Rumours of an Australian tour have been circulating since Kylie Minogue was announced as the headline act for the (cancelled) Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay.

Now Kylie has not only addressed the rumour, she’s confirmed that an Australian tour is a go! Albeit, somewhat accidentally.

“I’m on cloud nine,” Kylie told the audience in Hyde Park. (Image: Getty)

On The Fox’s Melbourne breakfast show on Monday, the Aussie pop star was asked about touring in Australia. Host Brendan Fevola asked, “Are you gonna tour in Australia?”

Hesitating for a moment, Kylie responded, “I wanna say yes. Yes, the answer is yes! We’re just locking down details.

“Maybe I wasn’t meant to say that, but yes,” she added.

While she revealed that it is in the works, the singer did not reveal any further details about the upcoming tour.

THE YEAR OF KYLIE MINOGUE

The interview came off the back of Kylie’s knock-out headline performance at the British Summer Time festival in London’s Hyde Park.

Dubbed, “a glorious celebration of pop perfection”, Kylie delivered a mesmerising performance in a red vinyl jumpsuit to a hyped-up crowd.

Things have been going so well for Kylie lately. Earlier this year, she was named one of TIME magazine’s most influential people. And she took home a global icon award at the BRITs.

The Can’t Get You Out Of My Head singer hasn’t toured her home country since her 2019 Golden tour. But she has released two studio albums and completed a Las Vegas residency.

Kylie was honoured with her first Grammy in 20 years for ‘Best Pop Dance Recording’ award for her hit song Padam Padam. (Image: Getty)

In particular, Kylie’s recent release of her album Tension has been met with great acclaim. The album’s hit single Padam Padam earned the Australian icon her first Grammy in 20 years for ‘Best Pop Dance Recording’.

And seemingly, the star who never sleeps, Kylie also reportedly signed a huge deal with streaming giant Netflix to release a documentary about her long-standing career.

The 56-year-old will allegedly film the documentary in late 2024, and it will be an exclusive fly-on-the-wall account of her incredible life story.

There’s so much Kylie to look forward to! Head to Ticketek now and sign up for the Kylie Minogue Australian tour waitlist. Doing so will ensure you won’t miss out on securing your coveted ticket!

The comedy chaos that is Thank God You’re Here is returning in 2024 with some of the world’s funniest performers walking through the brilliant blue door.

Some of the world’s funniest performers walked through the blue door to be welcomed with the iconic line, ‘Thank God You’re Here.’ All completely unaware of the scene that awaited them behind the door, their raw reactions only made the series that much more loveable.

In mid-July, Channel Ten put an end to fans suffering and revealed another season of “unscripted goodness” was returning for more laughs and surprises.

The TV WEEK Logie nominated series, Thank God You’re Here will return Wednesday August, 14, with the new season currently underway in Melbourne, Australia.

Bringing her wits and one-liners back to the television series as host is Celia Pacquola, who commonly features on Have You Been Paying Attention alongside our 2024 TV WEEK Logies host Sam Pang.

She even took a quick break from comedic television to put on her dancing shoes in Dancing With The Stars.

So, who are the celebrities walking through the blue door to be welcomed with the iconic line ‘Thank God You’re Here’?

Unfortunately, fans will just have to be patient with the full list of comedic talent not yet being revealed by Channel Ten.

In 2023, the guest appearances included Have You Been Paying Attention host Tom Gleisner, LEGO MastersHamish Blake, actress Roz Hammond, comedian Ed Kavalee, Heidi Arena, and many more.

Richard Osman’s 2020 murder-mystery novel, The Thursday Murder Club, has become a gripping success.

Not only has it gone on to become a best-selling series – it’s also now being turned into a film for Netflix, with “the greatest British cast assembled since the [Harry Potter] movies!”

The one and only Steven Spielberg acquired the adaptation rights for The Thursday Murder Club back in September 2020 – the same time the novel was released.

It was revealed that his production company Amblin Entertainment would be transforming the beloved book into a film, and Chris Columbus, who has worked on movies like Home Alone and Harry Potter, would be directing.

Since then, fans have been waiting with bated breath to find out more details, and boy-oh-boy are they in for a treat!

Here’s everything to know about the upcoming book-to-movie adaptation.

What is the plot of The Thursday Murder Club?

The Thursday Murder Club follows a group of four unlikely friends in a retirement village who team up to investigate unsolved murders.

“But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves,” the synopsis reads.

The Thursday Murder Club is the first book in the series, and there are three sequel novels that have also been released: The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed, and The Last Devil to Die.

A fifth (unnamed) book in the franchise is also currently in the works, and is set to come out in 2025.

Who has been cast in The Thursday Murder Club movie?

Prepare yourself to read one of the best ensemble casts we’ve seen in a long time.

The cast of The Thursday Murder Club will be spearheaded by Pierce Brosnan as Ron, Dame Helen Mirren as Elizabeth, Sir Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim, and Celia Imrie as Joyce.

Also appearing in the film will be Richard E. Grant, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Tom Ellis, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Geoff Bell, Paul Freeman, Sarah Niles and Ingrid Oliver.

If this spectacular cast doesn’t get you excited about the film, we don’t know what will!

When will the movie be released?

The Thursday Murder Club is currently in production, with the cast and crew remaining tight-lipped on details about the potential release date.

We’ll be updating this article once we know more about the upcoming book-to-screen adaptation, so watch this space.

In the meantime, though, you can get your murder-mystery fix by binge-reading the first four books! Grab your copy here.

The real reason why Krissy was so “mortified” after the FWAW 2024 finale https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/farmer-wants-a-wife-2024-tom-krissy-rejected/ Wed, 17 Jul 2024 00:38:54 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=512552 'I gotta lot more to say."

The post The real reason why Krissy was so “mortified” after the FWAW 2024 finale appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
In Tom’s final episode on Farmer Wants A Wife 2024, he dropped the ultimate L-bomb and chose to leave the series in a relationship with Sarah C. But his potential suitor, Krissy was left absolutely blindsided and heartbroken.

Upon hearing that she would have to leave the farm, Krissy confessed she “did not see [that] coming” after being “confident” in their connection.

Krissy was heartbroken.
(Image: Seven)

Months after the finale has aired, Krissy alleged to Yahoo Lifestyle she had an intimate relationship with Tom during FWAW and remained so until the day he didn’t choose her.

“When I met Farmer Tom we had a connection straight away. It was obvious to me that I was his first pick and I am embarrassed to reveal we slept together on the first night at his farm,” Krissy told the publication.

Krissy further claimed the breakup scene was shot twice after Tom kept “mumbling.”

“Can you imagine having an intimate relationship with a guy for nine weeks and then being broken up with twice because he felt he needed to have a second take? I was mortified,” she said.

This isn’t the first time Krissy has shared her feelings following the FWAW finale. In a post shared to Instagram soon after, she expressed how she truly felt about the rejection.

Sarah & Krissy remains friends.
(Image: Seven)

“To say my heart was shattered into a thousand pieces, isn’t enough, because it’s in a million. ❤️‍🩹,” she began.

“If I know one thing for certain, it’s that I have always had the ability to love loud, to love whole and to love in a way that sees the best in people and it’s a simple request in return, the same as I give. 💛

“Unfortunately this time around, my rose coloured glasses were tinted a bit too much and it wasn’t meant to be.”

The 29-year-old continued to share her hopes in one day finding the person that won’t hesitate on choosing her. Thanking FWAW fans, friends and family who have showed love throughout the series.

“We are in an environment whereby we put our real life on hold and unravel ourselves for the potential of finding the one, but this time, for me, it crumbled,” she added.

Despite competing for Tom’s heart against Sarah, Krissy shared her love for her new friend.

“To Sarah, it hard to explain how close you become through an experience like this but I am grateful to have met you, shared laughs, dreams, tears, ghost stories and now ACOTAR with you. There was a respect for each other and our relationship and I will always be only a call or flight away 💕

Gogglebox Australia’s fan favourites return for another season in 2024 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/news/gogglebox-australia-2024-79903/ Wed, 17 Jul 2024 00:07:32 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/reality-tv/news/gogglebox-australia-2024-79903 Oh My Gogglebox!

The post Gogglebox Australia’s fan favourites return for another season in 2024 appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
One of Down Under’s most beloved reality television series, Gogglebox Australia is returning for it’s 20th season in 2024.

It’s return marks a 10th consecutive year of Gogglebox where regular – but much loved – households share their hilarious reactions from their living room to screens across the nation.

Returning to the new season is fan favourites, The Delpechitra Family; Lee and Keith; Anastasia and Faye; and The Daltons.

New additions to the Gogglebox family but still returning for the season are Adam and Symon; Kerry and Izzy and baby Ruby; Matty along with his two sons Malik and Lyon and uncle Jad; Tim and Leanne; Milo and Nic; Kevin and Bob; and finally, Jared and newest additions sisters Mia and Bree with their friend Lainey.

The 20th season is in fact the second season to air in 2024, after Gogglebox first aired in February 2024.

Sadly, the Silbery family hasn’t been full since 2022 after Grandma Emmie was diagnosed with dementia in late 2022. Since joining the show with Kerry and Izzy in 2016, the matriarch of the Silbery family has made families laugh.

“It’s been a tough few months watching my grandma deteriorate before our eyes,” Isabelle previously wrote in a heartfelt statement on Instagram.

“I’ve been supporting Mum, who has all the weight on her shoulders as she makes some big decisions for Emmie’s future. What’s best for her now is that she is safe and happy in permanent care just up the road, where we visit her every day.”

Since its inception, Gogglebox Australia has snagged a staggered six TV Week Logie Awards. Additionally, it has been nominated for a seventh time at the 2024 AACTA Awards, which is set to take place February 10.

It has also inspired the spin-off Celebrity Gogglebox Australia, which is an annual one episode special to raise awareness of ReachOut Australia.

Gogglebox Australia returns to TV screens on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 on 10 and 10 Play. For more on what’s happening TV, check out our comprehensive TV Guide

Australia’s Barb and Laurie Smith talk life as an Olympic volunteer https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/olympic-volunteer/ Tue, 16 Jul 2024 12:04:37 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=1252607 They've attended every Olympics since 1968!

The post Australia’s Barb and Laurie Smith talk life as an Olympic volunteer appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
It’s a safe assumption to say that Port Macquarie, NSW, couple Barb and Laurie Smith are Olympic volunteer fanatics, with the pair attending every Games for decades bar one.

“We are passionate about the Games as it’s something that can bring the world’s people together,” says Barb.

The couple’s life-long love affair with all sports began in their youth with Laurie a keen swimmer, football, soccer and rugby player. Meanwhile Barb’s passion for athletics and netball provided a common interest for the pair, who have been together for 40 years.

Barb and Laurie have volunteered in the Olympic Village at every Games, except Tokyo since 2000. (Image: Supplied)

REMEMBERING SYDNEY 2000

“I went to the Mexico City Olympics in ’68 as a spectator and I was a young and impressionable 20-year-old who was passionate about sport and seeing the world’s best athletes,” says Laurie.

They met in the early ’80s and, explains Laurie, it didn’t take much to convince his new wife to honeymoon at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.

They attended every Olympics as spectators until Sydney 2000, when they decided to volunteer in the lead-up to and during the Games. Since then Barb and Laurie have volunteered in the Olympic Village at every Games, except for Tokyo in 2021 in the aftermath of the pandemic.

LIFE AS AN OLYMPIC VOLUNTEER

While they’ve loved every Olympics, Sydney 2000 was their favourite. (Image: Supplied)

Olympic volunteers are the lifeblood of the Games and no job is a problem. “It could be as small as getting clean towels for an athlete,” explains Barb, 68.

The Olympics can also be centrestage for protests or participants making life-changing decisions. “They might say they want to defect, but that’s our worst nightmare!” she laughs.

Laurie, 76, witnessed the massacre that killed 12 competitors from Israel and Germany at Munich in 1972 and still remembers the horrors clearly. “It still emotionally affects me because I’m probably one of the few people who’s still alive in the world today who was in the stadium for that ceremony,” says the former professional swimming coach.

But most of their memories are happy ones. Over the years, Barb and Laurie have also gathered a large collection of memorabilia, much of which they’ve given away to schools and groups.

There are perks to being a volunteer – like meeting the Prince and Princess of Wales! (Image: Supplied)

And while they’ve loved every Olympics, they agree Sydney 2000 was hands-down the best they’ve attended. And despite not getting paid for volunteering, the pair say there are definitely perks, like meeting the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, in London in 2012.

“The icing on the cake was that experience,” recalls Barb. “Kate talked to me about their upcoming trip to Australia and how much she was looking forward to it.”

Nat Thaipun has been crowned the winner of MasterChef Australia for 2024 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/masterchef-australia-2024-winner/ Tue, 16 Jul 2024 11:41:38 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=1252575 She mastered the kitchen!

The post Nat Thaipun has been crowned the winner of MasterChef Australia for 2024 appeared first on Now To Love.

After an incredible 2024 season, the winner of MasterChef Australia this year has finally been decided…

Nat Thaipun has won the title after a final high-pressure and high-intensity challenge that pushed both remaining cooks to their limits.

Judges Andy Allen, Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin and Jean-Christophe Novelli were beyond impressed with the skills both Nat and runner-up Josh Perry showed, and the incredible progress they’ve shown over the course of the season.

Nat received a score of 71 points out of a possible 90, just beating Josh as he had a score of 68 out of 90.

Nat’s victory clearly meant a lot to her, as she was instantly brought to tears when it was announced she had just claimed the title as well as $250,000.

“It feels so good! It feels like a dream, but it’s not,” she said in disbelief.

Nat and Josh went head-to-head in the finale. (Image: Channel 10)

It was all love between the two finalists, with both cooks sharing heartfelt and genuine tributes to one another ahead of the big day.

“My finals buddy—congrats! No matter what happens tomorrow, your growth and hunger for knowledge make you the fiercest competitor. Let’s do this!,” Nat wrote.

Meanwhile, Josh shared, “I’d like to wish [Nat] all the best in today’s cooks as I have said all along you’ve been the one to catch in this competition and I’m really proud to be here beside you. Let’s cook our hearts out and enjoy today.”

Nat had a stellar season, and was a frontrunner to win from the very start.

The 28-year-old produced some of the best dishes the judges have seen in the competition so far, and even won the first and only immunity pin early on.

Nat constantly nodded to her heritage with her Thai-inspired cooking, and created incredible dishes packed full of flavour, creativity and technicality.

“It’s a proud moment when a judge tells me they’ve never eaten it before. That’s what I’m aiming for: to showcase Thai foods and dishes that people have never seen, because they’re so good,” she previously told TV Week.

But she wasn’t just a frontrunner in the judges eyes, but in fans’ eyes too.

The Victorian local was tipped to win the competition from the very start, with viewers taking to the popular betting site Sportsbet to share their predictions.

She remained in first place from the first episode right up until the finale.

Pezza was the runner-up on MasterChef 2024. (Image: Channel 10)

Runner-up Josh “Pezza” Perry was also beloved by fans from the very start of the season thanks to his lovable personality and simplistic approach to cooking.

His philosophy was to create simple dishes that were executed well, and he was often inspired by the women in his family, which really resonated with viewers.

Whilst he came second, the 43-year-old from Tasmania was beyond grateful for the opportunity to partake in MasterChef and soaked up every minute of the experience.

Lovebirds Farmer Andrew and Claire Saunders, who met on Farmer Wants A Wife Australia 2023, have unfortunately cancelled their wedding.

The couple met during the thirteenth season of FWAW, with Farmer Andrew confessing his love early in the season to Claire and they exited together hand-in-hand.

Claire shared this statement to Instagram. (Credit: Instagram)

In early July, the bride-to-be took to Instagram to reveal she had chosen her wedding dress. But mere days later, Claire announced the wedding was cancelled in a cryptic Instagram story.

“My dogs and I have headed north to Darwin to work for the dry season,” she began.

“Andrew and I have had to cancel our wedding to due to reasons out of our control, but we are both okay. I’m not sure what else to say other than, sometimes life is hard and we all just need a little breathing space.

“There will be no farming content from me for the foreseeable future,” she concluded.

Many fans have been left wondering if the pair are still in fact together, an anonymous co-star from the FWAW 2023 season has now addressed such speculation.

“Last I heard, they’re technically still together but taking time apart and having a break,” the co-star told Yahoo Lifestyle, before revealing the decision to cancel the wedding was “led by Andrew.”

After FWAW, Claire relocated from Tasmania to Narromine farm near Dubbo to live with Andrew. At the time, Andrew admitted to Woman’s Day everything was “falling into place nicely.”.

“We’ve got a great life here,” she added.

Andrew and Claire’s engagement was announced on March 17, 2024, just four months after celebrating their first anniversary.

“𝟷𝟽~𝟶𝟹~𝟸𝟺 🤍” the pair captioned the Instagram post.

However, the announcement post has since been deleted from Claire’s Instagram page.

There has been no shortage of inspiring female Olympians at the Games, past or present. And now, for the first time in Olympic history, the 2024 Paris Games will achieve complete gender parity in competition.

That’s right, the playing field is finally even, with an equal number of male and female athletes going for gold.

To celebrate this historic first, we’ve rounded up five of the most inspirational women to watch at the Paris Games. These fierce females dominate on and off the court, making a difference in the world around us.

Let’s meet the cultural game changers.

INSPIRING FEMALE OLYMPIANS TO WATCH AT THE OLYMPICS

01

Simone Biles – USA, Gymnastics

Simone Biles, with seven Olympic medals (four of them gold), has long been a gymnastic legend. And she’s set to return to the Olympic stage in Paris for one last hurrah. The star gymnast plans to retire after this round.

After taking a mental health break during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Simone, who has the support of Taylor Swift, has been open about the importance of emotional wellbeing.

“For so many years to go through everything that I’ve gone through, put on a front, I’m proud of myself. And I’m happy that I can be a leader for the survivors and bring courage to everybody speaking up. So I’m happy to be a voice for them,” Simone said on Today.

The gymnastic star’s courage to prioritise her health and come back stronger is such an inspiration to women and girls around the world.

02

Emma McKeon – Australia, Swimming

Emma McKeon is the most decorated Australian in Olympic history.

The New South Wales swimmer competed at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 and won big. She took home three relay medals, including gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay alongside Brittany Elmslie, Brone Campbell, and Cate Campbell. She also took home an individual bronze medal in the 200m freestyle.

At Tokyo 2020, Emma went on to win four gold medals, including the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and relay victories in the 4x100m free (including a World Record) and women’s 4x100m medley relay.

As if that weren’t enough, the swimming legend nabbed bronze medals in the 100m butterfly, 4x200m freestyle relay, and 4x100m mixed medley relay taking her medal tally in Japan to seven. That is the most by any female swimmer at a single Olympic Games and the joint-most medals across any sport with Soviet gymnast Maris Gorokhovskaya.

Now the Olympian is retiring in style at the Paris Olympic Games. She said: “Swimming will always be a part of my life and has been for my whole life so far. But this will definitely be my last Olympics, so I’m excited for that.

“Success for me in Paris would be to swim faster than I ever have before.”

03

Sky Brown – Great Britain, Skateboarding

Sky Brown made history by winning bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Games (played in 2021 because COVID) at just 13 years old. Her skateboarding career started at the age of four.

And despite suffering a harrowing training injury few months before the Tokyo Olympics that kept her sidelined – and lucky to be alive – Sky, 16, has made a miraculous comeback.

The skateboarding legend secured qualification for Paris 2024 in Budapest, despite not being as she says “100 per cent”.

“My torn MCL is still not 100 per cent healed, so I can’t go very hard [but] I don’t want to keep it safe for Paris,” the young warrior said.

“Getting back in that bowl, skating with everyone, feeling that fire again… It was the best feeling. Being in the air while are screaming is my favourite thing!”

(Image: Instagram)

04

B-girl Nicka – Lithuania, Breaking

B-girl Nicka recently turned 16. And she’s been credited with putting Lithuania on the global breaking map.

Breaking – a style of street dance – is a new sport introduced in efforts to bring the Olympics to a wider and younger audience. And boy does B-girl Nicka make it look fun!

The breaker, who believes that age is only a number, isn’t scared of facing competitors twice her age.

“In breaking, it doesn’t matter how old you are. I deserve to be here and to compete at this level with all those athletes,” she told Olympics.com in an exclusive interview.

05

The Matildas – Australia, Soccer

Yes, the Matildas are more than one inspirational female – but on the field, they compete as one. And together, Australia’s national women’s soccer team are riding a green and gold wave of support all the way to Paris.

With fierce determination, the team has steadily risen through the ranks to become one of the top contenders in women’s soccer.

Led by Captain Sam Kerr, who unfortunately is nursing an injury and left to cheer on her teammates from the sidelines, the Matildas have overcome numerous challenges on and off the field.

The team is known for fighting for equal pay and better conditions for female athletes.

Coach Tony Gustavsson said, “I know that this team will give everything for the coat of arms and will represent Australia to the best of their ability in the true Aussie way.”

MasterChef Australia is back for its 16th season in 2024, and this year the show has a new look – Andy Allen has been joined on the judging panel by MasterChef alumnus Poh Ling Yeow, celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli and food blogger Sofia Levin.

22 new contestants are vying for the chance to be named as this year’s MasterChef, and despite the series only starting earlier this week, fans already think they know who will win.

This year’s aspiring cooks will be pushed to their limits in numerous gruelling challenges, and eliminations will take place throughout the season.

Thanks to betting sites such as Sportsbet, we’ve given a glimpse into who fans predict has what it takes to make it all the way to the end…

The final two contestants have finally been revealed for the 2024 season of MasterChef Australia! Nat Thaiipun and Josh Perry will be vying for the crown in the finale.

Since the very beginning of the season, fans have believed that Nat is the most likely to win MasterChef thanks to her odds on Sportsbet which sit at $1.33.

Nat has consistently proven herself to be one of this year’s top competitors, having wowed the judges multiple times with her intricate, creative, and technical dishes.

Josh P is sitting in the middle of the pack. (Images: Channel 10)

Following behind Nat in second place is Josh P who has odds of $4.33. The Tasmanian butcher has become a fan-favourite contestant thanks to his lovable personality.

Josh has proven himself as a real threat time and time again this season, and has given everything a crack. He loves making simple food that’s executed to perfection.

The 43-year-old has stayed true to his roots and always draws on inspiration from the cooks in his life, including his mum, aunty and grandmother.

Sportsbet has made accurate predictions in the past, including for recent reality shows.

The 2024 winners of Australian Survivor and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! were correctly predicted, while winners of previous seasons of My Kitchen Rules, Big Brother Australia and The Masked Singer Australia have also been correct.

As we move further through the 2024 season each week, the rankings and odds will undoubtedly change, so watch this space for more updates.

The winner of MasterChef will be determined by the judges in the finale, with the final remaining cooks having to create difficult and intricate dishes.

Their dishes will be given scores out of ten from each judge and the contestant with the most points in the end will be given the title of this year’s MasterChef.

MasterChef Australia has a brand-new look in 2024, with new judges Poh Ling Yeow, Jean-Christophe Novelli and Sofia Levin joining Andy Allen in the kitchen.

22 contestants entered Australia’s biggest cooking reality show this year, and they will be pushed to their limits in mystery box challenges, pressure tests, and group service challenges throughout the season.

As the episodes progress, contestants will start to be eliminated and their cooking dreams in the MasterChef kitchen will sadly come to an end.

They’re competing to gain valuable experience from industry professionals as well as to win $250,000 to kick-start their food careers, but only one can win.

We’ve now reached a pinnacle moment in the competition, with the final three contestants being confirmed. Josh P, Savindri and Nat are the only cooks who remain.

See who has left the MasterChef Australia kitchen so far in 2024…

(Image: Channel 10)

Savindri Perera

30, SA, Banking Consultant

The final three cooks put everything on the line in a final high-intensity service challenge, in the hopes of making it to the final two.

Sadly for Sav, the judges weren’t as impressed with her dishes as they were the other contestants, and she was sent home.

“There’s always that disappointment because you want to get to the end but, after that cook, I felt a sense of relief,” Sav told 10Play following her elimination.

(Image; Channel 10)

Harry Butterfield

29, QLD, Commercial Property

The final elimination challenge before the final three saw Harry’s food hero Josh Nilard enter the MasterChef kitchen, and challenge the remaining contestants to recreate an intricate seafood dish.

As the self-proclaimed ‘seafood guy’, Harry really felt the pressure to impress his hero as well as prove himself as a strong seafood cook.

Unfortunately, as Harry told 10Play, he “wasn’t trying to do [his] best, [he] was trying to be perfect,” and he was eliminated after he misinterpreted the instructions.

(Image: Channel 10)

Mimi Wong

25, NSW, High School Teacher

As the competition had reached an all-important milestone – the top five – the remaining cooks were pushed to their limits in one of the toughest challenges yet this season.

The judges revealed five ingredients with extremely strong and distinct flavours, and tasked the contestants to create a dish that balanced one of them.

Mimi chose to utilise a bitter gouda, but she encountered some obstacles throughout the cook that meant one of the main elements of the dish, her brioche buns, were unusable.

This meant the dish wasn’t balanced and she was sent home.

(Image: Channel 10)

Darrsh Clarke

31, WA, Management Consultant

Chef Guillaume Brahimi challenged the remaining contestants to a gruelling task: making five finished dishes.

Though he powered through the recipe early on, in doing so Darrsh sacrificed flavour and attention to detail.

The 31-year-old’s plating was inconsistent, and there was shell in his crab meat, so he was sadly eliminated.

(Image: Channel 10)

Lachlan Whittle

34, VIC, Landscape Gardener

MasterChef’s infamous and iconic Time Auction challenge is always a difficult task for the contestants, and this year was no different.

The cooks were given 120 minutes of cooking time to bid in exchange for ingredients, and though Lachlan’s lamb kofta dish was executed really well, the judges thought it lacked cohesion and he was sent home.

“It’s a good dish but the real fault is that they don’t go together,” Andy Allen shared.

(Image: Channel 10)

Sumeet Saigal

46, NSW, Sales Manager

The contestants were tasked with reimagining the classic ‘bacon and eggs’ in a surprise elimination challenge, but unfortunately Sumeet struggled to execute her dish.

Her breakfast naan was inconsistent and she was eliminated.

“When they revealed that it was my time to go, the most pronounced emotion that I felt was gratefulness. That’s the honest truth,” Sumeet shared following her elimination.

(Image: Channel 10)

Alex Crisp

27, WA, Sales Representative

After winning immunity in the first round of Sweet Week, Alex didn’t have to cook again as she was safe in the competition. But she admitted that this may have contributed to her detriment.

“As much as it was cool to take a step back and not have to be under pressure every single day, it kind of played to my detriment because for so long you’re in this routine of constant pressure and stress,” she told 10 Play.

So when the contestants were tasked with replicating a technically challenging dessert with over 100 steps created by chef Hugh Allen, she struggled to perform and was sent home.

(Image: Channel 10)

Gillian Dinh

31, NSW, Lettering Artist

Although she was so close to gaining immunity all throughout Sweet Week, Gillian found herself in the elimination challenge where she struggled due to her needing to include coffee in her dish – a flavour she’s not a huge fan of.

“It was like being slapped in the face from the start of Sweet Week to then, here you go! Here’s an ingredient that you don’t drink and never loved eating, trying, consuming,” she told 10Play.

The 31-year-old was ultimately eliminated as her dessert was over-baked.

(Image: Channel 10)

Josh Clarke

27, QLD, Coffee Roaster

A plant-based challenge pushed the contestants to create a dish without any animal products, while still celebrating meat.

Josh C attempted to create a classic steak and jus dish using just carrots, however his reimagination fell short and he was eliminated from the MasterChef kitchen.

“Honestly, this was probably my least favourite challenge of all the challenges up until this point,” Josh told 10 Play.

(Image: Channel 10)

Sue Bazely

58, VIC, Customer Manager

The contestants were treated to an appearance from another guest judge, this time Australian celebrity chef Curtis Stone.

The cooks were challenged to keep up with Curtis in a brutal challenge and from the get-go, Sue struggled.

Sadly there were too many elements with issues in her dish, and she was sent home.

(Image: Channel 10)

David Tan

30, QLD, Pharmacologist

Guest judge, celebrity chef Rick Stein, challenged the contestants to create a dish that heroed raw seafood. Having never prepared raw fish before, David admitted he was nervous.

His tuna dish with raspberries and apple puree was labelled too imbalanced by the judges, which meant he had to cook again in round two. David’s smoked salmon with couscous and fennel salads was the weakest dish and he sadly left the competition.

(Image: Channel 10)

Savindri Perera

30, SA, Banking Consultant

A gruelling four-hour pressure test pushed the contestants to their limits, and they had to recreate an extremely technical and intricate dish by Darren Purchese.

Fan-favourite Savindri had a chaotic experience in the kitchen and she wasn’t feeling confident when she plated her dish in front of the judges.

Sav was ultimately eliminated due to her brownie being dry, and her cheesecake lacking balance.

However, in a MasterChef twist the previously eliminated contestants were given the opportunity to win back their spot in the competition. Savindri’s dish was deemed the best and she re-entered the MasterChef kitchen.

(Image: Channel 10)

Stephen Dennis

62, QLD, Tour Guide

All of the remaining contestants partook in an elimination challenge where the judges gave the cooks a seemingly simple task: creating a dish that featured egg in an interesting way.

Unfortunately for 62-year-old Stephen, his dish didn’t come together quite as he had imagined and he was sent home.

“Going into the challenge I wasn’t worried at all, but as I went through I started having cracks come apart and I suddenly realised I wasn’t working as well as I normally do. I wasn’t as calm as I normally was,” Stephen said after his elimination.

(Image: Channel 10)

Snezana Calic

40, VIC, Financial Services

Special guest Anna Polyviou, “the punk dessert” icon, challenged contestants to recreate an original dessert she crafted just for this challenge.

The dish was extremely intricate, and no element tasted like what it appeared to be.

Snezana struggled throughout the cook, with multiple elements needing to be remade, and although she managed to plate her dish in a way that looked identical to Anna’s, the flavours weren’t well-balanced and she was eliminated.

(Image: Channel 10)

Juan De La Cruz Torales Villarreal

39, NSW, Board Game Designer

Last night, the cooks were put to the test during a gruelling two-round elimination.

In the first round, Juan De La Cruz got overwhelmed by the challenge and wrongly assumed his dish needed to be inspired by guest-judge Luke Nguyen’s love of Vietnamese food. The dish was not his best and in the second round he returned to his Argentinian roots and made empanadas.

Unfortunately, the flavours were lacking and his time in the competition came to an end.

(Image: Channel 10)

Lourdes Leschen

22, VIC, Marketing Coordinator

In a tough elimination challenge, four contestants had to recreate a challenging and intricate dish.

Unfortunately for Lourdes, the youngest cook in the competition, her egg yolk and sauce were both overcooked which disrupted the balance of the dish.

The 22-year-old was sent home after the judges decided her dish was the least like the original.

(Image: Channel 10)

Lily Davies

30, NSW, Former Nurse

A classic MasterChef challenge, the blind taste test, had the contestants relying on only their senses of taste and smell to try and identify ingredients.

Lily was named in the bottom six after struggling to correctly name enough ingredients and had to cook a dish using only the ingredients from the first round where she struggled to come up with a dish concept.

The 30-year-old former nurse said she felt “really deflated” going into the cook and was ultimately eliminated after she was deemed to have had the weakest dish. Lily revealed she had a “gut instinct” that she was going home.

(Image: Getty)

Khristian Walker

26, VIC, Insurance Services

After being named in the bottom four, Khristian had to participate in this season’s first Pressure Test cookoff where he was tasked with recreating one of Jean-Christophe Novelli’s most intricate dishes.

Unfortunately for the 26-year-old, nothing really seemed to go his way during the cook, and he was sent home after the judges decided there were too many elements that weren’t up to par.

(Image: Channel 10)

Jonathan Hooper

29, NSW, Carpenter

29-year-old Jonathan was eliminated after failing to impress the judges with his iteration of one of judge Andy Allen’s mum’s favourite dishes.

The carpenter had a bit of a mishap in round one where his cheesecake stuck to the pan and the judges struggled to get it out and he had to cook again in round two.

In the end, Sofia said the elements of his pappardelle pasta felt “clumsy” and the judges deemed he had the weakest dish so he was sent home.

(Image: Channel 10)

Steph Griffen

28, QLD, Events Manager

After a tough challenge where the contestants had to recreate one of Jamie Oliver’s dishes alongside him, Steph was sadly sent home.

The 28-year-old’s dish had some inconsistencies and her chicken was overcooked, and unfortunately that meant she was eliminated.

(Image: Channel 10)

James Holmes

38, WA, Primary School Teacher

James was the first contestant eliminated from MasterChef this season.

The 38-year-old from Western Australia failed to impress the judges with his squid dish which was undercooked and had conflicting flavours.

Poh described it as “one of the least impressive dishes” of the night, and with the other judges agreeing, he was sent home.

Sam Neill ventures to rural Australia for The Twelve season two https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/the-twelve-season-two/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 04:52:04 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=516144 Everything we know about the new season.

The post Sam Neill ventures to rural Australia for The Twelve season two appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Following a controversial murder trial through the eyes of 12 jury members captured the attention from people across the globe in 2022 and now The Twelve returns with season two.

Showcasing some of Australia’s legacy actors including Sam Neill, Brooke Satchwell, and Kate Mulvany, The Twelve received three awards at the 2023 TV Week Logie Awards.

(Image: Binge)

With such a stellar first season, fans are itching to know what to expect in the new season, particularly who will be returning.

As we impatiently wait for The Twelve season two, we’ve answered all your burning questions below.

What is the plot for The Twelve?

The first season followed 12 ordinary Australian’s called in for jury duty whose hopes, fears, secrets, trauma and prejudices are on the stand just as much as the accused.

These citizens must decide whether artist Kate Lawson is guilty or innocent after being accused of killing Claire Spears, her 14-year-old niece. In the end, Kate was found guilty.

However, the second season of the crime drama will take place in rural Western Australia where a local landowner and respected town member. Bernice Price is found dead. Her two ex-lovers have been accused of her shock murder. But are they guilty?

(Image: Binge)

When does The Twelve season two release?

The second season of the hit Binge series will release on July 11, 2024.

What true story is The Twelve based on?

The Twelve is not based on a true story.

For those hunting a true crime story, this series is not the place to look. The Australian version of the series was inspired by a Belgian series created by Bert Van Dael and Sanne Nuyens.

The original series did, however, involve a lot of research on the judicial system from its creators.

“We put a lot of time in the research of our show. We really wanted to get to know how it felt inside a jury room. How much bias do we take with us? Every person has a background. How much of personal background defines our judgements? These were the ultimate questions for us while developing the series,” they said in an interview with Variety.

Who is the cast for The Twelve season two?

Acclaimed actor Sam Neill returns as Brett Colby in the new season, joined by Frances O’Connor, Tasma Walton, Kris McQuade, Amy Mathews, Erroll Shand, Fayssal Bazzi, Josh McKenzie, Anthony Brandon Wong, Stefanie Caccamo, Luke Pegler, Adriano Cappelletta, Nelson Baker, Greg McNeill, Suesha Rana, Brad Francis, and Isabelle Basen.

Unfortunately, fan-favourites Brooke Satchwell and Kate Mulvany will not be returning for a second season.

The Block’s Sharon Johal has landed the role as a juror, and revealed she cried after hearing the news.

“It’s quality TV – with quality writers, directors and cast, and it kind of reminds me of BBC dramas,” she told TV WEEK. “I just felt so special. I was out to dinner with Ankur when I got the phone call and we both cried.”

“I can hands down say this was the best set I’ve ever worked on. The work, obviously, but also the people. It’s so inclusive.”

Where to watch The Twelve:

The Twelve is available for streaming on Binge in Australia. The first season is available for first time watchers – or those simply wanting to rewatch the series.

Stream The Twelve on BINGE from $10/mth, with a 7-day free trial.

The Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood will explore the love story of a different generation https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/tv/outlander-blood-of-my-blood-79600/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 04:14:21 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/tv/outlander-blood-of-my-blood-79600 But can it compare to Jamie and Claire's story?

The post The Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood will explore the love story of a different generation appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Our favourite period drama Outlander will leave a giant Scotsman sized hole in our heart when its final eighth season airs, but we’re hoping its prequel Blood of My Blood will ease the heartache.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is a prequel series to the iconic historical drama, following the respective love story of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents’ love story in 18th century Scotland and World War I England.

First look images of the prequel. (Credit: Starz)

While nothing can compare to the legendary love story that is Jamie and Claire’s, many of the brilliant minds behind Outlander will continue boast their talents in the spin-off series.

Outlander’s showrunner Matthew B Roberts explained to The Herald in early 2023 that the prequel is “at its heart, a love story.”

“It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain,” he said.

“The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire and there will be several names and faces that Outlander fans will know and recognise.”

First look images at the Outlander spin-off. (Credit: Starz)

Who is cast in Blood of My Blood?

Playing Jamie’s mother Ellen Mackenzie is Harriet Slater, and her on-screen love interest is Jamie Roy as Jamie’s father Brian Fraser. Meanwhile, playing out the origin story of Claire’s parents is Hermione Corfield as Julia Moriston and Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp.

As for the familiar faces Matthew B Roberts discussed, some fan-favourite characters from Outlander will feature in Blood of My Blood as younger versions including Rory Alexander (Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser), Sam Retford (Dougal Mackenzie), Seamus McLeanRoss (Colum Mackenzie), and Conor MacNeill (Ned Gowan).

What do we know about Jamie Fraser’s parents?

Little information has been revealed regarding Jamie’s parents, Brian and Ellen. However, when the Scottish heartthrob does speak of them, he does so tenderly. His parents fell in love quickly, with the pair getting married and falling pregnant before Ellen’s family could object.

Ellen, sadly passed away during childbirth while in labour with her fourth baby. Jamie was one of three children, including Jenny and the eldest William who passed at a young age due to smallpox.

Meanwhile, Jamie’s dad died of apoplexy, brought on by having to watch his son being brutally tortured. Believing his son to be dead, Brian collapsed and sadly died a few days later.

What book is Blood of My Blood based on?

The prequel series will be based on Outlander author Diana Gabaldon’s tenth book, which Matthew revealed she is working “diligently” on.

Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be coming to an end with Season 8, but Diana is continuing on with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on Book 10,” he told the publication.

Diana will also act as consulting producer on the spin-off, ensuring the core story of the prequel will be protected.

In a heart-warming moment at Wimbledon, Catherine, Princess of Wales was given a standing ovation as she made her way to Centre Court to watch Carlos Alcaraz’s victory over Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final.

The Princess, 42, looking radiant in purple – one of Wimbledon’s official colours – attended the tournament with her daughter Princess Charlotte, nine, and sister Pippa Middleton, 40.

This marks Kate’s second public appearance since her shock cancer diagnosis in March, following Trooping the Colour where she also received an outpouring of public support.

PRINCESS CATHERINE’S ROYAL DUTY

Princess Catherine has been the patron of the All England Club since 2016. And her ceremonial duties include handing out the winner’s trophies after the singles finals. It’s something the crowds look forward to each year.

Initially, plans were made for the Duchess of Gloucester, who has served as Honorary President of the Lawn Tennis Association for 25 years, to step in if the Princess of Wales was unable to attend due to her ongoing treatment.

However, Buckingham Palace confirmed before the event that Princess Catherine would indeed be in attendance.

Princess Charlotte looked so proud of her mum as she received a standing ovation. (Image: Getty)

And you could tell by Kate’s beaming smile at the event that she was thrilled to be back court-side, honouring the players for their incredible effort.

It was such a lovely moment, watching the Princess make her way down from the stands to the playing surface to present the trophies, the crowd in awe of Catherine’s strength and grace.

On her way, she smiled and shook hands with some of the tournament’s ball kids. She also struck up some friendly chit-chat with both players and clapped for Carlos after giving him the trophy for the second year in a row.

“ENJOY THE WIN”

The Princess told Carlos that he “played so well”. (Image: Getty)

Inside the tournament’s main stadium, Catherine told Carlos, “You played so well. Enjoy the win.”

On seeing Kate at the event in his post-match news conference, Novak said, “It was, of course, a privilege to be in her presence again. I’ve said to her that it is very nice to see her in good health. She seems to be in good health.

“That’s obviously very positive news for everyone in this country, but also for Wimbledon.”

After the event culminated, Princess Catherine shared a beautiful image of herself at Wimbledon, captioned: “Great to be back at @Wimbledon!

“There’s nothing quite like The Championships 🎾

Of course, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ comments blew up with overwhelming positivity for Catherine.

WIMBLEDON WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN THE SAME

It was the perfect mother-daughter day. (Image: Instagram)

Actress Olivia Munn commented: “You’re a champion. 🤍🤍🤍”.

Another commented: “So wonderful to see you looking healthy and beautiful. Welcome back, Princess Catherine and Princess Charlotte!”

And journalist and royal correspondent for Vanity Fair Katie Nicholl said what we all were thinking: “It wouldn’t have been the same without you Your Royal Highness 💜”.

Prince William is usually a regular at Wimbledon finals. However, he missed Sunday as he planned to be in Germany to watch England face Spain in the final of the men’s soccer European Championship. William is the president of the English Football Association.

Here, we take a look back at all Catherine, Princess of Wales’ best Wimbledon moments.

The Block confirms Daylesford as its 2025 filming location despite previous challenges https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/the-block-2025-filming-location/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 01:53:31 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=1252356 The Network can't get enough of Daylesford.

The post The Block confirms Daylesford as its 2025 filming location despite previous challenges appeared first on Now To Love.

While fans are yet to watch the 2024 season of The Block, the brilliant minds working behind the scenes have already secured a filming location for 2025.

The renovation series will be travelling to the historic country town of Daylesford in Victoria for its 21st season.

For those closely following The Block may recognise the town name as it was previously intended to be the original filming location for the 2024 season. However, the local residents of Daylesford quickly disputed the idea, according to The Age which also commented the site approval by the Hepburn Shine was being challenged.

The network made the decision to ditch Daylesford for its special anniversary season and head to Victoria’s Phillip Island.

“We’ve had so many successful series in so many different locations, but we don’t go where we are not welcome,” a production insider told The Age. “Especially for the 20th series of The Block, which is so important.”

But it seems The Block producers couldn’t look past the beautiful town as production returns to Daylesford in 2025, meaning the residents appeal was rejected.

The wholesome town is located just over an hour drive from Melbourne’s city centre and is best known for its natural springs, scenic farmland and forest. It has also become a tourist destination for its Central Highlands.

In a statement to 9Entertainment, The Block’s executive producer Julian Cress said it was a “no brainer” to return to Daylesford.

“I’ve been spending time with the community and I think they are really excited for us to bring the show there next year,” he said.

“We also try to film as much of our show focusing on the local community and whether that be renovating a community project, or just being able to showcase great local artisans and businesses.”

Julian confirmed the housing getting a refresh in The Block 2025 are located on Raglan Street, Daylesford.

Will House of the Dragon season two mark the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty? https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/tv/where-to-watch-house-of-the-dragon-australia-79469/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 23:48:34 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/tv/where-to-watch-house-of-the-dragon-australia-79469 ''No war so bloody as a war between dragons.''

The post Will House of the Dragon season two mark the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty? appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
We entered the story at the height of the Targaryen dynasty, and now the second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon is delving into its downfall.

With devastating war, dragons going head-to-head and family bonds being pushed to the limit, season two of House of the Dragon sees the continuation of the Dance of the Dragons.

Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood – roughly 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.

House of the Dragon covers the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, which was during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s father.

With House of the Dragon’s second season finally airing, discover everything you need to know below.

How did House of the Dragon season one end?

Before we dive into season two, here is a refresher given the near-two-year hiatus.

Young Lucerys Velaryon died at the hands of Aemond Targaryen and his dragon Vhagar. As Lucerys died, so too did Rhaenyra’s hope of peace.

Devastated by the loss of her son, the series ends with the promise of a bloody and brutal battle.

What is the plot for House of Dragon, season two?

The trailer, which summarises what you can expect this season, opens with Rhaenyra looking defeated and heartbroken as a voice states, “Errors were made in the hours following King Visery’s death.”

The newly crowned Aegon II is placed in evil light as he storms through the crown room, guards in his stead. Viewers also see glimpses of Daemon Targaryen and Aemond, the prince killer.

Banners representing the Targaryen and Hightower march with fields full of soldiers bring the promise of war.

Women, in particular Alicent and Rhaenyra, remain the heart of House of the Dragon as they are reluctant to destroy their family and the kingdom despite the trailer teasing a brutal war.

“There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin,” Rhaenyra said. To which her aunt Rhaenys Targaryen reminds her, “And no war so bloody as a war between dragons.”

When is House of the Dragon season two released?

House of the Dragon premiered with its first episode on June 17 on Binge,

How does House of the Dragon end?

Don’t continue reading if you want a spoiler-free House of the Dragon viewing. However, if you’re a Game of Thrones fan, it may have already been spoiled.

Sadistic young monarch, Joffrey spoiled Rhaenyra’s tragic fate while showing his betrothed, Margaery Tyrell, her grave in season three, episode four of Game of Thrones. He gleefully revealed that she was murdered by her brother’s dragon.

“Rhaenrya Targaryen was murdered by her brother or rather his dragon. It ate her while her son watched,” he laughed. “What’s left of her is buried in the crypts right down there.”

Based on the plot of Fire & Blood, the brother Joffrey is referring to is none other than Aegon II, Alicent and Viserys I’s son.

Bridgerton star Ben Miller was “cancelled” eight years ago. Here’s why https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/why-bridgerton-ben-miller-was-cancelled/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519713 He won't make the mistake again!

In these trying times, it appears no-one is truly safe from the dreaded “cancel culture” – not even the multi-faceted and charming British actor Ben Miller, who tells TV WEEK how a seemingly innocent television interview in 2016 inspired the moral lynch mob to come after him.

Actors Ben Miller, Michael Theo and Sally Phillips
Ben was thrilled to join ABC series Austin with Michael Theo and Sally Phillips (Credit: ABC)

“It was on UK chat show The One Show and the discussion was about home schooling,” Ben, 58, says. “If I’m honest, I was only half paying attention, as I was thinking about what I was going to say in my bit. And the host turned to me and asked, ‘So, Ben – what do you think of home schooling?’ Like a performing monkey, I came up with a jokey answer about how it’s an excuse for parents to sit around at home in their pyjamas.”

Thinking little more of it, the star continued with the interview, and it wasn’t until he returned home later that night and started getting “pings on his mobile phone that he realised something was wrong.

Ben Miller in blue shirt leaning on book case

“I logged onto Twitter [now known as X] and all these home schoolers were in understandable outrage at my complete disregard for home schooling! I was like, ‘Oh wow, I wasn’t expecting that – it was just an off-the-cuff’ joke!’”

Ben adds that, rather ironically, just a few years later the COVID-19 pandemic would mean he’d have to home-school his own three kids and he found out first-hand just how difficult it can be.

“Getting my kids to do anything is hard enough, but getting them to do schoolwork was one level beyond anything I’m capable of,” he laughs. “So, of course, my mind went back to all those home schoolers and the barrage of criticism, and I realised how much I sympathised with them and that they had a point. It educated me.” Ben’s experience inspired the story of Austin, the new ABC comedy in which he plays children’s author Julian Hartswood who, after unintentionally retweeting a Nazi, finds himself shunned.

The actor – who’s starred in the Johnny English film franchise, crime comedy drama Death In Paradise, period drama Bridgerton, and most recently crime drama Professor T – says working on a smaller production such as Austin was some of the most fun he’s had.

“It doesn’t get much better than with Austin,” he admits. “We’re a small crew and everybody is a huge part of the process, [whereas] on a huge show like Bridgerton, the machinery of making it is so enormous that generally there are just a clutch of people making the creative decisions. Those sets have to be a bit more dictatorial.”

He adds that he and his Austin co-stars, in particular Sally Phillips, Michael Theo and Gia Carides – who plays Austin’s mum Mel – were one “close, dysfunctional family.”

“We were all staying in this apartment block and there was a sort of campus feel to the whole thing. I think it was the first time Michael had lived away from home, so there was a bit of a party atmosphere with us all hanging out together.”

Ben Miller as Lord Featherington in Netflix series Bridgerton (Credit: Netflix)

Along with it being Michael’s first time living out of home, Austin marks the Love On The Spectrum star’s first foray into acting. It’s a fact Ben can hardly comprehend.

“To say that Michael is a natural actor is the greatest understatement,” he enthuses. “I’m trying to figure out why he’s so good when he’s relatively inexperienced. I think it’s because he’s always loved comedy and TV and film. He’s [also] kind of got comedy in his bones.

“In addition, he’s one of those incredibly empathetic people, so he really connects with characters and understands what makes them tick. I think that shows on screen. He’s a joy to work with.”

Home and Away spoilers: Could this be the beginning of the end for Irene? https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/home-and-away-spoilers-irene-breaks-sobriety/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519725 Back to the bottle

The post Home and Away spoilers: Could this be the beginning of the end for Irene? appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
After years of living a sober life, Irene gives into her demons and races towards her biggest kryptonite this week on Home and Away; alcohol.

Still grappling with guilt, Irene (Lynne McGranger) is holing herself up in her home away from the world as the consequences of her actions with scammer Bronte (Stefanie Caccamo) run rampant in her head.

Irene looks lost as she attempts to have breakfast alone.
Already feeling the guilt of the scam, an utterly lost Irene now feels worse for drinking. (Credit: Channel Seven)

She almost willingly bankrupted herself and her business which she co-owns with her best friend Leah (Ada Nicodemou), and Dana (Ally Harris) could have been killed after she was kidnapped by the scammers and held in a shipping container!

How did she let Bronte pull the wool over her eyes so much?

“Irene has always prided herself on being a great judge of character,” Lynne, 71, tells TV WEEK.

“And of course, with Bronte, this has gone completely down the toilet.”

Irene's friend John (Shane Withington) attempts to comfort her at her home.

Unable to get out of bed, a concerned John (Shane Withington) comes to check on her when she fails to show up for work, but when his attempt at comfort inadvertently upsets her, she swiftly kicks him out and runs to a secret stash of whisky she had been hiding under the sink.

Despite every intuition telling her not to, Irene pours herself a drink and throws it back.

And then a second one for good measure.

Irene is officially off the wagon.

“The shame and despair that she feels is why she goes back to alcohol because it’s an escape for her as most alcoholics know,” adds Lynne.

A bottle down, Irene then makes her way into the coffee cart, where a puzzled Leah and Marilyn (Emily Symons) are shocked to see her fumbling around the place. And when she interferes with Dana and Xander (Luke Van Os), who are having a conversation about their relationship, it’s clear to everyone around her that something is very wrong with Irene.

Irene (Lynne McGranger) goes for a bottle of whiskey she had stashed under the sink.

While Irene has a troubling history with alcohol abuse, she’s always managed to come back from it with the help of her friends. However, will the guilt of Bronte’s scam prove too much for Irene this time, and will it be the final straw that pushes her over the edge?

Dancing With The Star’s Julie Goodwin: “I’m Absolutely Devastated” https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/reality-tv/dancing-with-the-stars-2024-julie-goodwin/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519266 The star's determined to prove her doctors wrong – and dance!

Julie Goodwin tells Woman’s Day she’s “absolutely devastated” after she was told by doctors she may have to sit this season of Dancing With The Stars out after tearing her calf muscle in two places.

“I was in enormous pain when it happened – sweating bullets. It was the kind of pain that you can’t even sort of tell people ‘I’m OK.’ Because I wasn’t OK, I really wasn’t,” says Julie, who injured herself rehearsing for the reality show.

RECIPE FOR DISASTER

“I had to be carried out of the studio, because I couldn’t even put my foot down on the floor. I was rushed straight to the doctor.”

And it wasn’t good news for the celebrity cook.

“The scan showed that it was very, very serious. Two bad tears in my calf muscle. There were tears,” she says.

“When I got that news from the doctor, I thought, well, ‘That’s the end of that, I just felt shattered.’”

Especially as the 53-year-old says she dropped everything for Dancing.

“As soon as I made the commitment, I put everything else aside. I was training five and six and even seven days a week,” says the MasterChef winning cooking queen.

“I ramped up all my exercise. I started training at a whole new gym as well as the gym I already went to. I really was committed to being as fit and strong as I could be because I didn’t want to injure myself.

“I didn’t want to not be able to keep up and I didn’t want to get puffed. I really did everything in my power to get in the kind of physical condition I needed to be in.

“It was months of hard work and then, right at the very last minute, right before I was going to go on and do my first number, this happens.”

After 15 years in TV though, Julie believes in the idea that the show must go on!

NOT GIVING IN

Julie lies in bed in pain.
The pain was “unspeakable”. (Image: Seven)

And while it’s now up in the air if she’ll get to make her DWTS dancefloor debut, the determined star is going to try!

“I don’t give up that easy,” she tells Woman’s Day. “I’m stubborn. The doctors can tell me what the doctors want to tell me and I’ll take that under advisement and then see if I can prove them wrong.”

She’s also practical, though. “If I can’t get out there and dance I think I’ll need a while to recover emotionally because it’s just been a beautiful time and a really special experience,” she says. “I would really hate for it to end like this.”

Julie also wants to don the sparkles and dance her heart out for her three-year-old granddaughter Delilah.

“First it was my children, and now my grandchild, everything I do it’s just to show them you give things a go – and don’t be frightened to get outside your comfort zone because that’s where the best parts of life happen.”

SAS Australia’s Ant Middleton faces some huge challenges on the dance floor https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/dancing-with-the-stars-australia-2024-ant-middleton/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519585 'I got emotional'

The post SAS Australia’s Ant Middleton faces some huge challenges on the dance floor appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Ant Middleton has served in the UK Special Forces and climbed the world’s two highest mountains. But when he was asked to go on Dancing With The Stars Australia, he felt “a bolt of fear” go through him. The glitz and glam of the dance floor was way out of his comfort zone, but that wasn’t all.

“That fear of what people think about you, how people are going to see you and judge you, that hit me as well,” SAS Australia’s chief instructor tells TV WEEK from his home in Dubai.

“I’m going to be on TV doing a skill set I know nothing about. Obviously, failure is staring me in the face.”

Ant Middleton dances his heart out on the set of Dancing With The Stars with dance partner, Alexandra Vladimirov

Once Ant felt that fear, he knew what he had to do.

“There’s no growth in comfort,” he says. “So it was an instant yes, but with the engulfing fear of, ‘Oh my God – how am I going to come out of this?’”

Ant, 43, says training with his dance partner Alexandra Vladimirov for up to six hours a day was “intense”.

“I was sweating from the first minute to the last,” he says. “I’ve done more rigorous training than that, but the intensity and the different type of training that engaged different muscles… I lost a few kilograms, for sure.”

Training wasn’t just a physical challenge for Ant. Alex told him he needed to “bring the emotion” into the dance.

“I guard my emotions and keep them quite close to my chest,” he says. “But she was like, ‘No, this is the opportunity to let your emotions do the talking for you.’ It wasn’t until one of the routines that I got quite emotional, actually. I started really welling up.

“I realised the power of dance. That sounds really, really corny, but I realised, ‘Wow – there’s so much that goes into dancing.’”

Ant, who has four children – Shyla, Gabriel, Priseis and Bligh – with his wife Emilie, as well as a son, Oakley, from a previous relationship, says his family were “super-supportive” of his performances. It was just his costumes they found funny.

“[They had] a few laughs and giggles at my expense,” he adds, “But it’s all part and parcel of your family keeping you grounded.”

After Dancing with the Stars, viewers will see Ant in his documentary about climbing K2, the second-highest mountain in the world “but the most dangerous”. Beyond that, he’s keen for more SAS Australia. So which of his DWTS co-stars would do well on SAS?

“All of them,” he declares. “Everyone was committed, everyone was focused,” adding that if they did go on the show, they’d be in for a “complete shock”.

“They’d be like, ‘Hey Ant,’ and I’d be like, ‘Who the hell are you calling ‘Ant’? It’s ‘Staff’ to you! Right, get down and give me 20!’”

Dancing With The Stars airs Sunday’s at 7pm on Channel Seven. For more information on what’s on TV this week, read our comprehensive TV Guide.

Jelena Dokic: “Beauty isn’t a number on a scale” https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/celebrity-news/jelena-dokic-health-journey/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=519495 After losing 20kg, the star is opening up about her positive mindset.

The post Jelena Dokic: “Beauty isn’t a number on a scale” appeared first on Now To Love.

Dancing down her hallway to Mariah Carey’s Fantasy, tennis legend Jelena Dokic can’t wipe the smile off her face as she embraces “starting her day with positivity” while doing a little bit of silly morning dancing!

It’s just one of the many positive changes Jelena Dokic has made recently.

After years of struggling with her mental health, the tennis pro turned commentator is working hard to shift her internal narrative.

JELENA DOKIC JOURNEY

Jelena Dokic is a sports commentator.

She’s gone from “victim to survivor to thriver” and “let go of hate and approach life with kindness, compassion and gratitude”.

She released her first book Unbreakable seven years ago, which details the emotional and physical abuse she suffered throughout her tennis career at the hands of her father.

And Jelena says she’s still feeling the effects of writing it. It unleashed a profound change in her life.

TIME FOR CHANGE

The child prodigy, who came to Australia as a refugee in 1994 from the former Yugoslavia, is finally able to see that there’s more to life than tennis.

“I always thought that what I do in tennis will define me and who I am as a person and how worthy I am,” she tells Go Behind The Mask podcast. “I believed that for a long time.”

Now through therapy the 41-year-old is realising that she’s worth more than just her achievements on court.

“I only really discovered that through the journey of writing.

“That’s why I’ll say it every single day for the rest of my life: Unbreakable changed my life, and it saved my life. It gave me a voice, I was free,” Jelena tells The Guardian.

FINDING A PURPOSE

She retired in 2014 but felt lost and struggled to find a purpose.

Far from being a celebrity issuing empty platitudes on Instagram, Jelena uses the darkest elements of her story to connect with people who have suffered similar traumas.

It’s helping her find “my calling”.

Because finding a purpose after being a professional athlete is tough, says the Wimbledon commentator. She felt lonely and lost after retiring in 2014, while feeling like she hadn’t reached her full potential.

“I was a woman with nothing to aspire to, no goals and dreams left,” Jelena tells The Guardian.

“And to now be doing this – if you told me that 10 years ago, I would have told you that you are literally crazy… I have a lot of joy in my life now, I’m thriving.”

THE POWER OF SPEAKING

She adds that becoming a motivational speaker and consistently speaking up about her experience “has actually saved my life at times”.

Social media has also allowed her to create a community to share her experiences with people, even if sometimes cruel trolls weigh her down.

Recently she took to Instagram to address her weight loss and the “myth of perfection”, after she was trolled online.

WEIGHT LOSS BATTLE

Her weight was at its heaviest last year.
The tennis star was at her heaviest last year but has worked hard to lose 20kg.

“I had some health issues but also I just wanted to get healthier and fitter and when I turned 40 last year I really started to think about my family history of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems.”

Jelena has lost 20kg and adds that while she’s happy she’s lost the weight for health reasons, it won’t change who she is.

“I still want people to value me and others based on whether we are kind and good people. I will always be proud of myself and not hide or be embarrassed no matter what size I am,” she writes.

“Beauty is not what is on the outside. Beauty is not the number on the scale or having a pretty face. Beauty is having a beautiful mind, a beautiful heart and a beautiful soul. Beauty is being kind, empathetic, hard working and a good person.”

We couldn’t agree more!

The post EXCLUSIVE: Today’s Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo are live from the Paris Olympics appeared first on Now To Love.

Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo giggle when asked how they think they’re going to go travelling overseas for the very first time together this week to cover the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“We’ve been doing the show together for a year-and-a-half now, so that’s pretty much long distance,” Karl, 49, quips to TV WEEK. “But we’ve had some special tracksuits made, and we’re really excited to get over there. There’s no better event to present in the world.”

“We adore working with each other, so to do an event of this size on the world stage is a real thrill,” Sarah, 38, says, adding, “I’ve been trying to teach Karl a bit of French too – he’s an alright student,” before Karl interjects, “Oh no – I’m absolutely hopeless. I’m thinking of taking a personal translator with me.”

The Today co-hosts agree that Paris is one of their favourite places in the world, after Australia of course, and are most looking forward to soaking up the atmosphere in the French capital at an event that’s very much needed right now.

“I think it’s been a bit of a tough year. People are struggling financially; there are all sorts of storm clouds on the horizon,” Karl says. “To have this break in the middle of the year, where we can come together as a nation, and get behind these magnificent athletes, is going to be spectacular.”

So who are they keeping their eye on?

“Just watching [swimmer] Ariarne Titmus muscle up every time she gets in a race, she’s got that kind of Cathy Freeman pressure,” Sarah says, while Karl says he’s keen to watch paddling sisters Jessica and Noemi Fox in the new kayak cross event.

“It’s such a beautiful family story, with their parents having competed as canoeists in past Olympics [dad Richard for Great Britain in 1992 and mum Myriam for France in 1996],” he says. “It’s a beautiful legacy for them.”

The pair will broadcast Today live from the Trocadéro – which is just opposite the Eiffel Tower – from the week leading into the Games, where each morning, they’ll bring viewers highlights from that day.

“I think that’s the best part – that Aussies can wake up to anything they might have missed the night before. We’re going to deliver it to them on a silver platter,” Sarah says.

And, of course, it won’t be all work and no play.

“To be able to whack a couple of baguettes in our gobs in between, some Beaujolais [French red wine], maybe some snails… it doesn’t get any better,” Karl enthuses, adding that he’s even hoping for a swim in the Seine!

“I’ve been training – I’ve been swimming in the Yarra [in Melbourne] as part of my preparation,” he says with a laugh. “Anything can happen and we’re ready for anything!”

The Olympics are about to kick off in Paris soon. And while in years past, the focus has been on the competitors, this year, the Olympic Games venues are set to steal the show.

From the iconic Eiffel Tower and world-renowned Champ de Mars to the Château De Versailles, jaws are set to drop in France’s City of Light for the Olympic Games.

Let’s take a look at the Olympic Games venues that, alone, are worth booking a ticket to Paris for.

THE 11 MOST ICONIC PARIS 2024 OLYMPIC GAMES VENUES

(Image: Getty)

01

STADE DE FRANCE

Paris 2024 sports: Athletics, Rugby Sevens

Capacity: 77,083

Arguably France’s most well-known stadium and definitely its largest, Stade de France was built to host the 1998 men’s FIFA World Cup.

And it has served its purpose well, hosting multiple games, including the nail-biting match where Les Bleus famously won its first world championship against Brazil.

02

ROLAND-GARROS STADIUM

Paris 2024 sports: Tennis, Boxing

Capacity: 34,000

Roland-Garros Stadium has hosted the French Open for nearly a century.

The legendary sports complex, named in memory of French aviator Roland Garros, spans more than 12 hectares dotted with 18 clay courts.

(Image: Getty)

03

STADE VÉLODROME

Paris 2024 sports: Football

Capacity: 67,394

The Stade Vélodrome, also known as the Orange Velodrome, was originally built for cycling events. But it has since evolved to host various sports and significant events.

Built in 1937, the stadium has hosted memorable sporting events, including the 1938 and 1998 Football World Cups and the 2016 European Football Championships.

(Image: Getty)

04

PLACE DE LA CONCORDE

Paris 2024 sports: BMX Freestyle, Skateboarding, Breaking, 3X3 Basketball

Capacity: 30,000

Place de la Concorde is one of the largest and most famous public squares in Paris. Filled with rich history, the Place once served as a central stage for the French Revolution.

And it’s also held some of the nation’s biggest festivities like the victorious celebration at the end of World War I, the Liberation of Paris in World War II and even the French men’s national team taking home the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

(Image: Getty)

05

PARC DES PRINCES

Paris 2024 sports: Football

Capacity: 47,926

This impressive stadium was designed by architect Roger Taillibert who also lays claim to Montreal’s Olympic Stadium.

The ‘Parc’ was built back in 1972 and has been the home of football club Paris Saint-Germain since 1974. With regular upkeep, the stadium shines as brightly today as it did back then.

(Image: Getty)

06

GRAND PALAIS

Paris 2024 sports: Fencing, Taekwondo

Capacity: 8,000

The Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées, more commonly known as simply the Grand Palais, stuns with its incredible nave and glass roof in the heart of Paris.

The iconic complex, which is listed as a historic monument by the French Ministry of Culture, wears many hats. Today it serves as a museum, art gallery, exhibition and concert hall as well as a sports venue, on occasion.

(Image: Getty)

07

CHÂTEAU DE VERSAILLES

Paris 2024 sports: Equestrian, Modern Pentathlon

Capacity: upwards of 40,000, depending on the event

The previous home to the court of King Louis XIV, The Château de Versailles was the first French site to ever be awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979.

Also known as the Palace of Versailles in English, the site will see a temporary outdoor arena erected in the heart of the Palace’s gardens, which will stage the dressage, eventing cross country and jumping competitions. The modern pentathlon events, except for the fencing ranking rounds, will also take place here.

(Image: Getty)

08

CHAMP DE MARS ARENA & EIFFEL TOWER STADIUM

Paris 2024 sports: Beach Volleyball, Judo, Wrestling

Capacity: 8,356

While you might not have known its name, you’ve definitely seen this stunning greenspace before. Nestled between the Eiffel Tower on one side and the École Militaire to the other, The Champ de Mars lawns have traditionally been used as drilling and marching grounds by the French military.

The Champ de Mars Arena is a temporary structure that has been built solely for the Olympic Games and will stage the judo and wrestling competitions. However, it’s the volleyball players and spectators that will have a hard time focusing – they’ll be going for gold in the open air right beside the iconic Eiffel Tower.

(Image: Getty)

09

ESPLANADE DES INVALIDES

Paris 2024 sports: Archery

Capacity: 8,000

A sprawling green space in the heart of Paris, the Esplanade des Invalides offers a stunning view of the majestic Hôtel des Invalides – a complex of buildings that nod to France’s military history.

During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, this famous site will not only host the archery competition, but it will also serve as the finish line of a marathon.

(Image: Getty)

10

TEAHUPO’O

Paris 2024 sports: Surfing

Capacity: 600

A village on the coast of Tahiti, Teahupo’o is famous for having the most amazing waves for surfing. It might seem unusual that part of the Olympic Games would be held here, but the reason why is actually pretty sound.

Teahupo’o is an island in French Polynesia. And one of Paris 2024’s goals was to spread the Games across France and engage French overseas territories and communities in the Olympics. Mission accomplished.

(Image: Getty)

11

YVES-DU-MANOIR STADIUM

Paris 2024 sports: Hockey

Capacity: 15,000

First opened in 1907, the stadium was the primary arena for the Olympic Games in 1924. It did it all, hosting the athletics, cycling, horse riding, gymnastics, tennis, football, rugby and pentathlon events with ease.

But that’s not the stadium’s only claim to fame. It also hosted the final of the 1938 FIFA World Cup where Italy beat Hungary, winning its second world title.

The Jurassic Park franchise has become iconic in the world of film, and it seems viewers can’t get enough of the fictional world in which dinosaurs almost escape and roam free.

So much so that a seventh movie is being created! Jurassic World 4 is officially in the works – here’s everything to know.

Jurassic Park was a box office hit. (Image: Getty)

Thanks to the multiple A-list actors and the legendary lines, Jurassic Park quickly became a worldwide hit. Following on from the original movie’s success, two more Jurassic Park films were made, as well as three Jurassic World flicks.

Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Chris Pratt, and Bryce Dallas Howard are just a few of the names who have appeared in the franchise – so far.

Now, the story is being continued with another star-studded cast set to hit our screens in July 2025 in Jurassic World 4.

Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali have all been confirmed to be joining the latest instalment in the beloved franchise.

Original cast-member Jeff Goldblum – aka Dr. Ian Malcolm – officially welcomed Scarlett Johansson, 39, to the Jurassic Park family in a touching message in July.

“Dr Johansson, this is Jeff Goldblum,” he began in a video message shown to Johansson during her interview on Today.

“Here’s what I want to say to you. This I know: Scarlett will find a way,” he said, in reference to one of Jurassic Park’s most iconic lines.

“Don’t get eaten, unless you want to. I love you.”

Johansson, who’ll be portraying the lead character in the currently untitled fourth Jurassic World film, was beyond excited after watching the video message.

“Oh my God, I can t believe Jeff said that to me. I think my life is complete now. I can retire,” she said.

The 39-year-old also described the script for the upcoming movie as “so incredible”.

“I am an enormous Jurassic Park fan. It is one of the first movies I remember seeing in theatres,” she told ComicBook.com.

“I remember it so vividly. It was life-changing and mind blowing. I cannot express how excited I am.”

Details remain limited as to what viewers can expect to see in Jurassic World 4, but it’s been confirmed that development is well under way.

It has been reported that the upcoming film will be an entirely new story that’s separate from the previous Jurassic World trilogy.

We’ll be updating this article as new information becomes available, so check back here for more details.

Why is Alec Baldwin in court?

On October 21, 2021, Alec was handed a Colt .45 by Rust assistant director David Halls which was supposedly checked to be safe – which David later testified that he hadn’t checked it properly.

It is alleged that while in rehearsal for a scene, Alec pointed the weapon at the camera when it suddenly fired and a live round hit Halyna Hutchins, wounding director Joel Souza. Joel recovered, while Halyna was pronounced dead hours later.

Alec alleged he did not pull the trigger, but the weapon fired on its own. However, FBI and independent forensic investigators have said the gun couldn’t fire without the trigger being pulled.

In the case, Alec has been charged with involuntary manslaughter (negligent use of a firearm) and involuntary manslaughter (without due caution or circumspection), without bail for more than two and a half years. If found guilty, Alex could go to jail and be charged with a fine.

The trial has been streamed live via many YouTube channels. Day One has concluded, and we suspect there will be eight more days in the trial if the proceeding aligns with the Judge’s schedule.
