The final days of tennis legend Roger Federer’s incredible career are captured in his new documentary

Roger Federer is a name renowned in the sporting world, with the tennis legend one of the greatest to ever play the sport.

The 42-year-old’s retirement in 2022 was emotional for both him and the world, and now the countdown to the end of his tennis career is being showcased to the world in a brand-new documentary.

Federer: Twelve Final Days, a feature-length documentary, was originally a home video that was never intended to be viewed by the public, but the tennis icon is now giving the world a glimpse into the bittersweet ending of his career.

A documentation of an intimate, vulnerable and candid moment in time, the film shows Roger Federer in a new light as he bids farewell to the game and fans that shaped not only his career but also his life.

“I thought until this morning I had emotions in check, but I can feel it coming up,” Federer says in a clip featured in the trailer, ahead of his final tournament match.

Directed by Academy Award-winner Asif Kapadia and Joe Sabia, Twelve Final Days features interviews with legendary tennis players who are both rivals and friends of Federer, including Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

The documentary premiered in select theatres on June 13 and is exclusively available to stream on Prime Video from June 20.

Twelve Final Days is not the only documentary released about Roger Federer – he also has multiple others that chronicle different moments in his career.

His most recent documentary is Roger Federer: A Champion’s Journey which was released in 2023. As the name suggests, this film follows the now-42-year-old’s journey to becoming the number one tennis player in the world, starting from his win at the Junior Wimbledon tournament at just 17 years of age.

A Champion’s Journey features a collection of clips from throughout his sporting career along with a voiceover explaining pinnacle moments in Federer’s story.

The documentary is currently available to stream on Stan.

Additionally, the former world number one features in Strokes of Genius, a documentary that “captures the historic 13-year rivalry” between Federer and fellow tennis icon Rafael Nadal.

The film follows Federer and Nadal’s infamous 2008 Wimbledon championship final which was an extremely close and competitive match where “in the end, the true winner was the sport itself.”
