It’s no secret shopping has evolved over the years. While we grew up watching infomercials on 6-in-1 products (Thin Lizzy, we’re looking at you) to cult home buys, we now look to social media platforms to influence our shopping choices.

TikTok in particular has cemented itself as the shopping hub, especially among Gen Z, with everything from viral hair tools to niche beauty products becoming trends and therefore, absolute must-haves. Most even make it to Amazon’s best-sellers, with thousands of reviews behind them.

I for one am not immune to the allure of TikTok and the trends that come with it. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I love to shop. But I especially love shopping when the recommendation comes from someone who shares the same pain points.

From skincare products that hydrate my skin to haircare items that have revived my strands like no other, I’ve tried several products over the years that I absolutely have no regrets about buying, and I’m highlighting them below.

And the best part? They’re all available on Amazon, so you can add everything in one cart for seamless shopping. You’re welcome.

Become an Amazon Prime member and add all your items to cart to save big during Prime Day. The sale runs from July 16 to 21, so sign up now here to shop during the 30-day trial period, or read our explainer here.

01

Mielle Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil

$18.79 at Amazon

Why we love it: Helps hair grow in no time

One of the very first products TikTok influenced me to buy was this hair oil. And sure enough, years later, it’s still one of the most important steps in my haircare routine. My hair has grown inches from simply using a few drops and massaging into my scalp once a week.

It also has me waking up to silky smooth locks the next day (after a wash), and with peace of mind that I’m doing what I can to help my hair grow.

Our rating: 9/10

Key features:

 • Infused with Biotin
 • Features more than 30 essential oils and extracts
 • Rosemary scent
k18-leave-in-hair-mask

02

K18 Hair Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask

$59.99 (usually $99.50) at Amazon

Why we love it: Helps repair colour-damaged hair

Another haircare product I swear by is the K18 leave-in hair mask – recommended to me by my hairdresser after she took one look at my dyed and damaged locks and knew we had to act.

The mask activates within minutes after applying to damp hair and soaks up immediately for a lightweight feel. My hair already feels much healthier after using it for a few months.

Our rating: 8/10

Key features:

 • Works on the molecular level to reverse hair damage in just 4 minutes
 • Helps restore strength, softness, smoothness and bounce to hair
cosrx-snail-mucin

03

COSRX Snail Mucin

$12.99 (usually $16.99) at Amazon

Why we love it: Leaves skin feeling soft and smooth

When I first heard of Snail Mucin as skincare, I was sceptical. However, after seeing all the reviews and hearing people rave about it, I knew I had to give it a chance. And I’m so glad I did.

It’s ultra-hydrating (perfect for winter!) and absorbs right into the skin so you can go ahead with the next step in your skincare routine without feeling too heavy.

Our rating: 7/10

Key features:

 • Helps damaged skin
 • Helps improve skin elasticity
 • Maintains hydration level all day long
amazon-must-haves-sunscreen

04

La Roche-Posay Sunscreen Lotion

$22.76 (usually $37.95) at Amazon

Why we love it: The perfect lightweight sunscreen

As someone who is a little guilty of skipping sunscreen in my daily routine, I knew I had to find the right one to make it stick. Sure enough, this lightweight formula makes it easy to remember and apply every single day.

Unlike other sunscreens, it doesn’t leave your skin looking shiny afterwards or leave behind a white cast. La Roche-Posay, I dare say, is worth the hype.

Our rating: 7/10

Key features:

 • SPF 50+
 • Ultra-light invisible and non-shiny finish
 • Suitable for sensitive skin
amazon-must-haves-mascara

05

Maybelline New York Mascara

from $11.95 (usually $25.99) at Amazon

Why we love it: Leaves lashes fluffy and full of volume

Finding a mascara that gives you volume without the clumps is hard. But, after going through an entire tube of this one I can honestly say I’ve never had an issue. It adds instant volume to my lashes and leaves them looking fluffy all day long.

Plus, it’s easy to build and layer up without them looking crazy afterwards. Perfect if you’re someone who gets a little carried away (like me).

Our rating: 8/10

Key features:

 • Waterproof
 • Infused with bamboo extract and fibres
 • Flake-free

06

Caudalie Beauty Elixir Face Mist

from $70 at Amazon

Why we love it: Tightens pores and sets makeup

A recent addition to my beauty routine, I can hardly remember a time before this magical toning mist ever existed.

A true all-in-one product, it tightens pores, sets makeup, and provides an instant boost of radiance – basically everything you need and more in one bottle.

Our rating: 8/10

Key features:

 • Brightens and visibly smooths skin
 • Minimises pores and sets makeup

A favourite among celebrities, influencers and stylists, the Dyson Airwrap has reached cult status for a reason.

Loved for its ability to deliver bouncy, beautiful curls every time, and for being incredibly versatile with a range of attachments, the hair tool is constantly sought out by the masses.

But it does come with a hefty price tag. Retailing at an eyewatering $849, not everyone can afford the splurge for a beauty tool, which is why we look to sales.

Where to shop the Dyson Airwrap on sale in 2024

For those who have been waiting for the coveted Dyson Airwrap to finally go on sale so they can save big, we’ve scoured the internet to find the best deals happening right now.

Other retailers to keep an eye out for during a sale:

Does Dyson ever go on sale?

Dyson typically participates in seasonal and year-round sales, including participating in the Black Friday event, Boxing Day, and more.

Year-round discounts tend to occur during special occasions, including Mother’s Day, Christmas, and Afterpay Day, among others.

Is the Dyson Airwrap worth investing in?

While the Airwrap’s price tag is steep, Dyson backs it with several features to make it worthwhile.

For starters, the Coanda air technology makes it so your hair gets minimal damage thanks to its aerodynamics, and uses less heat than any other hair tool.

The Airwrap also offers multiple styling possibilities including a hair dryer function, a smoothing brush for straight styles, a round brush for volume and curling barrels for all your needs.

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson reveals her ‘secret recipe’ for wrinkle-free skin at 64 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/nigella-lawson-antiaging-skincare/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 00:09:43 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519401 No, it's not botox!

The post Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson reveals her ‘secret recipe’ for wrinkle-free skin at 64 appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
At 64, Nigella Lawson‘s glowing, wrinkle-free skin has everyone asking for her secret. Literally.

After relentless begging on social media, the star chef and cookbook author has finally served up the one recipe her fans have been dying for: the fountain of youth.

Nigella Lawson, wrinkle-free, cooking in the kitchen
Nigella Lawson is the domestic goddess that’s helping us age and eat well. (Image: Getty)

And it’s surprisingly simple and even cost-effective. Nigella swears by a nightly regimen that involves just four ingredients: a muslin cloth, a concentrated exfoliating cleanser, a facial oil and a bit of climate control.

The celebrity chef tweeted: “My immutable night time regime: @VH_Beauty Prickly Pear Seed Oil, massaged in after washing my face with a muslin and TempleSpa’s In the Beginning cleanser.

“And no central heating in the bedroom!”

Easy peasy, right? Click your way to wrinkle-free skin a la Nigella’s 3-step night-time routine below.

NIGELLA LAWSON’S 3-STEP SKINCARE ROUTINE

01

CLEANSE WITH CARE

Nigella’s skincare ritual begins with cleansing her face every night using a muslin cloth and an indulgent balm cleanser. Not only does the cleanser remove makeup and impurities, but it also provides a gentle exfoliation thanks to the muslin cloth.

Our pick? The cult-favourite Eve Lom cleanser, $158.99, loved by celebrities like Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Eva Mendez to name a few. Its rich texture and nourishing ingredients leave skin feeling soft and rejuvenated.

02

NOURISH WITH PRICKLY PEAR SEED OIL

After cleansing, Nigella massages her face with prickly pear seed oil. The chef has been known to call this her “face-saving magic”.

This luxurious oil is packed with vitamins E and K, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that hydrate and repair the skin. It’s known for its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin elasticity, making it a perfect addition to an anti-aging routine.

“Put it on at night and you’ll wake up looking as if you’ve been to a spa by the sea, slept 10 hours a night and been off Twitter for a month,” Nigella Lawson wrote in the Sunday Times.

03

KEEP IT COLD

The final step in Nigella’s skincare regimen is a bit unconventional but highly effective: she avoids using central heating in her bedroom.

Central heating can dry out the air, which in turn dries out your skin. By keeping her bedroom cool and humidity balanced, Nigella ensures her skin retains its natural moisture, preventing dryness and promoting a more youthful appearance.

Many celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz swear by adding a humidifier to their beauty routines. Running a humidifier pulls moisture back into the air to improve dry, itchy skin and help it retain essential hydration. We love this one from Philips, $139 for a sleek, effective option.

BEAUTY TIPS FOR AGING

Despite her enviable complexion, even Nigella has admitted that the “beauty problem” of getting older has been tough for her. “I’m trying to go with it,” she opened up in an interview with Oprah.

“I think what ages a face most is disappointment and a lack of enjoyment. So I try to do what I love.”

Now that’s some beauty advice we can get behind!

I’ve been using a silk pillowcase for years – and it’s completely changed my frizzy hair https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/silk-pillowcase-for-hair/ Thu, 20 Jun 2024 05:41:20 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=516535 My secret to waking up with smooth and shiny locks every day.

The post I’ve been using a silk pillowcase for years – and it’s completely changed my frizzy hair appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Silk pillowcases are one of those items that seem like a luxury, but in reality, are completely necessary if your hair tends to run on the frizzy side and your skin on the oily.

As someone with both, I made the switch from regular cotton to smooth silk a few years ago, and I’ve never looked back. But after a recent bedroom refresh (my old pillowcases no longer matched my aesthetic) I found myself on the hunt for a new one.

This is where I came across The Silk Store – a brand loved for its high-quality silk that promises to reduce frizz and hair breakage and is great for people with sensitive or oily skin.

Basically, everything I needed and more from a silk pillowcase. Below, my full and honest review.

The Silk Store’s Pure Silk Pillowcase review verdict

 • Our rating: 9 out of 10
 • Why we rated it a 9/10: it’s soft, it’s smooth and so is my hair!

Pros

 • Incredibly soft and gentle on your skin and hair
 • Perfect for sensitive or oily skin
 • Breathable and temperature-regulating

Cons

 • Must be hand-washed

silk-pillowcase-for-hair

What’s so special about the Pure Silk Pillowcase?

It does exactly what it promises to do, providing a smooth base to rest on without any frizz or friction to your hair afterwards. Other key features that stood out were:

 • Helps prevent wrinkles and fine lines
 • Standard size (51*66cm) fits most standard-sized pillows
 • Available in a range of colours

The Pure Silk Pillowcase materials

This pillowcase is made from 100 per cent pure mulberry silk, which is less likely to cause irritation or allergies compared to cotton or polyester.

Silk also keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter and reduces the risk of wrinkles, fine lines, frizz, and breakage, while preventing creases and marks on the skin.

Expert’s opinion

“Silk has a smooth texture that reduces friction and helps prevent breakage and frizz,” hair care specialist Emily Rodriguez told The Silk Store.

“By embracing the gentle touch of silk, you’ll wake up to hair that’s smoother than ever,” she added.

How to care for the Pure Silk Pillowcase

If, like me, your main concern with a silk pillowcase is how to wash it, then fear not because the process is quite simple.

For starters, you want to avoid putting your silk in the laundry machine as silk is a natural fibre that can only be washed by hand. So, when washed in the laundry machine, it will lose its shine.

Instead, you want to hand-wash your silk pillowcase – without twisting – and gently drain the water using a towel. Afterwards, let it dry in the shade.

silk-pillowcase-for-hair

Results from our test

Having slept on this pillowcase for a few weeks, I can honestly say I love it. In fact, the only problem I have is that I can no longer sleep on any other pillowcase without feeling weird.

Seriously, once you go silk you can never go back. My hair is unbelievably smooth every morning and my skin doesn’t feel irritated no matter how often I toss and turn in my sleep.

Overall, is Silk Store’s Pure Silk Pillowcase worth it?

I’d say the Pure Silk Pillowcase from The Silk Store is totally worth it. It provides less friction compared to other pillowcases I’ve tried and is incredibly soft to sleep on.

It comes in multiple colours too which is great for matching your current bedsheets or covers.

The post Rejuvenate and hydrate: These primers transform mature skin for a confidence-boosting finish under makeup appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
There is an onslaught of products recommended to perfect our makeup routines, and while a lot of it can be white noise, the humble primer is an investment that can really change the game.

That’s because it offers many benefits geared towards protecting your skin and getting the most out of your foundation.

Of course, some beauty experts claim the product isn’t necessary when applying moisturiser before your makeup, but in truth, that sentiment is reserved for young skin filled with collagen.

As the skin ages and transforms, a good primer can blur fine lines and create an even base that is great for hydrating your skin and keeping your foundation fresh.

The beauty world has seen an overhaul of what makeup can be over the past ten years.

Companies have enriched their foundations, concealers, and mascaras with vitamins, treatments, and antioxidants so your skin can achieve your desired results while you go about your day.

This modern handling of products is most present in primers, which are more like skincare solutions than makeup because they’re trying to get the best results from your skin, not your BB Cream.

After all, a healthy base equals a flawless cover girl finish.

We have found the best primers on the market for mature skin so you can start benefitting from their powers.

How do I choose the best primer for my skin?

Finding the right primer for you is all about knowing your skin type.

If you have dry skin you’ll want a moisturising and hydrating primer with a creamy consistency and ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and niacinamide which keep your skin moisturised, prevent tightness and boost elasticity.

In contrast, if your skin leans more to the oily side, you’ll be after a more mattifying primer with a gel-like or silicone consistency.

Embrace and enhance your mature skin with these hard-working foundations https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/best-foundation-mature-skin-71187/ Wed, 05 Jun 2024 23:49:12 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/makeup/best-foundation-mature-skin-71187 It's the most important part of your makeup routine.

The post Embrace and enhance your mature skin with these hard-working foundations appeared first on Now To Love.

Foundation is typically the base of your makeup routine, and it’s also the most important step.

It’s integral that the product is applied evenly, matches your skin tone, and blends into your face instead of sitting on top.

Unfortunately, it can be harder to successfully follow those three rules as skin matures because the foundation sometimes seeps into fine lines.

Luckily, makeup is advanced these days, and brands work closely with their team to create formulas that support the needs of mature skin.

Of course, to do so, you need to invest in a great foundation, so we’ve found some of the best on the market below.

2024’s top three foundations for mature skin in Australia

 1. Skin Silk Serum Foundation, $24, Revolution Beauty
 2. Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Foundation, $70, Charlotte Tilbury
 3. Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stic, $49, Hourglass

The best foundations for mature skin in 2024

02

Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Foundation

How to apply foundation on mature skin

Here are some tips to make sure you’re getting the most out of your foundation by prepping your base:

 • The first call to action is, of course, skincare prep, which is achievable through applying a hydrating moisturiser that isn’t too thick, and if you feel brave, face oil will give you an extra glow.
 • Next, your favourite primer is your best friend because it will help blur fine lines and encourage a smooth, even surface.
 • Finally, you can begin applying your foundation, but it’s best to start with thin coverage and build up as you get a feel for how it’s sitting on your face.

Your product of choice should be hydrating and brightening for a high-quality finish, and you can achieve this with the foundations we have found above.

When it comes to the world of beauty there are a number of products that have achieved cult status.

Whether it be Yves Saint Laurent’s Touch Éclat concealer or NARS’ blush in the colour way ‘Orgasm’ these coveted items have garnered a reputable name for themselves, and for good reason.

Their high standing, more often than not, comes with an equally high price tag.

While we’re all for the occasional (or weekly) splurge, filling our entire beauty bags with these luxury items can lead to a hefty bill that’s hard to justify.

Thankfully, in an industry overflowing with products, there are a number of very impressive dupes that not only match cult favourites but shine in their own right.

We’re rounding up some of the best, below.

The best cult beauty dupes in Australia

01

XtendLash Mascara

$28 at MCoBeauty

Not only has MCoBeauty’s XTendLash Mascara been dubbed the perfect dupe for Kevyn Aucoin’s Tubular Mascara, but it’s also a fave of celebs like Jules Sebastian and Celeste Barber.

02

Revolution Pro Cream Face Wand

03

NYX Lip Lingerie

Shades: 14

Also available at:

 • $17 (usually $21) at ASOS

04

NYX Professional Makeup Make Up Setting Spray

$17.99 at Adore Beauty

NYX’s setting spray went viral for its stay-power thanks to a review by a woman who claims the spray lasted through a car accident and hospital stay. If that doesn’t rival the likes of Urban Decay Setting Spray, we don’t know what will.

Also available at:

05

Revolution Bright Light Face Glow

$14 at Revolution Beauty

This illuminating skin tint from Revolution Beauty is nearly identical to Charlotte Tilbury’s glowy Flawless Filter foundation but for a fraction of the price.

Designer Brands Make ‘Em Blush Pressed Mineral Blush

Also available at:

08

My hairdresser told me to wash my hair twice a week. This dry shampoo got me through it https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/best-dry-shampoo-for-dark-oily-hair/ Tue, 21 May 2024 23:57:41 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=512398 Crisis averted.

The post My hairdresser told me to wash my hair twice a week. This dry shampoo got me through it appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
As anyone with oily hair knows, scheduling your hair wash days in accordance with your social calendar is the key to looking and feeling your absolute best. After all, we wouldn’t want to be stuck with limp, dirty-looking hair for a big occasion.

So, when my hairdresser flippantly informed me I needed to cut my regular washes to just two days a week – for the longevity of my hair colour and hair health – I damn near fell off the salon chair.

Prior to that, I was on a strict second-day wash system, and even that was a stretch. My hair only looked good on the first day, and anything that followed was a greasy-looking mess. To stretch it even further was unthinkable.

But once the panic left my system and I could think clearly, I realised my only saving grace during this period would be dry shampoo. Not just any dry shampoo, but one that would suit my dark oily hair.

And after endless scrolling and combing through reviews online, I finally found one that would work for my hair type; Batiste’s Dark Dry Shampoo. Below, my full and honest review.

Batiste’s Dark Dry Shampoo review verdict

 • Our rating: 8 of 10
 • Why we rated it an 8/10: It does what it promises; no white residue, great oil absorption and blends well.

Pros

 • Adds instant volume and body to your locks
 • Tinted for dark hair, meaning no pesky white residue
 • Blends well and gives hair an instantly clean look

Cons

 • Leaves scalp itchy if not blended well
 • It’s not the same as washing your hair, so hair is still dirty
 • The brown tint may leave behind marks

What’s so special about Batiste Dark Dry Shampoo?

The reason Batiste’s Dark Dry Shampoo stood out to me was because it was specifically targeted for dark hair, meaning no white residue – an issue I faced in the past with other formulas. Other key features that stood out were:

 • You can choose between two sizes: 200ml or 350ml
 • Has mild notes of bergamot, jasmine, vanilla bean, and musk
 • Specially formulated to instantly refresh dark tresses, gently removing oil and leaving hair looking clean
 • Suitable for anyone with shades on the dark hair spectrum – colour-treated or natural
 • Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6,287 reviewers on Amazon

How to use dry shampoo

 • Step 1: Shake the can vigorously and spray onto the roots, keeping the nozzle 30cm from your hair
 • Step 2: Blend into your hair by massaging through with your fingertips
 • Step 3: Brush your hair and style as usual

Results from our test

While nothing can beat the feeling of freshly washed and styled hair, the Batiste Dark Dry Shampoo comes fairly close.

I no longer have to worry about what state my hair will be in two days after a wash, as with a few sprays to my roots my hair is shining all over again.

I also didn’t think it was possible to avoid the white residue that comes with standard dry shampoos, but with this, it blended seamlessly with my dark hair so I didn’t need to worry about it being noticeable.

The scent was much nicer too, and I loved the volume and grip it offered, making it ever so easy to style my hair the way I liked.

Overall, is Batiste Dark Dry Shampoo worth it?

Dry shampoo is always worth having on hand – whether you have oily hair or not. It’s good for a quick last-minute spritz if your hair is lacking lustre throughout the day, adding instant life to your tresses.

And for those of us with oily hair, I’d go as far as to call it an essential. I even keep a bottle in my desk drawer at work for those days when I’ve overestimated how far my hair could go on its own.

Where to buy Batiste Dark Dry Shampoo

 • Amazon, $13.49 (usually $17.10)

Why Amazon? It offers next-day delivery, the best prices, and the option to Subscribe & Save so you can get your dry shampoo auto-delivered at a frequency of your choice.

Anyone with complicated hair – whether that be coloured, damaged, or just temperamental – knows to never, ever use the hotel shampoos and conditioners.

Why, you ask? Because once you’ve found the perfect products that work exactly for your hair type and needs, you can never go back to using the generic product-fits-all type.

This is why we tend to bring travel-sized versions (or sometimes even full-sized) of our favourite products to keep our hair tame whilst on the go.

And while we’d much rather save space in our suitcases and carry-ons for much more important items, it shouldn’t come at a sacrifice of a staycation full of bad hair days.

ovolo-hotels-hair-service

But what if there was a solution to that? What if there was a hotel offering a catered hair service that would bring you products tailored to your hair needs?

That’s exactly what Ovolo Hotels across Australia are doing, having partnered with TRESemmé to launch the world’s first Hair Service Menu.

The menu allows guests to order bespoke and professional hair products directly to their room during their stay – like you would with room service.

The best part of it all? It’s completely complimentary, meaning you can have tailored shampoo, conditioner and treatment at no extra cost.

The multi-step regimes available to order include the new Lamellar Shine, Purple Toning, Keratin Smooth, Smooth Curls and Strengthen and Restore.

During my stay at Ovolo Woolloomooloo in Sydney, I received the Lamellar Shine range which included two 500ml sized shampoo and conditioner bottles and a 100ml sized leave-in serum cream.

Promising to give me hair “so glossy, smooth and shiny that people will be able to see their reflection it” I was beyond excited to try it. And I was not disappointed.

The shampoo and conditioner felt great against my scalp – not harsh or difficult to deal with like standard hotel shampoos – and the serum cream was the perfect final touch, leaving my tresses feeling hydrated and smooth.

Overall, the entire range was a fantastic feature of my stay, and I didn’t need to bring any of my usual products! Meaning I had more room for other essentials in my carry-on.

This viral cleansing balm has me ditching makeup wipes for good https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/alpha-h-melting-moment-cleansing-balm-review/ Thu, 25 Apr 2024 23:08:53 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=511085 Bye bye complicated removers.

The post This viral cleansing balm has me ditching makeup wipes for good appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
As someone who tends to wear makeup every day, I’ve cycled through my fair share of makeup removers.

Wipes, cleansing oils, cotton pads and micellar water; no matter what I use, I end up reaching for a second, third, and even fourth attempt to get my face crystal clear of any makeup residue.

So when I heard cleansing balms were making the rounds as the best makeup remover on TikTok, I figured it was worth the shot. After all, what did I have to lose?

One of the viral cleansing balms that comes highly recommended is Alpha-H’s Melting Moment Cleansing Balm, with rave reviews on the brand’s website and thousands of TikTok videos about it.

But what makes Alpha-H’s Melting Moment Cleansing Balm different from any other makeup cleanser on the market? And is it really worth the purchase?

alpha-h-cleansing-balm-review

How do you use the Alpha-H Cleansing Balm?

Before determining whether or not the cleansing balm is worthy or not, it’s important to understand how to use it.

If you’ve dabbled with a cleansing balm before, then it’s pretty simple: you scoop a small amount onto dry skin and gently massage in circular motions for about a minute or so.

Then you rinse off using warm water or a warm damp cotton cloth, making sure you feel your face is thoroughly cleansed afterwards. If not, feel free to repeat.

For me, I found once was more than enough and was rather impressed by how easily it took off all my makeup – and without any residue to be found on my towel afterwards!

From there I go about my skincare routine as normal; double cleansing with my regular cleanser before going in with my serums and moisturiser on my sparkling, clean skin.

Is a cleansing balm worth it?

I found a cleansing balm to be much more efficient than any other method I’ve tried. It’s easier, simpler and much better for the environment

Not only does it cut out the need for single-use plastics, but all Alpha-H’s tubes, bottles and cardboard packaging are 100 per cent recyclable. They even contain 30 – 35 per cent Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) material.

And that’s before we consider all the benefits for the skin. The Melting Moment Cleansing Balm removed all makeup off my skin without feeling stripped or tight afterwards.

According to the brand, the balm-to-cleanser also does this without disrupting the skin’s delicate pH and is said to help with dryness and dehydration, oiliness and shine, makeup removal and SPF removal.

What more could you want? And while I’ve only just started using the cleansing balm, the results have been fairly instantaneous.

alpha-h-cleansing-balm-review

The final verdict

From just a week of using Alpha-H’s Melting Moment Cleansing Balm, I can already tell this is something I’ll be sticking with. Makeup wipes and cleansing oils are over – for me at least.

What I love most about it is the texture: it’s buttery soft and glides over my skin without feeling too harsh or leaving a mess afterwards.

It’s also naturally scented from Tangerine, Yuzu and Vanilla – meaning the fragrance isn’t too harsh or overpowering. Just enough for a sweet touch.

And, travelling with my new cleansing balm is easier with the option of buying an 18g size instead of the regular 90g. Prices start from $19.95 depending on the size.

As they say, your hair is the crown you never take off. So you want to make sure you take good care of it.

There are a variety of different products and tools we use on our hair everyday, but arguably the most-used item in our cupboard is our hairbrush.

You might not think twice about the type of hairbrush you use, but the type of bristles really do make a difference.

Enter the boar bristle brush: designed to minimise breakage, seal split ends and reduce frizz.

Boar bristle brushes create tension and catch every hair, and are gentle on both fine and coarse hair. They are great for gently detangling strands without pulling and use the natural oils from your scalp to create a slick look.

Are boar bristle brushes good for your hair?

A great benefit of boar bristle brushes is that they naturally condition your hair.

As mentioned earlier, the material helps to distribute your scalp oils throughout the rest of your hair.

What hair type should use a boar bristle brush?

Boar bristle brushes are ideal for those who have thick, coarse hair due to their detangling, smoothing and shining benefits.

However, in saying that, they can also help to add volume to fine and normal hair types.

What makes a shampoo ‘natural’?

A shampoo is considered ‘natural’ when it’s formulated primarily with ingredients sourced from nature, rather than synthetic chemicals or additives. These ingredients include botanical extracts, essential oils, minerals, and vitamins that provide nourishment and care to the hair and scalp. Natural shampoos often steer clear of sulfates, parabens, silicones, and artificial fragrances and colours.

Martha Kalifatidis has one very simple postpartum skincare hack https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/best-skincare-for-postpartum/ Wed, 17 Apr 2024 23:36:51 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=509436 Because who has the time for a 10-step routine?

The post Martha Kalifatidis has one very simple postpartum skincare hack appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
As Martha Kalifatidis blows out the candles at her son Lucius’ first birthday, it’s only natural she’ll reflect on those very early postpartum days.

Days where Looch, as she affectionately calls him, would sleep all day long and leave his mum with all the time in the world to continue with her beauty routine.

“I had a lot of time to blow dry my hair and do my skincare. But now that he’s entering toddler stage – I call it terror stage,” she laughs, “there’s no time for that.”

Having just turned one, Lucius is well into his toddler stage, needing “so much attention” and “constant stimulation” from everyone around him. “We’re a lot more hands-on these days,” Martha tells Now To Love.

Image: Instagram

Finding time for self-care, let alone skincare, is not a luxury the 35-year-old mum finds herself with, even with the support of her friends, family and her fiance Michael Brunelli.

“You’ve got five minutes and in those five minutes, you probably have a lot of other things that you want to do,” she says. “Maybe drink a hot coffee, have a hot piece of toast… but with skincare, you have to just slap it on and be done.”

For this reason, Martha has partnered with Olay to help find the perfect postpartum skincare routine, with enough room for her holy grails and nothing else.

“I love the sculpting cream because it’s like a 15-step skincare in one. It does for your skin what an essence, serum, moisturiser and oil would do in one step,” she shares.

But, with anything, everyone’s experience may look a little different. “Some days you might get to do a 10-step skincare routine, and some days you might not even brush your teeth and that’s okay,” she says.

Image: Instagram

However, Martha’s best tip for mums struggling with skincare is to find what they like – and more importantly, what’s good – and just stick with it.

“Gone are the days where you’re like, ‘I’ll try this, I’ll see how this goes’. You just need something reliable. You need something that’s not going to irritate your skin.”

“Also, your hormones are not the same,” she laughs. “So you might be more sensitive than you usually are… I like to use a barrier cream, a really thick one. Always a sunscreen, always a retinol and a really gentle cleanser. They were the hero products that I always used.”

With that, we’ve built a skincare routine that we think would be perfect for mums entering their postpartum stage.

We are all striving to achieve those shiny, healthy luscious locks we’ve always dreamed of.

Whether you’re a long-length, layered, ‘Rachel’ cut type of woman, or perhaps you want that effortlessly chic pixie look like Audrey Hepburn or Scarlett Johansson, having healthy hair is a beauty goal to strive for.

Particularly as we age it is only natural for hair to thin, however, there are things we can add to our daily beauty routine to nip this in the bud or try to add some desired volume back to our locks.

Hair-growth vitamins may just be the key to achieving the hair of your dreams, and help to improve your overall hair health.

Now let’s be clear, there isn’t a magic pill you can take to instantly grow your hair, however implementing vitamins into your diet can help to improve the strength, add some shine back into dull strands and even improve thickness.

If you are looking to improve your hair health this year, scroll on to find the top vitamins and supplements to consider adding to your morning routine for healthy, shiny locks.

Ensure to read the label of any supplements you are taking and consult with your doctor first.

The best skincare for women over 50, according to an expert https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/best-skin-care-products-for-over-50-australia/ Tue, 02 Apr 2024 03:30:10 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=508858 As our skin changes, so should our skincare.

The post The best skincare for women over 50, according to an expert appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
As we begin to age, it’s only natural that our skin changes along with us. Women entering their 50s and above in particular face major changes, especially during perimenopause.

While you might think menopause is the time you need to worry, it turns out it’s the period before menopause even begins that you need to reconsider your approach to skincare.

“This is when we experience those dreaded hot flashes, unwelcome breakouts and even possibly rosacea,” skincare expert April Brodie tells Now To Love. “When the time comes along marking the end of our menstrual cycle, this naturally means a rapid decline in hormones.”

“A decrease in our estrogen and progesterone means these hormones are no longer feeding into our skin, and we can see our skin become a lot more dry, thinner and less bouncy which comes hand in hand with a drop in our collagen levels,” she explains.

So, while we’ve grown used to a certain skin type or skincare needs our entire life, we’re now presented with dryer, flatter skin, meaning our routine needs to adapt too.

“Incorporating products containing exfoliating acids into your skincare routine can help rejuvenate mature skin, improve its overall appearance, and enhance the effectiveness of other anti-aging ingredients,” Brodie says.

However, when trying new products it’s essential to start slowly and patch test first, especially if you have sensitive skin or have never used exfoliating acids before.

“Over time, you can gradually increase the frequency of use to achieve optimal results while minimising the risk of irritation,” she adds.

The post The hype is real: the cult skincare range that’s just launched in Australia appeared first on Now To Love.

It’s here! The cult skincare brand No7 has now launched its ground-breaking Future Renew range in Australia. These products are unlike anything previously seen on the beauty market, with its innovative hero ingredient Pepticology™ set to revolutionise skincare.

The range includes the Future Renew Repair Serum, the Repair Eye Cream and the Repair Night Cream — they all target the visible signs of ageing, helping skin to look and feel refreshed, revitalised and, yes, visibly renewed. And you can now get it exclusively at Priceline.

Believe the hype!

The No7 skincare brand has long been a cult classic, but their latest line has even gone one step further. The Future Renew range has been 15 years in the making, and has already become a global sensation as soon as it hit the market. At the recent Future Renew launch, leading international retailers reported that one product sold every two seconds! These products are literally flying off the shelves.

So what’s all the excitement about? With 37 innovative studies backing this skincare revolution, the Future Renew range recorded age-defying results. Clinical trials on the No7 Future Renew Serum showed 97 per cent of women had clinical grade improvements in the appearance of multiple visible signs of skin damage.

World-first skincare innovation

Peptides have been on the beauty radar for a while, but No7 goes one step further with the cutting-edge, No7-owned, super-peptide blend, Pepticology™. Ground-breaking research undertaken by No7, in partnership with world-leading scientists at the University of Manchester in the UK, has resulted in the combination of two of the most powerful peptides into a super-peptide blend, Pepticology™. This new discovery helps to support the skin’s natural self-repair process and visibly repair multiple signs of skin damage.

In fact, this new wave of innovation represents the biggest cosmetic science breakthrough in No7’s history. Pepticology™ is considered so ground-breaking that it was presented at three world-leading scientific conferences across three continents in 2023, including the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Annual Conference, the British Society for Investigative Dermatology (BSID) Annual Meeting and the International Societies for Investigative Dermatology (ISID).

Don’t Regret, Just Visibly Reverse

The range’s formula is a potent mix of Pepticology™ as well as other hero active ingredients, such as Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Vitamin C and antioxidants to further combat skin damage. Future Renew has undergone rigorous testing, with 37 studies on more than 4200 people, including two clinical trials on more than 70 people. There have also been 23 user trials on more than 3800 people and the results speak for themselves.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive – with the serum showing to repair the visible signs of skin damage in just four weeks and with 75% of women reporting their skin felt less damaged after using the product. With results this compelling, it’s time to invest in your skin’s future and reverse the visible signs of ageing with Future Renew.

Take the guesswork out of anti-ageing skincare with these brands that are keeping us young https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/anti-ageing-skincare-70906/ Thu, 01 Feb 2024 23:06:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/ageing/anti-ageing-skincare-70906 ''If the skin is functioning at its peak, it has its best chance to remain healthy and youthful.''

The post Take the guesswork out of anti-ageing skincare with these brands that are keeping us young appeared first on Now To Love.

Ageing is definitely something to be embraced as a sign of a life well-lived, but just because you’re embracing your age doesn’t mean you need to look it.

There’s no denying that anti-ageing is one of the most popular buzzwords when it comes to skincare, with countless products promising miraculous results in a matter of weeks.

From plumped skin, to reduced wrinkles and a brighter complexion, the claims can sometimes sound too good to be true – so what should you be using?

The appearance of ageing is caused by five things; collagen breakdown, photo defence, inflammation, oxidation and glycation.

(Image: INSKIN COSMEDICS / Instagram)

Marie Enna-Cocciolone, skincare guru and the founder of INSKIN COSMEDICS, tells Now To Love that the appearance of ageing is caused by five things and that each of them cause the skin to change in ways we associate with ageing.

The five factors are:

 • Collagen breakdown – 75 per cent of the skin is dry weight and quick to break down naturally, let alone under hormonal pressures and ill health.

 • Photo defence – Repeated exposure to UV accounts for almost 90 per cent of premature ageing.

 • Inflammation – The skin’s first line of defence, responsible for sensitivity, redness, and irritation.

 • Oxidation – Oxidative stress disrupts the skin barrier, breakdown collagen and elastin and contributes to uneven skin tone.

 • Glycation – Excess glucose molecules in the body contribute to the hardening of skin fibres that ultimately cause skin breakdown, heavy lines, and sagging.

So how can you effectively address these signs of ageing? Marie says there are a few key ingredients to look out for.

“An active skincare range without a doubt includes three main vitamins A, B3 and C, technically referred to as Retinol, Niacinamide and Ascorbic Acid,” she explains.

“The synergy of these hero Vitamins plays a major role in fighting the five causes of aging and are best complemented with Hyaluronic Acid for Hydration, active oils for nourishment and advanced peptides for advanced skin treatments.”

Many Australian women will be familiar with those ingredients, having spotted their names on countless skincare products available in the country.

But Marie warns that not all products are made equal, revealing that very few skincare brands worldwide use these key ingredients in their active doses.

“Sadly, in Australia, a brand using a small percentage of actives can make the same claims as a brand using the optimum dose,” she adds.

With that in mind, your best bet when it comes to anti-ageing is finding products with these active ingredients in their optimal doses, while maintaining a consistent skincare routine.

As Marie tells us, “If the skin is functioning at its peak, it has its best chance to remain healthy and youthful.”

Sweatproof your makeup! https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/makeup/sweatproof-makeup-79873/ Mon, 22 Jan 2024 03:29:50 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/makeup/sweatproof-makeup-79873 Don't let the high summer humidity dampen your glam.

The post Sweatproof your makeup! appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
The sweaty months are upon us, and summer in Australia just loves to create havoc with our beauty regimens.

The humidity and an ever-present sheen of sweat tends to cause our mascara to smudge and foundation to slide right off our skin.

The good news is, there are ways to keep your makeup in place, even on the hottest of days. We’ve rounded up the best sweat-proof makeup products to pop into your beauty bag.

Get the dewy look without your makeup sweating off in 10 minutes.

Know your skin type

To ensure you’re choosing the right products, you’ll need to understand a bit about your skin type.

If you tend towards dry skin, you may not need to worry about summer oiliness as much.

You may also not benefit from more matte base products, like primer or sunscreen.

However, if you possess oily or combination skin, matte products will become a must.

Remember: as with any makeup advice, what works for some may not work for all.

Understanding your skin type can go a long way to help you weed out any recommendations that won’t work for you.

Base

Use this amazing primer paired with either a matte foundation or a dewy foundation for the perfect base.

(Credit: Supplied)

If you have oily skin, stick to matte products.

Start with a matte primer to help keep shine at bay from the most fundamental level.

Follow this up with a silicone-based foundation. Water-based foundations may be more likely to shift, whereas silicone foundations are more water-resistant – and by water, we mean sweat!

Eyes

Make sure to use an eyeshadow primer to ensure your colour stays and then top off with either a volumising mascara or a lengthening mascara.

(Credit: Supplied)

One reason your mascara is sliding down your face could be because your eyelids are too oily.

The skin in this area tends to be on the oilier side already, so in summer you need to make sure you’ve sorted out that problem before anything else.

Using an eye primer can help stop the oil from your skin running into lashes, which then minimises the chance of your mascara and eyeliner smudging.

When it comes to mascara, try a tubing product. Sure, you can opt for a waterproof mascara, but tubing mascara comes off easier when the day is done.

Final touch

Whether you are after a matte look, a dewy look or just need the makeup to stay all day, these setting sprays are the best of the best.

(Credit: sUPPLIED)

After spending time applying your makeup, the last thing you want is for all that hard work to sweat off.

That’s where a setting spray will come in handy.

A few spritzes of a hydrating spray will minimise smudging and help your makeup last longer – an essential for balmy nights.

For oilier skin types, it’s best to use a water-resistant spray to prevent the humidity from causing further havoc on your skin.

She’s been on our screens and in our ears for decades, creating a career so memorable that you don’t even need to utter her surname for everyone to know exactly which fabulous Australian you’re talking about.

Kylie Minogue is an icon not only in Australia, but in every corner of the globe. She first captured our hearts on Neighbours in 1986 as the adorable tomboy Charlene Robinson, and then went on to forge an insanely successful pop career.

Anyone who’s been on Sydney’s Oxford St on a Saturday night will know Kylie’s hits like Spinning Around and Can’t Get You Out of My Head still fire up a dance floor now, just like they did during their heyday.

This weekend Kylie turns 54, but her incredibly age-defying face continues to look absolutely gorgeous, even after all these years.

While she clearly takes care of her body through a great diet and exercise regime, Kylie has been open about the fact that she’s had a little help from her surgeon to maintain her youthful looks, admitting she’s “tried it all.”

“For all time women have wanted to, for the most part, look their best. It’s just that what we have available to us today is – what it is today. And if you want to take advantage of it, yeah. I’m preferring to be a lot more natural these days. I’ve tried Botox, I’ve tried it all,” she told Elle magazine in 2009.

“I’m definitely not one of those people who says, ‘You shouldn’t do this.’ Everyone individually can do what they want. I also think it doesn’t have the stigma that it had when I was growing up,” Kylie said.

As any woman over the age of 40 can attest to, Kylie said looking in the mirror was sometimes like looking at a different person.

“There are lots of times I look in the mirror and I see that gravity has taken hold. Or suddenly see my face on a phone or on Skype and it’s like a Spielberg special effect and you just scream, “Who is that?'” she joked.

As for the stigma surrounding women who go under the knife, Kylie said: “You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.”

But in 2010, the then 41-year-old told News of the World that she had ditched Botox.

“I don’t any more, I won’t go near it. I have lines. You can see the lines on my face.”

And if you perhaps thought that Kylie had taken things a little too far and was starting to look a little, well, frozen, you’re not alone.

In 2017, Kylie told The Australian that the pressure to look young had started to take a hold on her.

“I’m so used to it, which is almost a sad thing to say, but that’s just been my job for so long,” she said.

When asked if being in the public eye had impacted how she presents herself, she replied: “I wouldn’t like to feel I have to dress a certain way or look a certain way that is age-defined.”

In 2018, Sydney surgeon Dr Daniel Lanzer, who has not treated Kylie but has years of experience in the field, speculated that Kylie had some filler, and possibly some liposuction and a “mini-face lift” to maintain her age-defying looks.

“She’s 50 and she still has very tight skin and cheeks. As we get older, most people don’t have those prominent high cheekbones. So that’s either fabulous genetics, or she’s had some sort of filler to keep that fullness,” Dr Lanzer said.

“The most common procedure people her age have would be fat transfer, which involves transferring fat from the hips or bottom. People her age would do that and inject the fat along the cheeks and create that fullness.”

Dr Lanzer added that face lifts have now gone out of fashion, as women seek out surgical procedures that will leave them with a more natural look.

“There’s a really big movement away from big face lifts. Today, more people are going for some combination of volume [aka filler], with a mini lift,” he said.

“A mini-lift involves just taking a little bit of skin from the ear and putting some stitches in behind the ear, without cutting into the muscle. That pulls the face back slightly. A full, deep face lift involves lifting the cheeks and going under the muscle.

Anyone over 40 will know the neck is a major ageing bugbear, but Dr Lanzer says Kylie has most likely had some work done to fix that area.

“Liposculpture removes all the fat and sagging from under the chin and jowls. We do a little lift of the skin and that gives a very natural appearance, which is what everyone is after now.”

Whatever Kylie is doing, it’s clearly working!
