“It was four-and-a-half hours from the nearest town,” Chris told the Telegraph.

“My parents ran the community centre which doubled as a post office and grocery store. It was in the middle of nowhere. There were crocodiles and buffalo. I went to a school that was made up of 60 [Aboriginal] kids between the ages of five and 17, all mashed into two classrooms.”

The family later relocated again to Phillip Island in Victoria.

It wasn’t always easily wrangling three boys.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel in 2016, Luke jokingly called their home “the Hemsworth house of horrors” – and for good reason!

Liam revealed to Conan O’Brien the fighting and squabbling got so bad between them at one point he threw a knife at Chris’ head.

“I feel like that’s when you really get to know each other, when you give someone a good punch in the face,” he said.

“It’s one way of expressing love. That was how we did it in our house – ‘Hey, man, good to see you, here’s a punch in the face for you.”

“I threw a knife – I don’t know why my grandpa thought it was a good idea to give little kids a proper throwing knife, but he gave it to us
I threw it at [Chris’] head when I was about eight-years-old and the handle hit him in the head.

“It was just a warning. Like if you mess with me, I’ll throw a knife at your head.”

While things got heated between brothers there’s certainly no love lost for parents Leonie and Craig.

In a candid interview in his series, Limitless, Chris revealed the sad motivation behind his acting career.

“If I’m totally honest, I did acting to get my parents out of debt,” he said. “Talking to my dad about when he’s going to be able to pay the bank off and him saying, ‘Never, we’ll die having to pay it off,’
that kind of really [bothered] me from a very young age.”

Liam or Craig?

(Instagram) (Credit: (Instagram))

While the three Hemsworth brothers may be growing up and starting families of their own, their parents still regularly appearing in all three brother’s snaps.

Leonie stunned fans with her youthful looks as she celebrated her 60th birthday, the resemblance of Liam to dad Craig didn’t go unnoticed.

Fans were doing a double take when Liam shared a throwback to his parents’ wedding day – Craig looking identical to Liam, albeit a little more rugged.

Olivia Newton-John’s daughter Chloe is heartbroken over the sale of her mum’s Santa Ynez home https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/homes/olivia-newton-john-widower-lists-home/ Tue, 18 Jun 2024 03:17:25 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=515939 She shares so many memories with her mum there.

Olivia Newton-John’s widower John Easterling has made the difficult decision to sell the $13.6 million California ranch where the singer spent her final days.

According to an ONJ insider, the news is “absolutely heartbreaking” for Olivia’s daughter Chloe Rose Lattanzi, 38. “She has so many memories shared with her mum on that ranch.

“The horses, all named by Olivia, ridden by her, the house, the garden, it’s going to be incredibly difficult for Chloe to let this property go.”

Olivia spent her final days in the beautiful Santa Ynez home. (Image: Instagram)

But, says the source, “Sadly, they have no choice. It’s devastating for everyone, but this is a money issue. The maintenance on the estate and the annual tax bill is crazy.”

“To keep that ranch would have financially impacted all the good work being done by Olivia’s charities and foundations. They made a promise to her they’d keep saving lives.

“She wanted her legacy to be about her philanthropic work. And she wanted it to continue after she had gone. There will be a few tears shed when this place sells, but it’s what Olivia would have wanted.”

FULFILLING OLIVIA’S DREAM

John and Chloe, who admits the passing of her mum is still raw, are carrying on the singer’s final wishes.

They are continuing to help others with cancer through the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne.

The organisation provides much-needed support for cancer patients and funding for research on plant medicine for cancer. To do this, it needs a steady stream of income.

So as hard as it may be to let go, John has admitted that in addition to the sale of the home, some of Olivia’s items from the ranch will also be sold.

John tells PEOPLE, “Besides some of the personal effects that Chloe and I are keeping, many of Olivia‘s treasures will be sold at a Julien’s Auctions later this year.”

He continues, “Part of the proceeds from this auction will go to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund where we’re making historical progress with the research on plant medicine and cancer.

“This was Olivia’s dream, and I promised her I would follow this through.”

WONDERFUL MEMORIES

The ranch arrives on the market almost two years after the Grease star lost her battle to breast cancer. And while John is bidding farewell to the home, he’s holding tight to their memories.

The sunflowers image is thought to be the last picture Olivia had taken at their Santa Ynez home before she passed. (Image: Instagram)

“Olivia and I made many wonderful memories at our home in Florida and the ranch in California. The message that keeps coming through so clearly is to love life, live life, and never forget about the good things that are going on,” John, a naturopathic entrepreneur, tells PEOPLE.

“The ‘Indian Way’ Ranch in Santa Ynez is a spectacular property where I can see a new family having great nature adventures and relishing the life experience.”

The sprawling 12-acre estate fronts the Santa Ynez River and boasts four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. There’s also a pool, outdoor kitchen and two-bedroom guesthouse.

And true to Olivia’s animal-loving nature, the home is a pet-lover’s paradise. The estate features a barn, stable, arena and pastures to keep her fur babies happy.

“I love animals. They give so much to you and demand so little,” Olivia has said. (Image: Instagram)

The late actress was open about her adoration for all living creatures. “At one point, before I had my daughter, I had seven horses, nine dogs and a bunch of cats and chickens,” she shared in a 2022 interview. “But now, I have a dog, a cat, 13 chickens and two miniature horses.”

Olivia beamed with joy when she was around animals. And her spark was witnessed by everyone.

Speaking with The Australian Women’s Weekly in 2021, Chloe said one of the things she admired most about her mum was her ability to “see beauty in everything“.

Theo James stole hearts in The Gentlemen, but his wife Ruth captured his heart a long time ago https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/theo-james-wife/ Tue, 18 Jun 2024 00:33:35 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=507392 Meet the women who has his heart.

The post Theo James stole hearts in The Gentlemen, but his wife Ruth captured his heart a long time ago appeared first on Now To Love.

He became a heartthrob during the dystopian era of television as Four in Divergent, but the love for Theo James resurged once more following his debut in hit series, The Gentlemen.

In the spin-off series of Guy Ritchie’s epic film, Theo portrays Eddie Horniman an estranged son who inherits the family estate only to discover the drug empire it sits upon.

While Theo stole hearts years ago, it was his British accent – which yes, is his real accent – that solidified his heartthrob status. Naturally, fans have become curious as if someone has stolen his heart and the answer is his beautiful wife, Ruth Kearney.

Irish-born Ruth is an actress herself and the pair met at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, appearing in the stage production, Man of Mode.

The moment they first laid eyes on each other wasn’t the picture-perfect moment we dream of in fairy tales as Theo admitted to the Evening Standard in 2020 they “were huddled in leotards pretending to be mice.”

Luckily the pair escaped their mice costumes and donned a more romantic setting as they shared the screen in Sanditon, inspired by a Jane Austen novel, in the first season.

James and Ruth are experts at keeping their romantic relationship private and have done so since the beginning considering she isn’t interested in being “famous.”

In 2018, the couple exchanged vows according to InStyle but the exact date of their wedding remains unknown.

Despite the rare public appearances, James has previously admitted it has been difficult juggling their acting careers and their relationship.

“It’s interesting being together this long because we have navigated through the very beginnings of our careers,” Theo told the Evening Standard in 2020. “That can be hard at times, but also that [brings] certain strengths [to] a relationship.”

A few years down the track, Ruth and Theo welcomed their first child, a daughter, together in August 2021. However, her name remains unknown.

“It’s discombobulating at first, especially with your first child because your whole life changes, but ultimately it makes you — definitely for me, at least — a much more solid person,” he told Instyle of fatherhood.

All was quiet on the family’s front, until the 2023 Emmy Awards on January 15, 2024, when Theo revealed he had secretly welcomed a second child.

“We have a 4-month-old. We’re in the thick of it,” he announced during the Emmys red carpet show. “We have a daughter and then a 4-month-old son.”

Despite both starring on Australian soaps Home and Away and Neighbours and even despite both being Australian, Bob Morley and Eliza Taylor didn’t cross paths until they were cast in sci-fi drama The 100 in 2011.

Fans of The 100 watched the show and begged for their characters Bellamy and Clarke to fall in love as the look in their eyes and the way they held each other was unlike any other love story. But little did we know, the seeds of their real life love story were merely trickling through the characters. However, if you’re not familiar with The 100, it is available for streaming in Australia on Apple TV+ for the curious readers.

They met on The 100 in 2011.

Over the years, the pair kept their relationship very private. Even their wedding ceremony which took place in Hawaii on May 5 2019, was kept extremely hush-hush until Eliza’s shock announcement.

“Recently I married my best friend and soulmate @WildpipM,” Eliza wrote on Twitter.

“We are very happy and ask that you keep your comments kind and respect our privacy at this time.”

Bob commented on the post, writing: “This is something we both cherish very deeply and are beyond happy. Please remember to be respectful and kind to one another.”

In March 2022, their duo expanded with the arrival of their first child together, a boy called Henry. However, getting to a joyous day as “Mama” and “Papa” bear was not easy after Eliza suffered a miscarriage year prior.

In tribute to their loss, Bob added some permanent ink to his arm – a father penguin and his chick.

“I got this tattoo at a turning point in my life, things don’t always work out as planned, but the lessons learnt have made me a better human,” he wrote on Instagram.

Given their very public life as actors, Eliza and Bob have kept their son’s face out of the media. Often posting photos of the little bub from behind or casually hiding his face from the camera.

But one thing we do know about the now one-year-old is he loves Australia, or at least Bob loves showing him wildlife Down Under.

“The cockatoos, the galahs, the kookaburras
It’s quite awesome, especially when you’ve got a little kid and they’re just like, ‘Wow, look at that!'” Bob told TV WEEK.

“Having a child and coming back to where you grew up, you realise there are some quite magical things.”

“Three years ago today we stood atop a big green mountain and said “I do” to a life of loving one another. So much has happened in those three years,” Eliza wrote on Instagram.

“Fires burnt through our homeland, a pandemic shut down the world, and we had a beautiful baby boy. Through it all, our love has only grown stronger. You are a wonderful father and a spectacular husband. Henry and I are so lucky. We love you!! Happy anniversary x”.

Meet John Farnham’s family: All your burning questions answered https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/celebrity-families/john-farnham-family/ Mon, 17 Jun 2024 07:33:59 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=516473 He and wife Jillian have two sons together.

The post Meet John Farnham’s family: All your burning questions answered appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Aussie icon John Farnham is best known for his hit song, You’re the Voice. However, recently the music icon returned to the spotlight after publicly sharing photos of himself for the first time after undergoing surgery for oral cancer.

The sweet photos were taken at his son Rob Farnham’s wedding. John, who’s 75, looked to be happy and well despite the wedding coming just months after he announced he was cancer-free.

The surgery to remove the cancer might have taken part of John’s jaw, but it didn’t take away his smile. (Image: Instagram)

Shared on Instagram, it didn’t take long for the comments section to blow up, with well wishes both for John, whose public appearances have been rare these days, and the newlyweds.

HOW MANY KIDS DOES JOHN FARNHAM HAVE?

While some incorrect information is circulating that John Farnham has a daughter, the truth is that he and wife Jillian share two sons, Robert, 44, and James, 36. Rob recently married his beautiful bride and “favourite person in the universe” Melissa Kelly.

“I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us and I’m truly honoured to have you by my side as my wife for life,” Rob posted to social media.

“It was such an amazing experience sharing it with our close family and friends witnessing our love.”

John’s son Rob married his sweetheart Melissa Kelly. (Image: Instagram)

The entire family joined together in celebrating the happy occasion.

FARNHAM FAMILY HEALTH BATTLES

However, things haven’t been all rainbows and butterflies for the Farnham family. In 2023, John went under the knife to have a tumour removed from his mouth, following a shocking cancer diagnosis in August 2022.

The procedure, which saw part of John’s jaw removed, lasted nearly 12 hours.

Sadly, that was only the beginning. John then went through eight gruelling weeks of radiation.

Now that he’s been officially declared cancer-free, John says he’s the “luckiest man alive.”

However, his youngest son James Farnham, has recently had to battle his own health issues. At the beginning of 2024, James shared that he had major surgery the year prior.

In an Instagram post, he shared that he had diverticular disease.

“Last year, just as Dad was recovering from his cancer surgeries, I also had major surgery to deal with diverticular disease that had caused perforations in my bowel,” he began.

“The surgery saved my life but it has left me with a stoma – a surgically created opening in the abdomen that allows me to poo
into a temporary colostomy bag.

“With any luck, I will be receiving my reversal surgery in the next couple (of) months.”

The power of family in turbulent times can’t be denied, and it was so nice to see the Farnhams come together with smiles and in good health at Rob’s wedding.

However, the recent images have fans questioning

IS JOHN FARNHAM STILL MARRIED TO JILLIAN BILLMAN?

It was love at first sight for John when he saw ‘Jillie’. (Image: Instagram)

And the answer is yes! Their love story goes way back. Jillian was a dancer in the musical Charlie Girl – the production that John was also starring in back in the early 1970s.

As he recalls, it was basically love at first sight for him.

“Jillie came out of the theatre, and I saw her. At that stage, she had very long dark hair, down to her very petite bum, and I was history.”

“It took me about three months to get a kiss. We started to go out together and it naturally happened. It was just something that happened,” John said.

The two began dating and eventually got married on 11 April 1973 in Melbourne.

THE APPLE DOESN’T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE

Both of John’s sons are in the music industry. Rob grew up playing the guitar in a band. His passion soon became his career as now he is a singer/songwriter for the rock band Rival Fire. They’ve toured with popular bands like Butterfly Effect and Dead Letter Circus as well as KISS and Birds of Tokyo.

Interestingly, Rob has also dabbled in acting. You might’ve seen him in the films Queen of the Damned and The Wilde Girls.

John has always shared a close bond with his boys. (Image: Instagram)

James, who’s in a relationship with Tessa Effendi, works as a concert audio technician. The youngest son has even helped out on a few of his dad’s tours.

It’s really sweet how close the two sons are with their father. Rob told The Australian Women’s Weekly, “We are really proud of him. He’s inspiring us every day, but then again, he always has,” when speaking about John.

WHERE DOES JOHN FARNHAM LIVE IN AUSTRALIA?

John has long called Melbourne home. However, many don’t realise that while John is considered a much-loved Aussie icon, he was actually born in Dagenham, Essex, England. The singer didn’t move to Australia until he was 10 years old. He later became an official Australian citizen, and ironically, wound up being awarded the Australian of the Year award in 1987.

We’ve been given a rare glimpse at Heidi Klum’s four children, and we can’t believe how grown up they are now https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/heidi-klum-children/ Mon, 17 Jun 2024 01:25:32 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=515150 She’s a proud mum.

German-American supermodel Heidi Klum may have a career in the limelight, but she tends to keep her family life private.

The 51-year-old has four children and while they’re now all grown up, pictures of and information about the kids are ultra rare.

Heidi Klum’s eldest child, daughter Leni, is following in her mother’s footsteps and pursuing a modelling career. And while Leni doesn’t shy away from the spotlight, her younger siblings do.

Heidi’s other three children whom she shares with ex-husband Seal: Henry, Johan and Lou, are much more private.

Below we detail everything we know about Heidi Klum’s four biological children.

As aforementioned, Heidi’s eldest child Leni is the most well-known of the supermodel’s children.

Leni Olum Klum, 20, was born on 4 May 2004, and her biological father is Italian businessman Flavio Briatore.

While Heidi was pregnant, her relationship with Flavio came to an end but she met and started dating Seal soon after.

The couple married in 2005 and Seal adopted Leni as his own just a few years later.

The stunning mother-daughter duo. (Image: Getty)

Leni has recently started a career in modelling, with her mother making her wait until she was 16 to do so.

“I was really sad about it, but in the end she was right. And I feel like that’s what sparked me to want to model more,” she said.

Since then, Leni has gone on to pose on the cover of Vogue Germany alongside her mother, as well as graced the covers of Harper’s Bazaar Germany and Glamour Germany solo.

The 20-year-old often attends public events and red carpets with her mother and there are many photos of the duo together.

As she grows up, the resemblance between Leni and Heidi seems to grow even stronger, with the pair sharing the same facial bone structure.

After Heidi married Seal in 2005, the pair went on to have three children together.

The former Victoria’s Secret model gave birth to her next child, Henry GĂŒnther Ademola Dashtu Samuel, on 12 September 2005.

Soon after welcoming Henry, Heidi spoke with PEOPLE about which of his parents her son most resembled.

“Everyone who sees him says, ‘Oh my god, he looks just like Seal.’ And I’m like, ‘He has nothing of me? C’mon, there must be something of me in there somewhere.’ And they’re like, ‘No, sorry, he looks just like his father,’ ” she said.

Henry, now 18, remains out of the spotlight. The only glimpses fans have really been given of the teenager have been rare photos posted by Heidi on Instagram, or photos taken of the family out and about in public.

However, in January 2024 all four children accompanied their father Seal to the premiere of The Book of Clarence, a movie directed by Seal’s brother, Jeymes Samuel.

The kids look so grown up, and it’s one of the only recent photos of them we’ve seen.

Both of her sons are now taller than her! (Image: Instagram)

Shortly after Henry was born, Heidi and Seal announced they were pregnant once again.

They welcomed another son, Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel, on 22 November 2006.

The pair announced his arrival in a post on Heidi’s website, saying, “He is healthy, beautiful and looks just like his mother.

“To our children, a brother/ To our parents, a grandson/ To my wife and I, a son/ To our family, a blessing,” the post continued.

When Johan was young, his model mother described him as a very artistic and creative child.

“While the other kids are watching a movie, he’ll sit down at his desk for 45 minutes and paint monsters one after another,” she told Parents magazine in 2012.

Like his older brother Henry, photos of Johan remain extremely limited.

Heidi Klum’s fourth and youngest child was born a few years later in 2009.

The couple welcomed their daughter, Lou Sulola Samuel on 9 October.

After her birth, Seal released a statement saying, “It’s difficult to imagine loving another child as much as you love your existing children. Anyone who has a family will tell you this. Where will one find that extra love? If you love your existing children with all of your heart, how then can one possibly find more heart with which to love another?

“On Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at 7:46 p.m., the answer to this question came in the form of our fourth child and second daughter. Lou Sulola Samuel was born, and from the moment she looked into both of our eyes, it was endless love at first sight,” the singer wrote.

Heidi is a renowned lover of Halloween, and in a 2021 interview with PEOPLE, the 51-year-old shared that Lou seems to be the only one of her children who has inherited her love of the holiday.

“I was hoping that I would pass this on even to my kids, but out of four, there’s only one that really is going for it and that’s Lou,” she said.

Most recently, Heidi uploaded a snap of all her children together celebrating her 51st birthday, captioning the post, “All I could wish for đŸ„°â€â€.

Hayley Lewis’ son Kai Taylor had big Olympic dreams just like his mum, and now they’re coming true https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/hayley-lewis-son/ Mon, 17 Jun 2024 00:19:08 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=516009 A swimming dynasty.

Former Australian Olympic swimmer Hayley Lewis’ incredible sporting legacy is being continued on by her son.

Her youngest child, 20-year-old Kai Taylor, has earned himself a spot on the Australian swim team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Hayley Lewis, 50, first shot to swimming stardom in 1990, when she won five gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, aged 15.

Hayley went on to compete at three Olympic Games over the course of her swimming career, and she won a silver medal at the 1992 event.

It seems as though the 50-year-old’s legacy doesn’t end with her, as her youngest son Kai is quickly coming up the ranks in the swimming world.

Last year, Kai represented Australia in the sport for the very first time, and Hayley was every bit the proud mum you’d expect.

As Kai gears up to go one step further and attend the 2024 Olympics, Hayley is right behind him as his biggest supporter.

“So proud”, the former The Biggest Loser host shared ahead of Kai’s first swim at the 2024 Australian Swimming Trials on 11 June.

Kai placed fourth in the 200 metre freestyle event, which means he didn’t qualify for an individual spot, but he’ll be representing Australia in the 4×200 metre relay.

The 20-year-old will be making his Olympic debut in 2024.

As a huge advocate for mental health, Hayley Lewis has spoken about her desire to protect her son from the more challenging aspects of the sport.

“We always said to our kids the main thing we would do is support them. We love them and want them to be happy,” she told The Sydney Morning Herald ahead of the 2023 swimming world championships.

“For both my boys, I’ve always made sure they are fully supported. I’m very wary of Kai and the pressure of being an athlete. Fortunately, for him being a swimmer in 2023, it’s a lot different to me in 1993.”

The three-time-Olympian added, “In my era it was all about [being told] to toughen up. I didn’t have the opportunity to have a good cry after one of my swims, otherwise I’d be told I was weak and I needed to stop swimming. At 19, I was ready to quit and work as a barista in a coffee shop.

“I just can’t tell you how important it is for a mum that if Kai is feeling stressed or pressured, he has support around him.”

Kai has expressed his gratitude for having his mum backing him no matter what he does, saying “Even though she’s a legend of the sport she just wants me to be happy.”

After his monumental win from lane eight at the 2023 World Trials, he added, “She told me to do my thing, be calm, but she did however mention that great things happen from lane eight.”

All about Cate Blanchett’s four beautiful children https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/cate-blanchett-children/ Thu, 13 Jun 2024 04:08:04 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=516097 The Aussie actress loves being a mum.

Cate Blanchett may be most well-known for her iconic acting roles and impeccable red carpet style, but behind the scenes the 55-year-old is a mother of four.

We don’t often see photos of the Aussie actress’ kids, but she’s a proud mum who often gushes over them in interviews.

Cate Blanchett has been with her husband, Australian playwright and screenwriter Andrew Upton, since 1997 and they couple have gone on to welcome four children together: three sons and one daughter.

The Academy Award winner has famously kept her children largely out of the public eye, and she has previously said her children are blissfully unaware of her fame.

When she was honoured with the Chaplin Award in 2022, she told Page Six that her children had “no idea” why she was receiving the award and that they are largely “disinterested” in her career, but in the “best possible, healthiest way”.

She said, “I told them, ‘Oh I’m going to New York for 36 hours. I’ll be back on Wednesday
’ One of them is getting an award at school, and they went, ‘Oh, OK, have a good time.’”

Below, we detail everything to know about Cate Blanchett’s four children: Dashiell, Roman, Ignatius and Edith.

Born on 3 December 2001, Cate and Andrew’s eldest child Dashiell John Upton seems to be following in the footsteps of his parents.

Cate previously told W Magazine that she didn’t want the entertainment industry to “feel like a family business” to Dashiell and the rest of her children, but that hasn’t stopped her eldest son from showing an interest in the field.

In 2009, the Carol actress revealed to PEOPLE that despite being just 8 years old, her “oldest already performs his own version [of] Hamlet.”

Dashiell graduated from film school in 2022, and he has already started working in production.

Most recently, the now-22-year-old worked on The Fall Guy which was filmed right here in Australia, and the movie has seen great success at the box office.

Yahoo Lifestyle reported that he assisted in the cinematography department for the duration of the five-month shoot, and a friend of the family told the publication that “Dash never really told anybody who his mother was, as far as everyone else on set knew he was just a recent graduate that was lucky to land themselves on a [Ryan] Gosling shoot. He didn’t want people to think he was there just because of who his mum is.”

Cate and Andrew’s second eldest child, Roman Robert Upton, was born on 23 April 2004.

Roman has joined his mother on the red carpet only a handful of times, and he is one of Cate’s most private children. But that hasn’t stopped the actress from speaking about and gushing over him.

In a 2015 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the 55-year-old revealed the meaning behind Roman’s name.

“Roman
Polanski, but it’s also the French word for book,” she explained.

There is little else known about the now-20-year old.

Ignatius Martin Upton, Cate and Andrew’s third son, arrived on 1 January 2008, and he seems to be the child who has spent the most amount of time in the public eye.

The 16-year-old has been seen out and about with his mother at countless events, red carpets, and even backstage or on set.

“[Ignatius] actually watched the show backstage, which is a really interesting and exciting place with people putting on makeup and costumes and so [the kids] love it,” Cate shared about her stint in A Streetcar Named Desire in 2009.

Having a house full of three boys is a joy for Cate who said, “Having boys is great. It’s a neat position to be in and I love the high energy that comes along in raising boys. It’s fun.”

Cate with her youngest child, daughter Edith. (Image: Getty)

It seems Cate and Andrew’s family didn’t quite feel complete, as the pair went on to adopt their daughter Edith Vivian Patricia Upton on 6 March 2015.

Shortly after they welcomed Edith into the family, the Aussie icon opened up to Sky News about the joy her adoption brought them.

“It’s wonderful to welcome a little girl into our fold. We’re besotted
Fourth time around, it’s extraordinary.”

The 9-year-old was the perfect addition to the family, and the Blue Jasmine actress has spoken about her sons’ tight bond with their younger sister.

“I find it extraordinary, glimpsing them becoming a unit. And a very welcoming unit,” the star told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2015. “I’m very proud of them.”

Cate spoke with the hosts of The Project in 2022 about her experience with home-schooling her children during the pandemic in 2020, admitting it was particularly difficult to get her young daughter to do her work.

“She wouldn’t start the classes until we had a full array of stuffed animals, all of which had the names of all the people in her class.

“It felt like some weird kind of cross between The Muppets and MasterClass. It was quite traumatic actually,” she joked.

Hawai’i for families: Your play, stay and eat guide https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/hawaii-where-to-stay-eat-and-play-75533/ Thu, 13 Jun 2024 01:33:04 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/travel/destinations-cities/hawaii-where-to-stay-eat-and-play-75533 Pack the keiki (children) and your sarong for the ultimate family holiday — Hawai'i is as much a playground for adults as it is for the kids, as writer Franki Hobson discovered.

The post Hawai’i for families: Your play, stay and eat guide appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
I’m not embarrassed to admit that I want A LOT from my family holiday. Fun for both myself and the kids, new experiences, culture, tradition, history, shopping, opportunities to connect with my kids and some R&R for me — with a poolside cocktail or two and at least one great shopping purchase!

I’d already visited the warm Aloha islands twice previously — in my 20s and 30s — and knew that Hawai’i offered all this and more. So it was a no-brainer that of all the places in the world to holiday, Hawai’i was at the top of my list. But, unlike my previous two trips, this time I was travelling as a solo parent with my sons, Maxwell, 13 and Louis, 5.

Here, my play, stay and eats list for an awesome memorable Hawai’ian family holiday that ticks all the boxes.

PLAY

Maxwell and Franki hanging ten at Waikiki.

Hang 10 surfing

We are not a beachy family — and I am not a confident swimmer, nor is Louis. It needs to be 40+ degrees for me to even consider getting into a pool or the ocean. But Waikiki is different. The water is warm, inviting and the waves are perfect for learning to surf.

I know because I learnt to surf on these waves on my first Hawai’ian holiday, in my 20s, and it was one of the most amazing experiences ever. So naturally I wanted my keiki to enjoy the same experience.

We booked in for a private lesson with two instructors at Waikiki Beach Boys Surf Lessons, which is operated from Hawai’i’s most famous (pink) hotel, The Royal Hawaiian. Maxwell and I had one instructor, and Louis was one-on-one with the awesome ‘Bono’. After a quick land-based tutorial and practice run, we were off and running (literally, because the sand’s so hot!).

Maxwell and I both stood up first go! Louis paddle-boarded with Bono and absolutely loved it — even got dunked by a wave, but got straight back on the board for more fun. Of all the experiences we had, this was my favourite. It was a mix of family connection, thrill-seeking, confidence boosting, breaking the daily monotony, and heart-warming, that all three of us summoned the courage to step out of our comfort zones and try something new together.

Louis taking a paddleboard.

Snorkel with turtles and mantas

Our family desperately needed a circuit breaker — to pack away the screens and start ‘living’. And as one of our first activities in Hawai’i, this was the breaker. We did a two-hour catamaran snorkelling and sailing tour with Bike Hawai’i out to Turtle Cove, which, as its namesake suggests, is a playground for endangered turtles. We were lucky enough to see four turtles, a manta and a rainbow of tropical fish.

TIP: Do some practice snorkelling lessons in a pool prior to hitting the reef to build the kids’ confidence. Also, ensure your sunscreen complies with Hawai’i’s reef-safe sunscreen, such as Kokua Sun Care.

And before you book any tours, check the Sustainable Tourism site for certified tour operators, who provide great experiences with minimal environmental footprint and controlled tourist numbers.

Explore the valley of Jurassic dinosaurs

Run for your life! The Kualoa Ranch Jurassic Park Tour was a roar.

Louis is a huge Jurassic and dinosaur fan, so this was probably his favourite experience. The Jurassic Adventure Tour starts at the Kualoa Ranch Private Nature Reserve station (45-60 minute drive from Waikiki), which is where most of the dinosaur displays are (and great photo opportunities). Then, 20-ish tourists board an open-air AWD vehicle that takes you on a 2.5-hour bumpy adventure through the most incredible valleys to explore a range of iconic film sites, some still featuring the original movie props.

The tour includes six stops across two scenic valleys. First stop, a WW2 bunker converted to a movie set museum, with photos of famous movies filmed at Kualoa Ranch since Hollywood began, along with some pretty cool movie set memorabilia and a fierce roaring dinosaur that even Louis was too scared to go near!

Then on through scenic valleys featured as backdrops to some of the Jurassic movie franchise’s famous scenes, a fly-by the Skull Island set (with Kong and skulls) and a stop at the Indominus Rex paddock, complete with dinosaur cages, viewing platform and 60-foot walls to make your own Jurassic-inspired home videos.

TIP: Watch the Jurassic Park movies and Skull Island before the tour.

Take an unrushed dip

Don’t make the mistake of packing activities into every second of your Hawai’ian holiday — schedule time to enjoy the pool and Waikiki beach. Some of my most beautiful memories are playing pool monsters in the Halekulani pool, watching Louis swim underwater for the first time at the Outrigger Reef pool, and absorbing the cool vibes (a hotel fave for cool American tribes) and light show (incredible show projected onto a building) from Alohilani’s rooftop infinity pool and bar, complete with live music.

And my favourite family moment of all? Waikiki beach. The boys were nestled into a giant inflatable pool lilo together, and I chauffeured them through the waves.

The Alohilani Resort rooftop pool, bar, live music and art projection were a highlight of this hotel.

Immerse yourself in the history, culture and traditions

Spend a day and night at the Polynesian Cultural Center, which is set out across vast grounds (take good walking shoes!) and comprises six Polynesian island villages.

Our package included the Island Villages, Luau and Dinner, and Evening Performance. It’s a big day (12-9pm) with a lot of ground to cover and LOADS of action to both watch and ‘do’, but I highly recommend this experience. Alternatively, you can book each experience separately – but do them all if you can!

The Polynesian Cultural Center is a must-see.

The Island Villages

Each village includes arts, crafts, traditions, performances, displays and interactive activities. Maxwell and Louis did spear throwing, fishing, keiki island games, learned to play the ukulele, covered themselves in islander tattoos, did newspaper printing and learned to weave palm leaves, but there are loads more, including hula dancing.

There are islander performances, which combine music, song, dance, costumes and culture with great traditional storytelling.

We took a guided canoe ride through the grounds first, so we could plan out our day and get a good overview of the villages, but you can also do guided group tours.

Polynesian Cultural Center buffet and entertainment included traditional song, dance and storytelling.

The lĆ«Ê»au and dinner

Our package included the authentic lĆ«Ê»au – a traditional Hawai’ian feast and show featuring traditional dancers, singers and storytelling. What makes this lĆ«Ê»au even more special is the Polynesian Cultural Centre is the only lĆ«Ê»au where you eat the pig that is prepared in the imu (a traditional Hawai’ian underground oven).

The buffet is a great opportunity to try a vast array of traditional dishes including poi (a paste made from taro), kālua puaʻa, poke (marinated sashimi with salad), lomi salmon, ahi ahi and a rich selection of tropical fruits and desserts, all created under the direction of Chef Graham Elliot.

The evening show

We were blown away by the incredible show, HA: Breath of Life! Staged at an amphitheatre, the show brings to life a moving story through song, dance, costume, theatrics, and fire performances, taking audiences on a journey across the Pacific. We learnt about the different island cultures, traditions, great ancient voyagers and the universal truth, life and death. The kids were absolutely enthralled, despite it going to 9pm (two hours past Louis’ bedtime).

Care for the land

As tourists, we’re usually thinking about what our holiday can do for us, but responsible tourism and a more meaningful holiday can actually be achieved by giving back to the location — listening to locals, understanding the past and present, learning about the land and
getting your feet muddy!

Admittedly, I was a little worried my kids wouldn’t engage with the two-hour Mālama Experience (mālama refers to ‘taking care of’ the land) — which embraces the importance of sustainability and how mother earth, and the lands are interconnected. But we all loved it!

Maxwell cracked open a coconut and drank the milk, both trawled through muddy taro ponds plucking dead leaves, searching for apple snail eggs to crush (disturbingly therapeutic crunching their shells to ensure the taro plants survive), catching tadpoles, and learning about the valleys, the water sources, the land, habit, ocean and people, and how they are all interconnected to provide and sustain life.

The Care For The Land Tour

Plant a tree

Still on this note, there’s a real ground swell in Hawai’i moving towards ‘mālama’ and responsible, sustainable tourism. It’s well worth factoring in at least one Mālama experience — you’ll feel just as good giving as Hawai’i feels receiving.

At Alohilani Resort, Hawai’i’s first carbon-neutral hotel, guests can book a special tree planting experience at Gunstock Ranch on O’ahu’s famed North Shore. Each tree planted is tagged with an individual radio-frequency identification chip that records everything from its health to the story of its planting. Guests who plant a tree – to commemorate a wedding, as a gift to a child, or in memory of a loved one – can track the tree throughout its lifetime.

Kualoa Ranch, where one of many Hollywood blockbusters has been filmed including Jurassic Park.

Shopping

Definitely one of the boys’ favourite activities, the arcade. The arcade is at the Ala Moana Centre.

The main strip, Kalakaua Avenue, is bursting with luxury designer stores. It’s got great energy, but not really suitable for shopping with kids in-tow. However, there are a few arcades that segway off worth a visit. One, The Royal Hawai’ian Centre, has a mix of cool sneaker shops and limited edition pop culture pieces (interesting for teenagers), local Hawai’ian designer clothing, artworks, crafts, and foods (Maui chocolate, Kona coffee), a great food court and the global luxury designers, if you are so inclined!

The Ala Moana Centre is the mega centre (think Chadstone Shopping Centre), which has a mix of affordable, novelty, unique, department stores and designer. As well as several food courts.

The Waikiki Premium factory outlets: We bought up big at the factory outlets last trip, but they’re out of town and you need a full day. It wasn’t on my priority list this time round.

What else can you do?

Here’s a list of activities worth considering, which I’d done on previous trips to Hawai’i.

Pearl Harbour: The kids will love the submarines and rocket displays, and the parents will be totally moved by the tragic WW2 events that took place here.

Volcano exploration: There are no active volcanoes on the island of O’ahu but Bishop Museum has an ‘active volcano’ in their science adventure centre, and Diamond Head has a crater you can hike.

STAY

We stayed at three hotels, each unique and offering a different type of family experience. I always stay at multiple hotels when holidaying because the hotel is as much a part of the experience as the destination.

Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort

Spacious rooms, great vibes, great views and a great place to stay. Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort.

Why you’ll love it: It’s bang-on Waikiki Beach, has a great outdoor family pool and three ‘hot tubs’, and is a ten-minute walk from the main strip, Kalakaua Avenue. The hotel had a recent major renovation, so it’s fresh and sparkly new.

The Vibe: Relaxed, family-friendly, inclusive. The rooms and hallways are filled with artworks depicting Hawai’ian history, tradition, sea life and contemporary culture – it’s like a museum of past and present!

I spoke to many guests who were all repeat patrons, saying they loved the friendly staff, location and hotel facilities. I would definitely stay at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort and other Outrigger hotels again after this experience.

TIP: Club-level rooms come with ‘Voyager 47 Club Lounge’ access, which includes free locally-inspired breakfasts, Kona coffee, sunset cocktails, craft beers and nibbles from 4-6pm daily.

Halekulani

Why you’ll love it: More formal and luxurious, Halekulani has an elevated, sanctuary-like feeling, with spacious, beautiful rooms, vast lush green grass grounds, ample shaded outdoor seating areas with water features, and poolside ‘check in’ required.

The Halekulani resort pool…

… and the view from our Halekulani room, which included the pool, Waikiki beach and Diamond Head.

Location: The hotel and pool are right on Waikiki beach, and just one bock (10-minute walk) away from Kalakaua.

The rooms at Halekulani are modern, fresh and luxe.

The hotel’s famous signature restaurant, House Without A Key, refers to the welcoming ‘doors are open’ vibe. Sunset cocktails at the restaurant while listening to traditional musicians and watching a hula performer, with the beach as the backdrop, are a must.

The vibe: Luxe, picture-perfect setting, beautiful, formal.

The House Without A Key restaurant at Halekulani resort is one of the most iconic restaurants in Waikiki. Make a reservation for sunset cocktails and be entertained by traditional musicians and hula performers and enjoy beachside local fare.

The House Without A Key restaurant at Halekulani resort caters for adults and children with a host of signature dishes.

Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach

Alohilani cabanas… the perfect place to listen to live entertainment poolside.

Located bang in the shopping strip and restaurant action and across the road from Waikiki beach, Alohilani Resort is the first carbon-neutral hotel in Hawai’i. The recent refurbishment has resulted in a grand, decadent and impressive entrance, complete with soaring ceilings, contemporary local artist artworks, as well as historical tributes to Queen Liliuokalani, who was overthrown on January 16, 1893, when United States troops invaded the Hawai’ian Kingdom, and past prominent figures dotted throughout public spaces.

The piece de resistance is the Oceanarium, which the kids will love, and the video art (light show projection) by artist Joseph Pa’ahana and the pool, complete with cabanas, pool-immersed sun lounges and live music at Swell Bar.

The standard two-bedroom rooms are not very spacious, so if you have a family, it might be worth upgrading to a suite.

The vibe: The hotel seemed to cater for a young, cool US tourist market crowd – there were plenty of small groups of friends and families holidaying together. This made for really interesting people-watching (even their swimsuits are fabulous!)

Alohilani’s Oceanarium is a hit with the kids.

EATS

The whipped Acai bowl at the Alohilani Resort; ‘Voyager 47 Club Lounge access afternoon snacks at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort and Save Ice.

Great restaurants, icons, diners, drinks and foods to try

Denny’s

It doesn’t get any more American than the 24-hour diner Denny’s. Serving pancakes, burgers, and fries with the option to ‘upsize’ every meal with irresistible additions from pancakes to bacon strips and the occasional fruit salad option, the kids will love it.

Louis loving Denny’s pancakes.

Shave ice

A must Hawai’ian dessert! But not all shave ice is created equally. The Island Vintage Shave Ice shack, located out the front of the Royal Hawaiian Centre on Kalakaua Boulevarde, was the best Shave Ice we had (and we had a few!). It’s basically shaved ice with syrups over ice cream. Heaven!

A lĆ«Ê»au and a kālua

The Polynesian Cultural Center luau.

Pig prepared in an imu (traditional earth oven) might not go down well with the kids, but the buffet and show are a must-see. As well as the Polynesian Cultural Centre (see above), Disney Aulani and Hilton Hawaiian Village offer similar experiences with a traditional show.

Poke bowls

I ate Poke bowls almost daily. They are sensational!

Fresh salmon or ahi ahi with salad and rice, I lived on these!

Farm-to-plate and local produce

There’s a real movement in Hawai’i to promote sustainable, local produce, and there’s plenty to choose from, including Ahi (tuna) and Lomi Lomi (salmon), Kona coffee, Maui chocolate, macadamias, farm-to-glass Kƍ Hana Rum.

Alohilani resort also features an Earth to Cup menu, a sustainable food and cocktail series at Swell cantered around locally sourced products. Dishes include Spicy Kauai Shrimp Satay and Molokai Beef Filet Carpaccio, but enquire at every eatery and you’ll usually find a dish that’s local.

Spam musabi

Musabi eateries aplenty.

I couldn’t bring myself to eat the American favourite, ‘Spam’ aka. Ham in a tin, but these Musabi cafĂ©s are everything and well worth a look in.

Kona coffee

I tried one Starbucks coffee and, well, it wasn’t my thing. Instead, drink the local brew, Kona coffee! There’s the Honolulu Coffee Experience Center in WaikÄ«kÄ«, a Coffee Gallery at North Shore Marketplace and Kai Coffee Hawaii, which has an extensive menu of specialty artisan roasted Hawai’ian coffee options.

Mac with cheese

Not Hawai’ian, but very American! My kids both loved this, although it was prepared on the spot at Alohilani’s Voyager Club Lounge chef, so it was of quality standard!

Fun pack breakfast cereals

I normally won’t buy the sugar-packed cereals, but we did bring back a mini cereal fun pack and I wish I bought more. I have never seen the kids get out of bed so quickly to eat breakfast!

Hawaii was a real sugar hit for myself and my two boys, and one that I’d highly recommend for any family wanting ‘it all’. We stayed for 10 nights, which allowed enough time to do a wide range of activities and rest and relax.

Jessica Alba’s eldest daughter, Honor Marie, recently celebrated her milestone 16th birthday on 7 June, and the actress marked the occasion with a touching social media tribute.

“My sweet 16 year old Honor ❀,” she began.

“I’m crying writing this – it’s the most tender feeling in the world being your mom. Your sweet but wise disposition from day one – only allowing those who you trust closest to you – is inspiring.”

Jessica went on to gush over all of Honor’s key personality traits including her softness, silly side, authenticity, and kind and caring nature.

She continued, “You are a powerhouse of a human and you are only 16! We are all so blessed my baby and I feel tremendously grateful for our relationship – for our bond. You chose me to be your mama baby girl – it has been the greatest gift my angel. I love you more than words could ever express. You are growing up way too fast for me đŸ„ș but I couldn’t be more proud.”

Alongside this heartwarming post was a carousel of images of Honor throughout different stages of her life, leading up to now.

Many of these photos were of the now-16-year-old next to her mother and the pair look almost identical.

Fans and fellow celebrities were quick to take to the comment section to not only wish Honor a happy birthday, but also to express their thoughts on the mother-daughter duo’s likeness to one another.

“You look like her sister,” one person commented, while another shared, “Your absolute mini version of yourself, now not so mini anymore.”

Another fan added, “So beautiful, she’s your twin.”

Honor is the eldest of Jessica Alba’s three children, whom she shares with husband Cash Warren.

The couple have another daughter, Haven, who was born in August 2011, as well as a son, Hayes, who they welcomed in December 2017.

While Jessica loves being a mother, she has also expressed what she finds difficult about parenthood.

“The hardest part about being a parent is allowing your kids to make a mistake and knowing when it is going to be too hard or too much and then you’re like, I guess nothing’s too much,” she said on the Raising Good Humans podcast.

Australian Olympic swimming royalty Giaan Rooney’s life looks very different now compared to when she retired from the sport in 2006.

Nowadays, the 41-year-old lives on a farm with her husband and two beautiful children.

Giaan on her wedding day. (Image: Instagram)

Giaan has been married to husband Sam Levett for 12 years. Sam has a long family history of cattle farming, and he currently runs The Herd Online which is an online marketing tool for livestock sales.

The couple have been together since 3 December 2011, and have gone on to welcome two children together.

Their eldest child is a son named Zander who was born on 15 March 2014. Meanwhile, the pair’s second child is a daughter named Lexi who they welcomed on 14 June 2017.

The family of four currently live on a macadamia farm in Queensland, and love embracing life on the land.

So when she’s not commentating at a pinnacle swimming event, Giaan spends her time farming, spending time with her family and taking care of her dog and pet wallaby!

Although she lives in the country with her family, Giaan’s job as a sports commentator requires her to travel to various cities around the country and the globe.

The swimming legend has recently spoken about the “mixed emotions” she experiences when coming up to a major event she is working at, as she has to leave her family for a long stretch of time.

“As always, the anticipation is always worse than once I am actually away, as I swallow my guilt of leaving by cooking & freezing meals, washing every item in the washing basket, stocking fridges/pantries/freezers, changing sheets & pre-packing sports bags for after school activities – not because it is expected (my husband is much better at solo parenting than I am) but because I need to feel like I am still contributing to my family’s wellbeing whilst I am away,” part of her Instagram post read.

The two-time Olympian will be part of Nine’s expert commentary team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games which will take place from 26 July to 11 August this year.

Giaan Rooney first made her international swimming debut for Australia at the age of 15 at the 1998 Commonwealth Games where she won two gold medals, and she then went on to compete at the 2000 Sydney Olympics where she won two silver medals

The now-41-year-old won a gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and she retired from competitive swimming after the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Hero husky saved my life https://www.nowtolove.com.au/news/real-life/hero-husky-saved-my-life/ Wed, 05 Jun 2024 07:32:40 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=515323 Max the hero husky saved his owner's life after she'd been in a terrible accident

The post Hero husky saved my life appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
It was one of my favourite parts of the day, when I walked my husky, Max, around our neighbourhood, the sun shining down on us.

“It’s such a beautiful day,” I told him.

He barked in agreement before tugging on the lead, eager to meet new people that he could stop and have a cuddle with.

Though wolf-like in appearance, he was a teddy bear at heart.

My partner, David, and I had got him in March 2018, when he was 12 weeks old, and he settled into our home perfectly.

He was cheeky, and loved testing the limits of what he could do – like snuggling with us on the couch or the bed – but we loved him for it.

Shaune Symes and her dog Max

Now, he was 18 months old, with bundles of energy. Once we’d finished our walk, we headed back towards home.

We were around 200m away, when suddenly I felt a thud on my back and everything went black.

When I came around, I was in the hospital, covered in wires. David was by my bedside.

“What happened?” I croaked. I couldn’t remember a thing.

David explained a woman had been driving down the quiet road where Max and I were walking when her vehicle lost control, mounted the pavement and hit me, propelling me head-first into a rock wall, cracking my skull open and exposing my brain.

The wall was surrounded by trees and bushes, meaning my lifeless body was hidden from sight from anyone walking past.

The vehicle had eventually crashed onto its roof further down the road.

Fortunately, Max had escaped unharmed.

Realising I needed help, our clever boy ran home to raise the alarm.

Max the Husky

He pawed at the door until David opened it.

“He was covered in your blood, and I knew something must have happened to you,” David told me.

When I didn’t answer my phone, he grabbed Max’s lead and let him lead the way.

Before reaching me, David came across the police at the scene where the driver had crashed.

“Please, help me. I can’t find my partner!” he shouted to them.

With the help of Max, they found me hidden behind a tree, unconscious and bleeding from my injuries.

The ambulance arrived and took me to the hospital, where I was put in an induced coma for 27 days.

I’d sustained a traumatic brain injury and needed to go through an 11-hour reconstructive surgery because every bone in my face was broken.

My neck, pelvis and wrist were all fractured, too, plus my liver was ruptured. I also had five of my bottom teeth knocked out.

“You wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for Max,” David told me, teary-eyed.

Shaune Symes and her dog Max

The paramedics said if I’d been left there 10 minutes more, I’d be dead. Max had saved my life.

Over the next few weeks, I was in ICU and then the neurology ward, slowly healing. I couldn’t see Max at that time as he wasn’t allowed inside the hospital.

“How is he?” I asked David.

“He’s worried,” David replied. “He keeps looking for you.”

My heart ached for him. When I was finally well enough to be moved to the brain injury rehabilitation unit, David brought Max to visit me in the outside grounds.

Seeing me, he sprinted over and jumped right into my arms.

“Mummy’s okay,” I told him through my tears. “All thanks to you.”

It was a precious moment. I never wanted to let him go.

I got home from my three-month stay in the hospital right before Christmas.

The recovery was long, but having Max by my side helped me to cope.

In time, the driver pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention causing grievous bodily harm.

She was sentenced to two months jail, suspended for nine months.

Max the Husky

Then, in September of 2021, I received wonderful news.

“I’m pregnant,” I told David.

We had been trying for a while, and I’d just come back from seeing the doctor for nausea.

Other than gestational diabetes and having to take medication to prevent blood clots, I had a healthy pregnancy.

On May 5, 2022, we welcomed our beautiful son, Isaac.

When I introduced him to Max for the first time, my heart was bursting with love.

“He’s here because of you,” I told Max.

Shaune Symes with her son Isaac and Max

For his bravery, Max was awarded the Animal Hero Award by the RSPCA in 2020 for saving my life.

We were all so proud of him.

Tragically, Max passed away at five and a half years old after a series of health issues, leaving us devastated.

Isaac’s now two, and we tell him stories about our hero dog, Max.

We’ll never forget what he did for our family.

Bindi Irwin is never one to shy away from opening her heart on Instagram. The wildlife warrior recently took to the popular social media site to express her affection for her husband Chandler Powell.

You can see Bindi’s secret tattoo here. Can you spot it? (Image: Instagram)

A WEDDING RING IN BLOOM

In a picture with her hand placed gently on his chest as he wraps his arm around her, the couple both smiling, she writes in the caption: “I fall in love with you more every day.”

It’s here we’re given a glimpse of a sweet tattoo on Bindi’s wedding-ring finger. Appearing to be an image of a vine, Bindi has previously suggested the ink takes the place of a physical wedding band.

An Instagram post from January 7, 2022 hinted at the ring, where Bindi captioned the photo: “My beautiful wedding ring in bloom.” However, she never shows it.

While she and Powell wed in March 2020, this is the first time we’ve spotted this unique tribute on her finger.

The same post also showed off Bindi’s other tattoo, a crocodile with the words ‘graceful warrior’ written in the style of her late father Steve Irwin’s handwriting.

‘MY GRACEFUL WARRIOR’

Steve was just 44 when he died at the mercy of a stingray barb, which pierced him in the chest during filming.

“The words I spoke to our daughter as I held her for the first time in my arms where ‘my graceful warrior,’” Bindi captioned. “That’s how her name was born. This is my dad’s handwriting to keep him with me always.”

Such a beautiful tribute.

Grace Warrior Irwin Powell is the couple’s first child. Grace was born on March 25, 2021 – she arrived on the couple’s one-year wedding anniversary.

True to form, Bindi took to Instagram to make tribute to this special occasion, made even more so by their daughter’s birth. She writes: “March 25, 2021. Celebrating the two loves of my life. Happy first wedding anniversary to my sweetheart husband and day of birth to our beautiful daughter. ❀ Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. Our graceful warrior is the most beautiful light,” Bindi mused of her daughter’s birth.

“There are no words to describe the infinite amount of love in our hearts for our sweet baby girl. She chose the perfect day to be born and we feel tremendously blessed.”

Australian actress Naomi Watts is a busy woman. Not only due to her career, but also because she’s a mum of two.

The 55-year-old shares her children with her former partner, Liev Schreiber and the pair now happily co-parent and have a successful blended family dynamic.

Naomi and Liev, 56, were together from 2005 to 2016, and during that time welcomed two beautiful children.

The couple’s first child Sasha Schreiber, was born in 2007, while their second child Kai was born just over a year later in 2008.

Despite ending their romantic relationship after 11 years in 2016, Naomi and Liev have been open about how they maintain a close friendship and how they are prioritising their kids.

“We’re doing things very differently. I’m pretty proud of us, corny as that may sound,” Naomi told Net-a-Porter in August 2019. “We’ve made it our absolute priority to be good and kind to each other and we’re absolutely committed to that.”

Since their amicable split, the two actors have spent plenty of time together, many of their reunions being documented.

In 2020, they appeared in a TikTok video alongside Sasha and Kai, and in 2022 Naomi uploaded a photo to Instagram of the four of them together as well as both of their new partners, Billy Crudup and Taylor Neisen. The group celebrated Kai’s middle school graduation and proved that they all get along well.

Below, we detail everything we know about Naomi Watts’ children, Sasha and Kai.

Sasha Schreiber was born on 25 July 2007 and was a little miracle for Naomi who admitted how difficult it was for her to conceive at a later age.

She told InStyle in 2022 that she didn’t realise 35 “was a really late time to start thinking about getting pregnant”. The now 55-year-old tried many different methods to increase her fertility and “started looking into other possible alternative routes”.

According to Naomi, Sasha is extremely passionate about nature and has participated in multiple events, such as climate strikes and beach clean-ups.

“I’m proud of my boy for taking a stand with his classmates today, using their voices, and demanding a better future for themselves and their children […] A lot of little voices will be heard when they shout together!,” Naomi shared alongside a photo of Sasha from a climate protest in 2019.

Naomi marked Sasha’s milestone 16th birthday with a loving tribute on social media, uploading a carousel of images of her eldest child over the years.

“Happy 16th to my darling boy … Beyond proud of the young man you’ve become with the most wonderful spirit, fantastic sense of humour and kind, compassionate soul. So lucky I get to be your mum,” she captioned the post.

Naomi and Liev’s youngest child, Kai Schreiber, was born on 13 December 2008. The King Kong actress told InStyle that she always knew she “wanted to have more than one child” after she had Sasha the year prior.

Kai has an interest in the arts, with the 15-year-old attending performance arts camp, performing in dance conventions as well as joining Naomi at New York Fashion Week and sitting front row at a Dior show in 2024.

In tribute to her youngest child’s most recent birthday, Naomi uploaded a photo of the teenager, writing, “Happy birthday my sweet little angel. You are everything to me. I’m so lucky to be your mum. Keep dancing and showing the world your dynamic and glorious spirit. ❀-🌙.”

Naomi has admitted she tries to be a “supermum” to her two kids, but she sometimes struggles to balance her career and personal life.

“Sometimes you feel like you’re a supermom — baking [a] cake, playing board games and teaching them how to use the vacuum cleaner; you’re just fully on top of it,” the actress told Hamptons magazine in 2020.

“And other times, you’re like, ‘Oh God, just let me hand them the devices and let me get done what I need to do,’ you know?”

She added, “That’s just the reality, and you have to forgive yourself on the days that you need to take that time for yourself and create that space.”

They were competing for a role, but Tai Hara and Fely Irvine found love instead https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/tai-hara-fely-irvine-family/ Wed, 29 May 2024 06:18:29 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=514560 Maybe love is just around the corner?

The post They were competing for a role, but Tai Hara and Fely Irvine found love instead appeared first on Now To Love.

If everything good comes it two, then we can put faith former Home and Away’s Tai Hara and Hi-5’s Fely Irvine.

Two years after a romantic proposal at a wintry Scottish castle, the television sweethearts said ‘I do’ in a beautiful clifftop wedding ceremony – four years after the anniversary of their meeting.

(Image: Instagram)

On February 6, 2017, Tai shared an image with his at-the-time new wife with the caption: “Nothing compares.”

Tai and Fely met while auditioning for Australia’s child entertainment group, Hi-5 roughly in 2013. Fely landed the role, but Tai did not and despite this, there was no bad blood between the pair in fact there was only a spark.

“We seem to do everything in two-year intervals,” Fely told New Idea in 2017. “Perhaps there will be a baby in another two years!”

Kid-free, the pair travelled the globe with Tai regularly sharing photos from their adventures to Instagram. They didn’t take a moment to rest until 2020 when Fely was revealed to be pregnant with their first child.

The pair announced the news with a heart-warming video of Fely singing while Tai played the guitar, when it faded out to the message: “Can’t wait to meet you baby irvine hara.”

On October 15, 2020, Tai announced the arrival of his daughter Chi.

A few months after celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary, Fely shared they were expecting a new addition to the family. January 27, 2023, Tai announced the baby boys arrival, “our little summer baby, Soleil.”

Tai and Fely are no doubt experiencing many ‘firsts’ as parents, but as a couple, they experienced the first time working together on Colin From Accounts.

In the Binge comedy series, Tai plays Ashley’s (Harriet Dyer) ex-boyfriend, James. In the first season, his character shared a sneaky kiss with nurse, Tessa played by his real-life wife.

“Fel and I actually haven’t had the chance to work together professionally, so it was our first chance to do that. It was absolutely amazing,” Tai told news.com.au.

“It’s always so much fun to get to do anything with the person you love
That was a bit of fun too, a little bit of role-play there.”

Before their status as parents, Fely and Tai travelled the globe, sharing all their favourite memories to Instagram. The travel bug didn’t pass when they welcomed Chi. Here is a beautiful picture of three visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy.

Before Tai and Fely welcomed their daughter, Chi it was just “three” with their little pooch.
