Have you ever wanted to live like a TV star? With these homes, you can. It’s always fun to take a peak into the lives of celebrities, but have you ever wondered just what it’s like to take a look inside your favourite Aussie TV star’s getaways?

living room of Aussie TV star Megan Gale's Airbnb

These Airbnb’s will have you booking your next dreamy coastal or country getaway as quickly as you can click checkout!

We’ve gathered Airbnb’s from the likes of Karl Stefanovic to Samantha Armytage and a few in between.

With a Dollywood-themed pink Airbnb to a Hamptons-style beachside escape, these getaways will have you frothing at how the other side lives and now you can pay a visit too.

SAMANTHA ARMYTAGE’S BEACHSIDE HAVEN

Forget Farmer Wants A Wife, the TV presenter has swapped her country roots to transform her coastal cottage Airbnb located in the gorgeous seaside location of Hyams Beach, Jervis Bay. With tasteful interiors and a big beautiful deck overlooking the water, it secures $1200 a night on Airbnb. The chic beachfront shack boasts an all-white colour palette for a cool, Hamptons-inspired feel.

Sam, 47, has completely refreshed the interior and redid the home’s previous nautical theme, enhancing its charm and style. Perfect for a getaway with friends or the whole family, three bedrooms on the property make for a spacious retreat, sleeping six total.

She has also snapped up a property near her home in Bowral. The $1.3 million 1960s home with three bedrooms has a timber-style kitchen and a “gloriously overgrown garden” and is a 12-minute drive from the home she shares with her husband Richard Lavender.

When Sam has recovered from her recent surgery, she’ll surely be back into the renovations!

MEGAN GALE’S DOLLYWOOD ESCAPE

Old Hollywood glamour meets Dolly Parton in this Airbnb fit for a model! Located in Victorian spa town Daylesford, Megan’s pink palace is filled with Palm Springs-inspired style. Megan, 48, has enjoyed this holiday pad since 2018 when she stayed with her family and now has opened up the chance for the general public to book into Dollywood too.

Recently renovated, the 1940s cottage is a beautiful bungalow of charm and old-school flair with a record player and built-in speakers throughout the house. With four bedrooms, it’s perfect for families and sleeps up to six people.

You can enjoy treetop views and a short walk to Vincent Street, famously known for Mill Markets and Lake Daylesford. Why not holiday like a supermodel in the countryside of Victoria!

EDWINA BARTHOLOMEW’S WARRAMBA HOUSE

She’s TV’s reigning reno queen having already transformed an amazing 1890s farmhouse in the Greater Blue Mountains and now Edwina, 41, is bravely converting a tired, crumbling 177-year-old building in Carcoar, Central NSW, into a stunning boutique hotel.

Sitting on 100 acres of pristine land in Glen Alice, her first project Warramba is a three-bedroom property surrounded by wildlife and full of warmth and style. Renovated in 2017, the Airbnb’s country charm remains with added modern furnishings and picturesque backdrops of the Blue Mountains. There’s even a mineral pool out back for cooling down in the summer or heating up in the winter.

Meanwhile, Eddy’s hubby Neil Varcoe is masterminding the build of their second property, Saltash Farm, and is living on site until it’s complete, with plans to open in March 2025. With their flair for interiors and love of heritage buildings, we can’t wait!

KARL AND JASMINE STEFANOVIC’S BYRON VILLA

Karl Stefanovic regularly escapes the grind of breakfast TV with trips up to the Sunshine Coast, and it’s easy to see why Karl and wife Jasmine love it! No doubt Jasmine – who hosted her milestone 40th birthday up there – had a hand in the styling of their holiday home.

The five-bedroom, five-bathroom villa, available to book on Airbnb, sits on top of a cliff overlooking Noosa’s Sunshine Beach. Lovingly called Villa Isabelle, it’s “architecturally designed” and comfortably sleeps 12, making it the perfect beach pad for large groups looking for a luxe seaside location dripping in style and modern interiors.

The inside of the home is spread over three huge levels, designed for entertaining, with views of the golden sands, an open plan kitchen, a large dining and living area and sliding doors allowing for access to the pool and outdoor entertaining areas. We can see Karl, 49, cracking open a case of VB right there!

Your July 2024 garden guide for the Australian winter starts now! https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/july-winter-gardening-guide/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 05:08:31 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519565 Adam Woodhams reveals his mid-winter gardening tips and tricks.

The post Your July 2024 garden guide for the Australian winter starts now! appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
With the shortest day of the year behind us you can bet one thing, spring is on the near horizon! For much of the country however, we do still have the coldest couple of months to get through. If you’ve been planning some big garden projects – paving a deck, pathways or a pond – anything that involves a bit more hard work, then now is the perfect time to get cracking without breaking too much of a sweat.

Things to do

Pruning plants can be done now, however it’s all about the timing. Ideally this should only be done at a time when newer buds won’t be impacted by frost, so if your area is prone to late frosts hold off for a month or so.

If heavy frost sets in you can still prune wisteria (take them back to just above nice fuller buds), crepe myrtles (if you’re keeping them smaller) and grape vines. Sasanqua camellias will benefit from a light haircut if they’ve finished flowering and you can also start pruning roses (we’ll have more details on rose pruning in August).

Try and avoid pruning any spring-flowering plants, spring-flowering fruit trees and deciduous shrubs, aside from removing any dead or damaged branches.

What to plant

Now is the perfect time to plant any deciduous trees, from spring-flowering fruit trees to maple trees. When planting, cut the branches back by around one third with a sharp pair of secateurs.

Did you know that there are three main groups of camellias that we grow in Australia? The ones coming into flower now are the classic Japonicas. With amazing flowers in a dazzling range of forms and colours, they’ll be popping up in nurseries now.

If you are looking for some wonderful, old-fashioned, larger, annual colour, then look out for ‘Russell’ lupins (Lupinus polyphyllus cultivars) as seedlings or advanced potted-colour plants. Lupins have tall, cylindrical flower spikes covered from top to bottom in masses of small blooms. They do have rather sensitive roots so take care to not disturb the root ball when planting.

The Vegie Patch

It’s very much the season of ‘steady as you go’ in the vegie patch right now. If you’re keen on growing, rhubarb crowns are available for planting, and if you’re in the sub-tropics or warmer then yes, it’s tomato time! Other vegetables to plant include:

 • Onions
 • Peas
 • Shallots
 • Silverbeet
 • English spinach (true spinach)
 • Broad beans
 • Cabbage
 • Winter lettuce varieties.

Flowering now

Although we associate them with spring blossoms, a number of flowering fruit trees – apricot, quince and peach – will come into bloom. In full flower surrounded by a carpet of fallen petals they are truly gorgeous things.

In coastal and other warm areas some of the deciduous magnolias (mostly Magnolia x soulangeana varieties) will show their first blooms. This means they’ll be available to buy in your local nursery too. Deep magenta varieties such as ‘Vulcan’ will add serious wow to your winter garden.

Proteas are often mistaken for Aussie natives, such as banksias and waratahs, and they are in fact from the same family. Proteas hail mainly from South Africa and are reaching their flowing peak now. They’re very robust and reliable, producing masses of flowers once established, however they do need extremely good drainage.

Clivias (Clivia miniata cultivars), another South African native, are just starting to bloom now too. Most often with salmon-coloured flowers, they are available in vibrant oranges, rarer reds, cream and even very collectable green shades and ‘painted’ pastels. They form a low clump with handsome, long, deep green tropical-look foliage and they are a shade lover. That combo of characteristics is their super power – in the depths of winter they bring gorgeous splashes of colour to shady spots in the garden. For something super collectable look out for the varieties with variegated foliage.

Winter is also prime flowering time for many of our natives, especially grevilleas and banksias. Apart from looking fabulous, they give us an abundance of food for birds and other wildlife.

Fabulous display of spring blooms - old-fashioned Lenten Roses or Hellebores!
Lenten Roses also known as Hellebores (Image: Getty)

New in the nursery

Bring some welcome colour with these two varieties you’ll currently find in garden centres!

Grevillia ‘Flaming Red’

An abundance of intense red flowers on a neat shaped small to medium shrub. Its lengthy flowering period (autumn, winter and into spring) adds a pop of colour when you need it most. It’s reasonably compact, so is good for pots too. Local wildlife and pollinators will love you for adding this to the yard!

Hellebore ‘Vibey Velvet’

Hellebores (often called the winter rose) feature stunning magenta-red blooms from winter into spring, and they make for great cut flowers as well. Their marbled foliage provides extra visual texture in shady spots. All this on a compact plant that only reaches about 50cm tall and wide. For info visit pma.com.au

Olivia Newton-John’s daughter Chloe is heartbroken over the sale of her mum’s Santa Ynez home https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/homes/olivia-newton-john-widower-lists-home/ Tue, 18 Jun 2024 03:17:25 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=515939 She shares so many memories with her mum there.

Olivia Newton-John’s widower John Easterling has made the difficult decision to sell the $13.6 million California ranch where the singer spent her final days.

According to an ONJ insider, the news is “absolutely heartbreaking” for Olivia’s daughter Chloe Rose Lattanzi, 38. “She has so many memories shared with her mum on that ranch.

“The horses, all named by Olivia, ridden by her, the house, the garden, it’s going to be incredibly difficult for Chloe to let this property go.”

Olivia spent her final days in the beautiful Santa Ynez home. (Image: Instagram)

But, says the source, “Sadly, they have no choice. It’s devastating for everyone, but this is a money issue. The maintenance on the estate and the annual tax bill is crazy.”

“To keep that ranch would have financially impacted all the good work being done by Olivia’s charities and foundations. They made a promise to her they’d keep saving lives.

“She wanted her legacy to be about her philanthropic work. And she wanted it to continue after she had gone. There will be a few tears shed when this place sells, but it’s what Olivia would have wanted.”

FULFILLING OLIVIA’S DREAM

John and Chloe, who admits the passing of her mum is still raw, are carrying on the singer’s final wishes.

They are continuing to help others with cancer through the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne.

The organisation provides much-needed support for cancer patients and funding for research on plant medicine for cancer. To do this, it needs a steady stream of income.

So as hard as it may be to let go, John has admitted that in addition to the sale of the home, some of Olivia’s items from the ranch will also be sold.

John tells PEOPLE, “Besides some of the personal effects that Chloe and I are keeping, many of Olivia‘s treasures will be sold at a Julien’s Auctions later this year.”

He continues, “Part of the proceeds from this auction will go to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund where we’re making historical progress with the research on plant medicine and cancer.

“This was Olivia’s dream, and I promised her I would follow this through.”

WONDERFUL MEMORIES

The ranch arrives on the market almost two years after the Grease star lost her battle to breast cancer. And while John is bidding farewell to the home, he’s holding tight to their memories.

The sunflowers image is thought to be the last picture Olivia had taken at their Santa Ynez home before she passed. (Image: Instagram)

“Olivia and I made many wonderful memories at our home in Florida and the ranch in California. The message that keeps coming through so clearly is to love life, live life, and never forget about the good things that are going on,” John, a naturopathic entrepreneur, tells PEOPLE.

“The ‘Indian Way’ Ranch in Santa Ynez is a spectacular property where I can see a new family having great nature adventures and relishing the life experience.”

The sprawling 12-acre estate fronts the Santa Ynez River and boasts four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. There’s also a pool, outdoor kitchen and two-bedroom guesthouse.

And true to Olivia’s animal-loving nature, the home is a pet-lover’s paradise. The estate features a barn, stable, arena and pastures to keep her fur babies happy.

“I love animals. They give so much to you and demand so little,” Olivia has said. (Image: Instagram)

The late actress was open about her adoration for all living creatures. “At one point, before I had my daughter, I had seven horses, nine dogs and a bunch of cats and chickens,” she shared in a 2022 interview. “But now, I have a dog, a cat, 13 chickens and two miniature horses.”

Olivia beamed with joy when she was around animals. And her spark was witnessed by everyone.

Speaking with The Australian Women’s Weekly in 2021, Chloe said one of the things she admired most about her mum was her ability to “see beauty in everything“.

Why bamboo sheets are the key to a good night’s sleep year round https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/homes/best-bamboo-sheets-australia-78301/ Mon, 17 Jun 2024 05:48:59 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/homes/best-bamboo-sheets-australia-78301 Sleep soundly and naturally.

The post Why bamboo sheets are the key to a good night’s sleep year round appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
What beats the feeling of slipping into a bed of fresh sheets after a long days work? Nothing!

If you’re a connoisseur of a good night’s sleep, you’ve likely tried your hand at cotton sheets, linens, silk, or flannel. But there’s a new kid on the block that’s quickly becoming a favourite among sleep experts and discerning sleepers alike: bamboo sheets.

What are the benefits to bamboo sheets?

Bamboo sheets are made from the fibres of bamboo plants, which are naturally soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic. They’re also incredibly durable and long-lasting, making them a wise investment for your sleep health.

If you’re looking for a way to upgrade your sleep experience, bamboo sheets are a great option. They’ll help you sleep cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, and they’ll have you waking up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

They are also naturally moisture-wicking and antibacterial which means that they’ll help you stay cool and dry all night long, and they’ll help to prevent the growth of bacteria and mould. This is especially important for people who sweat a lot at night or who have allergies.

The best news is that bamboo sheets are also very sustainable. Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that doesn’t require a lot of water or pesticides to grow. This makes bamboo sheets a more environmentally friendly choice than other types of sheets. In fact, bamboo sheets can be considered carbon negative, meaning that they actually remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as they grow.

How do I choose bamboo sheets?

You may be surprised to learn that not all bamboo sheets are created equal, they may also not fit into your needs, style or budget.

When it comes to shopping bamboo sheets it’s helpful to know the tricks of the trade to be able to shop exactly what you’re after.

If you’re happy to splurge out, a bed sheet set made from 100 per cent bamboo threads are guaranteed to be soft and cosy for years to come. However they can be costly and if you want to save a bit whilst still enjoying the benefits of the fabric, look to a blend of bamboo and cotton, rayon or even polyester.

Also consider the the weave you are buying, shop sateen for that silky feeling or twill for your classic cotton style sheet. The thread count will help you determine the softness and quality of your sheets, ideally you’re looking for between 300 to 400.

Most Australians try to spend about eight hours in their beds every night, but we often forget about one of the key elements to bedtime comfort: our sheets.

What are the softest sheets on a budget?

Cotton is often thought to be the softest of bed sheet materials, and luckily they are often super affordable to shop.

When it comes down to it, the key is looking at the thread count of your sheets.

A thread count of between 200 and 800 will certainly provide soft, silky comfort, and choosing the finish of your sheets will also make a difference.

Not only will you be sleeping better on a crisp new sheet set, but your room is guaranteed to look – and feel – better with the addition of new linens.

You can even change up the entire atmosphere in your bedroom by investing in something new and unique, like jewel-tone sheets or bedding with an unexpected print.

The best part is that you don’t even need to have heaps of cash to spare to make the change because there are so many affordable bedding options (like the ones above).

Inside Gwyneth Paltrow’s stunning properties, including her US$30 million windfall https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/homes/gwyneth-paltrow-homes/ Tue, 11 Jun 2024 06:08:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=515806 GP is 'downsizing'.

The post Inside Gwyneth Paltrow’s stunning properties, including her US$30 million windfall appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Gwyneth Paltrow, the force behind the lifestyle brand goop, is no stranger to making headlines. Usually the Oscar-winning actress gets there with her controversial wellness advice. But this time, GP is trending thanks to her stunning home collection.

Well, one home in particular. Gwyneth has recently listed her Brentwood home, where she and Coldplay ex Chris Martin lived during their ‘consciously uncoupling’ era.

The home’s price tag is an eye-watering US$30 million (AU$45 million). Gwyneth paid just under US$10 million (AU$15 million) for it back in 2012.

She’s selling because, apparently, she wants to downsize – not to a smaller home though.

To Gwynnie, downsizing just means having a fewer number of homes… stars, they’re just like us.

Regardless of whether you love her or love to hate her, there’s one thing we can all agree on: Gwyneth has impeccable design chops.

From the sunny coasts of California to the celebrity summer playground known as the Hamptons, here’s an inside look at the properties that make us all wish we were GP.

GWYNETH’S STUNNING HOMES

Gwyneth’s Brentwood home is so dreamy. (Image: realtor.com)

01

The Brentwood windfall

Gwyneth originally purchased this Los Angeles home in 2012. Now that her kids Apple and Moses are college-age, the A-list star has decided to bid farewell to this property in efforts to “downsize”.

Listed for US$30 million (AU$45 million), the six-bedroom house in LA’s Brentwood neighbourhood sits on two-thirds of an acre and is more than 8,000 square feet.

It was built in the 1950s and gutted in 2009 for a full renovation. Gwyneth updated the property in 2022 again, this time adding a one-bedroom guest house.

Key features:

 • A wine cellar
 • Home gym
 • Office
 • Game room
 • Movie theatre
 • Apartment above the garage
Her Montecito home is certainly ‘forever home’ material. (Image: goop)

02

The Montecito “forever house”

Before Gwyneth and her husband Brad Falchuk’sforever house” was built, the just over two-acre land with an ocean-front view was occupied by two dilapidated residences. Gwyneth knocked these down to make way for the ‘Faltrow’ family’s dream home.

She envisioned “a Parisian apartment set within an old European barn, something with high ceilings, flooded with light, a place that feels generous yet manageable at the same time.” Roman and Williams and Romanek Design Studios helped to bring her vision to life.

The property also features an exquisite guest house, where in 2023, Gwyneth teamed up with Airbnb to let two lucky winners stay there.

The property is everything the Iron Man star ever wanted. Gwyneth said, “My Montecito home is my sanctuary for respite and mental clarity. I go there to recharge, to daydream about what we’re building at goop and to reconnect with my family and treasured friends.”

Key features:

 • Sea-blue home spa, complete with an infrared sauna, cold plunge, hot tub and steam room
 • Custom pewter-finished bronze doors
 • Cerulean-blue pool
 • Environmentally conscious design, with solar power and a gray-water system
 • Luxurious guest house

03

The Hamptons getaway

Gwyneth purchased her luxe Hamptons home in 2006. Spanning 7,000 square feet, the home in Amagansett boasts five bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms.

More than a getaway, GP’s fancy Hamptons property has welcomed numerous goop gatherings. Even more, it’s where she and Brad got married. They exchanged their vows in its backyard, near the tree where her late father’s ashes are buried.

While there aren’t many peeks inside, Gwyneth has shown off the property’s gardens on a number occasions. And in one goop exclusive, she welcomed fans inside her home to watch her get “Hamptons” ready.

Key features:

 • Outdoor lap pool
 • Extensive gardens
 • Infrared sauna
 • Outdoor shower house

There is a reason why linen is the homewares essential of the moment.

Particularly in our hot and humid climate down here in Australia, linen sheets are a lifesaver for sweaty sleepers, but year-round they are a stylish alternative to typical cotton sheets.

Considering we spend a third of our lives sleeping, if there is any way to make the bedroom a relaxing oasis then sign us up!

There are so many advantages to choosing linen when it comes to our bedsheets that go beyond just style:

 • Linen is a sustainable material, so for those who are eco-minded, this is a great option to make your bedroom feel a little more green.
 • It is great for any season; yes, it is particularly popular in summer but in winter it acts as an insulator for chilly nights.
 • It’s durable and will last for years to come, which means you can justify spending a little bit more knowing that you’ll get your money’s worth.
 • Part of the appeal of linen is the effortlessly, chic undone look – saving you some time in the morning from the pressure of a perfectly made bed (or so we’re telling ourselves).
 • It’s anti-allergenic, which is a win for those of us with sensitive skin.

Although linen can at times be more expensive than its cheaper-made and less luxurious counterparts, it doesn’t always have to be.

The best affordable linen sheets to upgrade your bedroom

Below, we are taking a look at some of our favourite affordable linen sheets, so you can get your best night’s sleep on a budget.

With winter in full swing, you may be on the hunt for the best heaters to keep your family warm all season long.

If that’s the case you have come to the right place as we are taking a look at the best options on the market to suit any occasion, budget and room in the house. As well as answering some of your burning questions on all things heating.

What is the most efficient heater to heat a room?

You can find out how strong your heater is by looking for the figure in kilowatts or watts to determine what heater to shop.

Obviously it depends on your needs to choose a heater. If you live somewhere particularly cold then you will likely want something that can pump out a bit more warmth, thus using a bit more energy.

Convection heaters that use oil or water are largely considered to be the most efficient heaters for homes. Convection heaters work by transferring heat onto cold air, which then rises and distributes throughout a room. Just ensure to keep windows and doors closed to avoid heat loss, which isn’t very efficient.

What type of heaters are most energy efficient?

Look out for that energy rating on the heater you are wanting to buy to gage it’s power usage first. Panel and column heaters are generally a great option to go for, or for bigger rooms gas heaters certainly fit the bill.

Ultimately, the most energy efficient way to heat your home depends on size, climate and needs.

Below are some tips to make the most out of your heaters while reducing energy waste.

 • Use your heater’s timer. Most modern heaters have the ability to turn on and off at pre-determined times which means you can prevent against them running all night long.

 • Take advantage of the heating from natural daylight when you can. Open blinds and curtains to allow the sun to heat the house for you.

 • Older appliances often have higher energy use. If you can, switch to a more modern appliance that uses less.

 • Keep doors and windows closed while the heater is running.

Winter has certainly dug its icy talons in this year, read on to find our top picks for the best heaters for the season.

How do weighted blankets work?

Weighted blankets work through a therapeutic technique known as deep touch pressure stimulation. These blankets are filled with materials such as glass beads or plastic pellets evenly distributed throughout the fabric. When draped over the body, the gentle pressure mimics the sensation of being held or hugged, triggering the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which are associated with feelings of relaxation and well-being.

Additionally, the pressure helps to reduce levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, promoting a calmer state of mind. This combination of physiological responses results in a soothing effect that can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and insomnia, ultimately promoting deeper and more restful sleep.

Lisa Wilkinson’s TV career is on hiatus but she’s amassed a staggering property portfolio https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/lisa-wilkinson-property/ Mon, 12 Feb 2024 02:08:41 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=504356 Lisa's $70 million payday!

The post Lisa Wilkinson’s TV career is on hiatus but she’s amassed a staggering property portfolio appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>

With multimillion-dollar TV contracts that include the cost of everything from her wardrobe to her dry-cleaning, Lisa Wilkinson has long been one of our highest-paid TV stars.

But who knew she also had a property portfolio that propels her to the top of the celebrity rich list, including one parcel of land in Sydney’s Lower North Shore that is estimated to be worth up to $70 million alone!

Living the good life. (Image: Supplied)

Lisa, 64, and her husband, author and former Wallaby Peter FitzSimons, live in a mansion in Cremorne worth up to $40 million and also own the house next door, which comes with a $20 million price tag.

One leading real estate agent claims that if the two properties were sold as one huge parcel of land, Lisa could net up to $70 million because of its uninterrupted views of Sydney Harbour Bridge that can never be built out.

SITTING ON A GOLDMINE

“They could put whatever price they want on their property,” says one local agent. “The land size for just their own home is enormous – just over 3000sqm – and boasts a gorgeous 1903 home with never-to-be-built-out gun-barrel views of Sydney Harbour and the city and well beyond.

“Considering that a prestige home near their house that sits on a block almost half that size sold for $16.6 million in November 2020, Peter and Lisa’s property would now be worth well in excess of $30 million, if not $40 million.”

Lisa and Peter, 62, have seen their wealth grow since they splashed out $855,000 for their first ever matrimonial home in 1993.

They fell in love with the five-bedroom Mosman Federation mansion, selling it five years later for $1.65 million.

While they almost doubled their money, that home re-sold a few years ago for about $7.5 million, but even so, they’re still laughing all the way to the bank, having paid just $1.45 million for their current home.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, the adjoining house the power couple purchased about 20 years ago added another 1049sqm to the beautifully landscaped block that their home sits on.

“It’s elevated, has 180-degree harbour and city views, and a concealed driveway offering its occupants complete privacy – it’s a one-off, hard to match,” says the local agent. “They made very clever purchases all those years ago!”

‘They made very clever purchases all those years ago’. (Images: Supplied)

INCOME BOOST

Lisa told friends she considered transforming that spare house into an office for Peter, who has authored several successful books, but according to RP Data, it was rented out last year for $2500 a week, boosting their seven-figure annual income.

“This sumptuous and elegant home enjoys views of the Harbour Bridge and city balanced with a private and intimate setting perched on one of Cremorne’s most prestigious addresses,” spruiked Di Jones Real Estate at the time.

BEAUTY & WEALTH

Lisa and Peter have extensively remodelled their own house to create a home of jaw-dropping beauty, including a gigantic “out of this world” master bedroom wing on the second floor that takes full advantage of the million-dollar harbour view.

“It’s massive with five or six bedrooms, but it’s still warm and cosy because of Lisa’s decorating style. She loves antiques and pre-loved furniture and there are rugs and throws everywhere,” confides one friend.

Lisa added to her already impressive property portfolio in 2019 when she bought her late mum Beryl’s one-bedroom Cremorne Point apartment from her brothers Kyle and Brett, who were left a quarter share each.

She paid them $275,000 each, so the property is easily worth more than $1.1 million. She rents it out for $770 a week.

And while Lisa hasn’t been on TV for more than a year, Ten is understood to still be paying her rumoured $1.7 million annual salary, even though she stepped down from her co-host role on The Project in November 2022 after a series of legal controversies.

Her incredible wealth and glitzy lifestyle, including regular trips to France and Italy, and driving a $124,000 Audi A7 Sportback for promoting the company is a far cry from her humble start.

She grew up in Sydney’s South West in a modest cottage that her late dad Ray built, and Lisa has always maintained she’s a Campbelltown girl at heart.

Jetsetting is a way of life for Lisa and Peter, a renowned author. (Image: Supplied)

Get your beauty sleep with the ultimate cooling sheets for an Aussie summer https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/homes/best-sheets-for-summer-76348/ Thu, 18 Jan 2024 22:24:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/homes/best-sheets-for-summer-76348 Sleeping pretty.

The post Get your beauty sleep with the ultimate cooling sheets for an Aussie summer appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
By now we should all know and acknowledge the importance of a good night’s sleep and how it affects our overall health and wellbeing, but come Australian summer time it can be near impossible to get a good night’s sleep thanks to our balmy summer nights.

There are certain things to consider when it comes to picking your summer time bed sheets, and picking the right choice can make the world of difference to your REM cycle. When picking your sheets, consider the following:

 • Thread count – the lower the thread count the cooler the sheets and the better for summer thanks to increased circulation.

 • Natural fabrics – because you’re going for a lower thread count make sure your sheets’ fabric is up to scratch so it is still soft and cosy to sleep on. Natural fabrics are also better for airflow and circulation and the best materials to look for are cotton, linen and bamboo.

 • Go light – look for lighter colours for your summer time sheets as dark colours absorb heat and especially if your bed is by a window it will trap this heat, making it particularly warm come bed time.

It’s not Christmas without a tree.

Each Christmas tree selection and Christmas decoration is unique, and the perfect festive reflection of its owner.

Whether it’s faux or real, decorated with a modern or traditional aesthetic, big or small, your choice in tree can say a lot about you.

So what does your tree style reveal about your personality?

Take a look below and find out.

READ NEXT: When should you put up the Christmas tree?

A ‘We went a little OTT with the decorations’ Christmas tree

This tree is struggling under the sheer the weight of the collection of eclectic ornaments gathered by you and your family over many years.

You are probably a parent, and you really love your kids, enough to let them create the beautiful disaster that will be taking over a corner in your living room for the next month and a half.

Your kids taught you that perfection is overrated, as is sleeping in on weekends and being able to use the bathroom without someone calling out your name.

You’re patient and fiercely protective of the ones you love.

A ‘Charlie Brown’ Christmas tree

Poor Charlie and his adorable little tree!

(Image: Supplied)

A tree worthy of one of the best Christmas movies of all time, A Charlie Brown Christmas.

You, like Charlie, see beauty where others see none. You are a glass half full kind of person with a big heart.

Your heart is so big that you have a ridiculous amount of rescue dogs, you just can’t say no.

You cry easily and are no longer able to watch The Notebook because last time you did it took you over a week to stop crying.

Don’t let people push you around this Christmas, keep a bottle of wine at hand.

A pure white Christmas tree

This white Christmas tree sticks with the theme of this pristine room.

(Image: Instagram)

A white Christmas tree is all the rage for those aesthetic-lovers.

Those who gravitate towards an all-white Christmas tree tend to be fond of dramatics and prone to making bold statements.

You are confident, ultra-modern and post regularly on social media.

Be warned, that while it may not phase you, people will not always ‘get’ your white tree style and could even deem it ‘cheap’ or ‘tacky’.

Would Beyoncé care about such petty opinions? Of course not!

Then again, there is very little chance Beyoncé would ever own a white Christmas tree.

A table top Christmas tree

Just because you live in a small house or unit, doesn’t mean you should have to go without a tree this Christmas.

(Image: Instagram)

Either you don’t have much space OR your kids have left home.

Empty nesters have spent over 18 years making Christmas entirely about their children – and this year all the kids buggered off to their partner’s families for the big day, leaving you wondering what to do with yourself.

You wear a lot of white linen, shop at farmers markets every weekend and are a prolific baker.

It’s time you stopped thinking about other people and gave yourself the treat you so deserve.

Call a friend over for some wine and cheese, read a book, go for a swim or take a bubble bath.

A ‘way too big’ Christmas tree

One word: overcompensating.

You’re hiding something… but what?

Nobody knows the real you because you’re hiding behind glitz, glamour and very big trees.

The perfectly decorated Christmas tree

You have a perfect house and are a model partner, parent, child and friend.

You remember every birthday and anniversary without the help of Facebook and you manage to juggle home and career life with complete ease.

The thought of winging it fills you with dread and you’ve been planning the perfect Christmas since August.

Remember the old adage, “anything that can go wrong will go wrong,” exists for a reason.

Learn to roll with the punches over the holiday season, it makes life a whole lot more fun.

The ‘anything for the aesthetic’ Christmas tree

Customise your Christmas tree to fit with your aesthetic.

(Image: Instagram)

You’re nothing short of a perfectionist.

Your calendars are colour-coded, your life is written in lists, and your groceries are organised in dedicated compartments.

Of course your tree has to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your living room.

But not everything can be perfect on Christmas.

Try not to have harsh expectations this year and you may be able top avoid extra stress and disappointment.

From the adorable to the utterly problematic: Love Actually’s storylines ranked https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/homes/love-actually-storylines-70394/ Fri, 01 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/christmas/christmas-entertaining/love-actually-storylines-70394 It won't stop us watching every year though.

The post From the adorable to the utterly problematic: Love Actually’s storylines ranked appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
With mere weeks until the big day, Christmas celebrations are in full swing around the world.

Whether you’re spending hours agonising over where each decoration should hang on the tree, or splurging on gifts to make this year better than the last, there are some traditions that never go out of style. None more so than re-watching Love Actually for the 100th time.

The festive flick written and directed by rom-com king Richard Curtis follows nine different storylines as they navigate love over the Christmas season and nearly 20 years on from its release, it’s still an absolute favourite.

In Australia, you can watch the Christmas classic on a number of streaming services, including BINGE, Prime Video, Stan, Paramount Plus and Netflix. If you’re not already signed up to BINGE, you can join with a free 7-day trial here.

However with each passing year, we can’t help but notice that the stories we once found so gooey and romantic are a little more concerning than we realised.

It certainly won’t deter us from watching, but we’ve decided to rank the nine stories in this 2003 masterpiece from least to most problematic. Keep scrolling to see if you agree. Warning, there will be spoilers for the few people yet to watch…

9. Daniel, Sam and Joanna

They say the purest form of unconditional love is between parents and their children and this storyline only emphasises it.

Not long after the death of his wife, Daniel (Liam Neeson) learns that his 11-year-old stepson Sam (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) is head over heels for Joanna, an American girl at his school who coincidentally shares the same name as his late mum.

The duo grow closer with Daniel teaching Sam about the art of romance that culminates in a dash through airport security (seeing as this was set two years after 9/11 it’s a tad unbelievable but we digress).

Not only does their stepfather-stepson bond strengthen, but they both find romantic love too – Daniel meets fellow school mum Carol (Claudia Schiffer) .

Daniel and Sam’s story is the purest by far.

(Universal Pictures)

8. John and Judy

Probably not the most comfortable scenes to watch with your parents and grandparents, but they do show that love can be found in the most unlikely of places.

The couple (played by Martin Freeman and Joanna Page) meet on a film set as stand-ins doing the sex scenes and whilst they’re comfortable simulating sex and with nudity, their conversation is nothing but wholesome.

“It’s lovely to find someone I can actually chat to,” a shy, naked John admits with a naked Judy on top of him.

Their first kiss perfectly encapsulates those awkward and pure moments at the beginning of a relationship and a month later they get engaged. It may be a bit fast but what the hell, it’s Christmas.

“All I want for Christmas, is you.”

(Universal Pictures)

7. Billy Mack and Joe

I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes…These two are yet another example of platonic love despite a few eyebrow-raising comments made at Joe’s expense.

Former heroin addict and ageing rocker Billy (Bill Nighy) is in the process of promoting his bid for the Christmas no. one hit Christmas Is All Around Me supported by his long-suffering manager Joe (Gregor Fisher). In the end, he skips attending an A-list party on Christmas Eve with Elton John to be with Joe proclaiming him to be the love of his life.

Special shoutout to the line “Kids, don’t buy drugs. Become a pop star and they give you them for free.”

6. Colin and his American girls

Self-proclaimed god of sex Colin (Kris Marshall) decides English girls are too “stuck up” for his liking and decides he’ll find true love if he flies to America since the girls there are “cooler” and “up for a laugh”.

At the first Wisconsin bar he walks into, he’s immediately met by three stunning American women (one of whom is played by a pre Mad Men January Jones) who fall for his English accent and invite him to come back home with him.

All in all it’s pretty harmless, but we fear it’s given too many average English men an ego boost they don’t deserve.

Just your average American bar.

(Universal Pictures)

5. Sarah and Karl

Sweet Sarah (played by Laura Linney) is crushing hard on her handsome co-worker Karl. At the Christmas party, the two hook up and all is going so well until she interrupted once again by her mentally ill brother Michael calling and their tryst is put on hold.

Some blame Sarah for picking up the phone, others blame Karl for not being patient enough but in our books it’s just one of those unfortunate situations that life throws.

She may not have had her happily ever after with Karl but we tear up every time she spends Christmas at Michael’s care facility and they hug. All in all, not the best situation but not the absolute worst.

At least she managed to have a dance.

(Universal Pictures)

4. Jamie and Aurélia

Ok, now we’re getting down to the nitty gritty and this could be an unpopular opinion.

After finding out his girlfriend has been cheating on him with his brother, Jamie (Colin Firth) dashes off to spend the lead up to Christmas in France where he meets Portuguese housekeeper Aurélia (Lúcia Moniz). Sounds cute, but the two cannot speak the other’s language. That doesn’t deter Jamie though, who learns Portuguese and flies out to propose (grammatically incorrectly) on Christmas Eve who accepts in broken English.

It’s your classic rom com complication and whilst it’s romantic in theory, how on earth can you expect these two to last when they barely have anything in common? We say Aurélia should’ve taken her sister’s advice and married Prince William instead – at least she could live in a palace.

Cute in theory, not that romantic when you think about it.

(Universal Pictures)

3. David and Natalie

As the new handsome and single Prime Minister, David (Hugh Grant) has a lot on his plate what with running the country. But he quickly develops a crush on Natalie (Martine McCutcheon), a new junior member of the Downing Street staff who delivers him his tea and biscuits.

The flirtation is fine and cute until there’s a visit from the US President (Billy Bob Thornton) who makes a pass at Natalie that David walks in on. That prompts David to ask his staff to “redistribute her” even though Natalie was clearly uncomfortable by what went down when she was alone with the President. It takes a Christmas card from Natalie apologising (yes, she apologises) for what happened for David to track her down and proclaim his love. After the alleged behaviour Australia’s politicians have engaged in with younger staffers, the storyline shows another side in a modern context.

On top of that, there are all those comments about the beautiful Natalie being chubby that would never fly today.

2. Mark, Juliet and Peter

This is the storyline with the most memorable scene ever, but our opinion of it has gone from tragically romantic to downright stalky.

Though he serves as best man at his friend Peter’s (Chiwitel Ejiofor) wedding, Mark (Andrew Lincoln) appears to dislike his friend’s new bride Juliet (Keira Knightley). However, after its revealed Mark’s wedding video consisted entirely of footage of Juliet, she learns he’s actually been in love with her.

Cut to the infamous boombox and cue cards scene where Mark professes his love to Juliet, who kisses him briefly before returning to her unassuming husband.

Between the creepy filming dubbed “a self-preservation thing”, Mark rocking up to the house and Juliet kissing her husband’s best friend, it hasn’t aged too well. But it’s not the worst one.

Not. Appropriate.

(Universal Pictures)

1. Harry, Karen and Mia

Alan Rickman, why must you do this every year? In case you need a recap, Harry (Alan Rickman) is married to Karen (Emma Thompson) with whom he shares two children but is clearly attracted to his secretary Mia, who herself is an unabashed flirt.

The two dance at the office Christmas party under Karen’s eye and Harry buys an expensive necklace for Mia, that Karen finds. The scene where Karen opens that Joni Mitchell CD and discovers who the necklace is really for will go down in history as one of the most heartbreaking in cinema.

Whilst Karen confronts her cheating husband (“You’ve also made a fool out of me, you’ve made the life I lead foolish too,”), the two appear to stay together at the end but of course the trust is gone.

It’s not like this has ever been the big romantic story or one that’s aged badly, but we’re still mad about it.

20 years later and we’re still upset.

(Universal Pictures)

Christmas is almost here and any day now we are due to be digging into our Christmas lunches, eating our body weight in prawns and enjoying the silly season.

As is tradition the only way to kick off these festivities is by cracking into a Christmas cracker and donning the iconic paper crowns while we enjoy the dad jokes.

However, the traditional crackers can seem lack-lustre and the waste created by unused trinkets and toys can certainly dampen the Christmas spirit.

The good news is it that brands have begun to create their own bonbons full of high-quality products that can add a sense of luxury and flourish to your Christmas table set-up.

From boozy bonbons to beauty-packed crackers or elevated classics there are endless options to try out so the gifts can keep flowing all Christmas Day.

We have rounded up our favourite luxury crackers for you to peruse and add to your table this Christmas.
